I thought Microsoft band 2 was better than the Apple Watch 1 since it had GPS. For a while it was great, but then a design flaw caused the device to break (area where silicone and meets hard internals cracks and opens up). Calling and dealing support took hours of my time with multiple people in the Philippines. Now Microsoft doesn't support the product anymore. I'm not saying that this will happen with the Studio, but I know that with Apple I get products that are well designed and with AppleCare, I do not have to worry, because should an issue arise, I can be on the phone with a native English speaker in 10 minutes or less and service that is the best in the tech industry. That's why I've been a Apple consumer since 1992.

Have you tried Windows 10? I wouldn't go as far as saying it's better than macOS, but between Apple inexplicably removing useful features from OS X and Microsoft adding a lot of useful features between Windows 7 and 10, I don't miss macOS that much.

God I wish it had columns view in Explorer... I've tried a few unofficial Explorer alternatives that have a columns view, but they're all broken in other ways. I have an experimental file browser I've written (cross platform) which has something that blows columns view away... but I don't have the time/resources to actually polish it enough to use it on a daily basis.

Have you tried just running 2 explorers side by side? I am manipulating files all day long, constantly, I'm sure it's hundreds if not more at a sitting. Having 2 explorers side by side I'm pretty happy with the results, and you can always have more than 2. Windows snapping is pretty powerful and allows you to quickly configure your desktop to match your work flow. I could never achieve that kind of work flow in OSx, just that god awful horrific dock bar ruins it for me, but I could never get used to or find logic in their file system either.

I still dont get why macOS works great with no anti virus yet I would never boot W10 or W7 without Norton 3.0
Is it because Windows is on approx 90% of worldwide computers and naughty people have thought there is a bigger market for their naughtiness with Windows.?
Why cant W10 be safe without antivirus (which I have always thought slows the machine down).
Cheers

It is perfectly safe even without antivirus. Have been running Windows without one for a decade now and have had no issues whatsoever. The built in Windows Defender + uBlock + the occasional scan with Malwarebytes (recommended for OSX as well btw) is more than sufficient.

As for system cooling, I'm running water cooled in my Desktop as well, both CPU and GPU coolers (seahawk is standard LC'd) CPU is cooled by a Corsair H110 liquid cooler. My temps stay pretty low, 20c -GPU and 40c - CPU while idle, and jump up to ~56c and ~69c respectively while gaming and OC'd (I've turned off the OC since I experienced issues). I'm not upset with my purchase, I just wish the stability was there.

A custom loop is fun to plan and build :) and upgrading is too damn time consuming , hence its been running fault free 3xtitans. Though finally I've caved and they are being replaced by a titan x pascal for VR purposes .

Though at the same time my iMac 2009 upgraded to raid 0 SSD and max memory is running perfect.....well the replacement is, I fried most parts inside the original gaming on it ....

One, not surprised it's getting praise from sites like the Verge and two, not surprised that makes it a front page story on Mac Rumors. Doesn't seem practical for anyone but designers. So everybody is a graphic designer now?

Wait, what? I don't have any antivirus on either computer except the standard stuff (Windows Defender, GateKeeper). And my W10 boots fine, it sounds like you have a leftover registry setting trying to load up Norton at boot. You may try to uninstall it again or download a complete uninstaller from norton's website if you really don't want it. I run without extra AV simply because I keep a list of websites that I visit in my head that I know are 100% safe. Windows Firewall is already good enough no sense in downloading another 3rd party that might open up a security hole all in itself (link).

Its a bit beyond me to be honest. My brain could not remember which website I've visted today never mind this week!

still this is not an imac competitor but wacom ! if you are not a designer you pay more for nothing useful

Designers are loyal customers. If Apple loses that, they should start shutting down personal computer dept.

The Studio is a nice and a well executed tool for very specific audience (illustrators/architects etc.). But I just don't see why its competing with the iMac. The Studio is not a general purpose computer and for its price its severely under-specced and lacks versatility (e.g. high-speed ports).

I'm a graphic designer and why would I want a massive touch screen? I'm thinking of the work I do for 8 hours a day and it would unbelievably clunky. Like using the mouse with the wrong hand, but worse.

It looks like the kind of the thing you'd see at the mall for people to use to find out where the shops are.

I love the concept and the industrial design, but Windows 10 is still a big mess. Like, why would your OS need two Control Panel apps?

OK, but at least they are making something that seems innovative in a form factor other than a phone. That seems a bit Applesque (of old). Whether they sell 3 or 300K of these, the uncomfortableness within this thread- IMO- seems to be revolving around "Where's Apple on advances like this?" and not "I bet Apple sells more rMBP units than this thing."

In other words- I think- we're hungry for some real ooooh and ahhhhs whiz-bang FROM APPLE... but we seem to be increasingly seeing such stuff from the other guys. The usual pooh-poohing on anything not made by Apple is not working as well as it used to when... we could roll with somebody's seeming big innovation knowing something comparable and probably better would be coming from Apple soon. Now- I think- many of even the most faithful are wondering if much more of anything comparable (meaning Macs) is coming from Apple soon.

We want to be wowed. We want Apple to do the wowing. But the wowing seems to increasingly come from Apple competitors. As Apple's answers to such stuff seem increasingly minimal, it's scary that our favorite tech company seems to be falling more and more behind.

Bunch of personal opinions & speculation from someone who makes their living with Apple hardware of all types.

Agreed with all that bar Apple being my favorite tech company.

What is the best software(s) for your work as a graphic designer?
Also what is your apple line up?

thanks

Innovation.

Nooo, not Apple's style (not any longer).

Nobody needs touch and pen input, according to Apple. A touch bar is sooo much better, right?
That's weird, cause I thought Apple made a device that uses both Touch and optional pen input a year ago...

I used this at the Microsoft Store last week and it's definitely better than a Cintiq, but very similar. Problem is that once you exit your Photoshop or drawing application, your stuck in Windows land with a stylus and trying to use your fingers like a mouse.

The difference is you can tell Apple to stop.
Nope: I get daily reminders to update to iOS10 on my iPhone 5S. I don't want to! I click NO. I delete the update. Next day: "would you like to update to ioS10?"

No I ****** Don't!

How ****** stupid do you think I am?

I said no. I meant no. And I deleted the ***** update.

STOP ***** asking me!

Great computer but it still runs windows, I can't stand windows.
This is so interesting to see this turn around. I was highly considering buying a MacBook back in the day where it was way far ahead of any Windows Laptop and just bootcamp it. Now an actual Microsoft made device is what Apple people want to try and hackintosh. Funny times.

Too lazy to look it up, but there is a company with an Appstore software product that turns an iPad into a Wacom albeit with some issues like lag, etc. This company was started by ex-Apple engineers. Given Apple has nearly $1T (T for trillion) dollars in the bank, could they not purchase this company and get the iPad Pro to be the perfect solution (hint a special cable would be better than wireless). I would buy an iPad Pro if they did this to support my daughters' desire to draw anime characters with our iMac. What the H*** is Apple doing these days??? This solution has been in the market and begging for Apple to optimize it, yet all we seem to get is more emoji, and thinnnnnnnnneeeeeer.

You can't tell Windows not to update automatically, it will eventually go through, with Pro versions you can defer updates up to 6 months but they eventually get installed on that machine. With Enterprise, you can choose to defer upgrades up to 2 years? before they get installed and it allows you to use WSUS to manage them. However, security updates are not deferred on Pro machines so lets face it, you can't. With Apple, I can defer every upgrade indefinitely.
The original poster was complaining about the daily annoyance of updates. Windows 10 (too) lets you avoid this. 6 months seems a reasonable time to brace yourself and be prepared to security updates. Are you telling me that you're avoiding updates on your macs for an undefinited period of time?

Reboot the iMac G4!

Absolutely this. To me that was still the pinnacle of design. For the time that wasn't necessarily such a good thing, as it was the pinnacle of form over function - ESPECIALLY when they had to weigh down the base to hold up the 20" version, that was the BEST design decision ever made, and I've always wanted to have one. Now if they could pull off a repeat with full multitouch, it would be amazing, if not insanely great. Instead they are losing that spot to something very utilitarian by comparison. And I would love one; it's just a bit pricey, and not even looking like being released for NZ at all.
