Gross. This is hideous. I don't want my large-screen desktop to have finger smudges and be at such a ridiculous viewing angle. Touch screen pcs are useless (except for artists and construction workers with blueprints).

Don't get me wrong... it's a nice machine. But for $3k, this should have modern high speed connectivity and ditched the spinning rust drives. Who pays $3k for something with a hybrid drive in it?

Apparently us. Check out souped-up 27" iMacs in the Mac store. Pretty easy to spend well over $3K and end up with a 5400rpm "spinning rust" drive.

I ran exclusively Windows for the last 4 months (waited for the 2016 MBP).

Windows 10 look nice on the surface (pun unintended), but it's still the same messy OS as it ever was, even more so than before since now you have new "touch friendly" settings and all the old system panels that sometimes goes back to Windows 95 days.

Start menu is still a huge mess to manage, control panel is still a huge huge mess where you need to remember weird path to get to the actual controls you want.

It's a kid's room where everything have been shoved under the bed. Looks clean, but good luck when you are looking for something.

Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows XP, same mess.

(Yes I use my windows computer everyday, cause I have to)
don't forget the forced updates that are done when Nanny Microsoft says so
don't forget the data slurping that you can't turn off even with the hosts file
don't forget that updates do all sorts of resetting of your customisation
don't forget that some updates make previously working apps stop working or even just refuse to run
and so many other things that is just so wrong with Windows 10.
With windows 10, you are not in control You may own the hardware but MS owns your software.
My old company gave up on Windows because of things like the above (a small company that was not big enough to get Business options).
They moved 100% to Linux (not Ubuntu)

Windows is the new apple

Bulls*** it is!

I'm not going to pay $3K for

  • outdated ports (no USB-C, not a single one!)
  • underpowered ports (not a single Thunderbolt)
  • outdated screen (less than Apple's 2014 5k)
  • outdated cpu (older Intel CPU's, Microsoft Verge lied to you for the MBP, but they "let it pass" on this one, magically)
  • outdated gpu (2014 generation)
  • underpowered GPU (2GB on the base model)
  • too little memory (max 32GB, this is not a laptop, doesn't need to be LPDDR in any way=
  • weak storage (no full PCI-ex NVMe SSD)

This is not a $1500 or even $2000 computer, it's $3000 starting price!

It's going to be another "vanity product" just like SurfaceBook and SurfacePro.

The Microsoft Verge is being paid by Microsoft, I don't care.

Complaining about Windows 10 is the same as saying you don't know anything about computers.

It has the Dock, but better and with a different name
It has Exposé, but better and with a different name
It has Spaces, but better and with a different name
It has Notification Center, but better and with a different name
It has Siri with a different name
It has up to date APIs, better drivers and better performance

Everything you think is better in Sierra is religious mental conditioning.

I'll complain about Windows and I know a thing or two about it. Your argument is invalid. If you feel the need to test me on this feel free. Yes I'm sure some people have no idea and complain but I'm one of the ones who does complain when I see the SoftwareDistribution folder has 5 GB of updates in it after updating a clean install of Windows 7 SP1, or when a Sysprep argument is causing problems with the ADK in Win-RE.

I'm quite sure that I could hackintosh this, but that wouldn't make sense. What makes this cool is the touch interface and MacOS doesn't have that, so you would in fact be wasting a good proportion of the cost since the touch screen would be a useless feature.

It would still make sense to me, I can be creative in windows and do my day to day stuff in OS X .

I just think it's a great concept, and since I have no issues with windows it's actually a great machine, and good value if I think how much I paid for my MacBook Pro 2016.

Looks pretty tasty ... unlike many, I'm fine with the Windows OS.
My work software runs on windows. And windows it absolutely horrible. That being said, I've come to hate apple so much, thanks to this forum, that I'm abandoning apple and will live with windows. This will be my next computer. After dropping another call with my iPhone 7, the iPhone will also be abandoned. I want to thank the apple haters here for opening my eyes to my by absurd blind faith in apple.

underpowered GPU
As much as I agree with the rest of your statement, I cannot agree with this one. Even on the Mac Pros. Yes Mac seems to keep less overhead on the GPU, but at the same time, their GPUs are very lacking and behind. Even the latest was going with the AMD Polaris which require two to perform the same work as 1 NVidia tier-equivalent.

When I start thinking about the price, I think about the past 10 years with my personally owned Macs.

In the past 10 years and 1 month I have:
Never had to troubleshoot my Mac with a Windows computer
Never had to worry about drivers
Never had an issue with my Mac that I didn't create through unconventional use
Never had any performance issues that forced me to buy a new Mac
Never had to restore a system from a time machine backup except for my latest iMac (late-2012) when I switched from music production to development
Never had any regrets about the Mac I purchased

In this same time frame, I have gone through 4 different Windows computers but not from a problem caused by my own hand.

2 computers were set up for web browsing and small games (kids played minecraft on them) (lasted 2 years)
1 computer was a dev box for Windows and Linux (which boosted performance on the laptop) (lasted 3 years)
1 is a more recent gaming desktop that I purchased last year.

In the most recent gaming computer that I've owned for approximately 11 months I have:
Had to troubleshoot drivers
Performed 3 system restores
Had to troubleshoot RAM
Had to troubleshoot networking (many times)
Still troubleshooting why my mouse is not getting recognized until I unplug it and plug it back in about 6 times in different ports.
Had to troubleshoot display issues. (MSI 980Ti Seahawk)
Had to troubleshoot .net redists.
had to troubleshoot older software designed for Windows 7 (currently Windows 10)
Had to troubleshoot the motherboard.

What I haven't had to troubleshoot using my PC was my Mac. Microsoft can keep their crap, their bloatware preinstalls, and their $200 subsidized operating system and subscription based Office models. I'll hang on to my one time purchase with everything else given free.

Well bloomin' said!

Nice try, you are comparing a laptop to a desktop!

The GPU on this product is from 2013! Full stop. You don't expect garbage bin chips on $3000 computers, if it were Apple, Microsoft Verge were already making articles like this:

Windows 10 verses macOS you are kidding me.

The bigger joke tends to be people who think they are so far apart. If only they tried both.... and not for like a few hours so they can complain about parts they did not understand cause it was not OS X . Keep the dream alive....

I think this looks great - and I'm not even really in the target market, but still actually tempted by it ( after 15 years just with Macs).

To me that really tells me just how uninspiring Apple's current designs are.

I didn't realize you were referring to the Surface book, I wouldn't even relate that to a laptop, I'd relate it to a chromebook or iPad Pro. My bad, I'm with you in that case. Also I was referring to each Apple device as compared to the PC world equivalent. Desktops to desktops, laptops to laptops, etc...

i7-6820HQ? Isn't that a mobile CPU, the one found on the higher end 15-inch new MBP? That qualifies as powerful on a desktop? Even last year's iMac should do better than that.

Yep, it is last years mobile i7.
http://ark.intel.com/products/88970/Intel-Core-i7-6820HQ-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

For reference, it's about 15-20% faster on CPU. And 30-40% slower on iGPU (but has a dGPU to help) than a entry-level 13" MBP

So yeah, I'm not sure where the 'powerful desktop' analogy is coming from.

Tempted ? Nope.

In usual Microsoft style, lacks finesse, spit and polish.
Anyone noticed the glitching colour wheel? I'm afraid I now cannot unsee it.

The glitch begins at 2m19s, and the second occurs at 2m24s. Watch the colour wheel behind the hardware wheel.

Don't know about you but this would annoy the hell out of me!

huh????
That's Apple and Microsoft of the past. MacOS asks me DAILY to either update OS, Flash or Java or a combo platter.
Didn't used to be that way at Apple. Daily updates ( and reboots!! ) are more annoying than removing all ports and features for the most important thing of all ... THINNESS
