It uses a forked version of Trident, so it's not entirely new. But it's different enough that it's no longer compatible with old IE. Hence why it's still lurking around in the background for the time being.

I've used it, and you can tell just by looking at how it renders webpages that it's not exactly the same. Font rendering is a helluva lot better, for one.

I'm really glide to hear that.

Really, one of my biggest complaints about Windows in general was font smoothing. Compared to OS X, Windows font is thin and pixelated. Is it still like that in W10?

Does it have tattoos? :D

It has one, but I won't say where.

In all the new universal apps, it is. It's not as bold and soft as OSX fonts, but it is better. Though some of the old stuff that's still around, like File Explorer, still use the old thin font rendering.

I really need to see it on something better than the 1280x800 TN screen I've currently got it on before I can make a real judgment call.

Ok, but how standards compliant is it? That was always the problem with Internet Explorer and Microsoft's authoring tools.

Windows management in OS X is terrible compared to Windows. OS X requires at least two clicks for every action that only requires one in Windows. Apple needs to hire a UX expert to make OS X more efficient and user friendly. And allow users to customize the interface with color! Black and white is boring.

I would honestly not be using OS X as my primary OS if it wasn't for HyperDock and Bartender.

Microsoft seems to be the real innovator these days. The minimalist Metro design and touch friendly apps are very appealing.

I really like the Windows Phone OS on my Lumia 930. However, the Lumia 930 itself came with a defective microphone that affected tons of users. I sent it to the assistance and it came back with a dent. Now I'm stuck between returning it to another repair or live with that.

Apart from that, the high dynamic range microphones are awesome when in working condition.

I use both Windows and OS X and don't understand what you said. I find using Windows file management more annoying. Guess it's what you are used to... maybe you don't really know how to use OS X finder.

Having experienced so much grief with using windows in the past I'm now so strongly biased towards the company I'm preconditioned to instantly feel at best indifferent to its products and services.

I like the way it looks so far. Looks cool and clean, but as a web designer and developer, I just hope they create a browser that is actually compliant for once. Having everything I create work in all browsers EXCEPT IE is one huge pain in my . . . . There is always a lot of code that I have to always wrangle, massage and tweak just to work in IE. The bane of web coders everywhere.

They aren't dying, though that market has shrunk ...

MS is positioning itself to cater to just that audience. They don't have anything to worry about.

Every company has something to worry about - certainly Microsoft does! I sure hope they don't have your attitude!

Now that's true. Cockiness goeth before the stumble. It's the reason why MS didn't do anything worth half a damn for a full decade, and why Apple and Google are now eating their lunch in some sectors.

But on that same note, the sword of Damocles isn't exactly dangling precariously over their heads, held up by the barest strand of hair. They're not longer 100% assured of absolute market dominance like they once were, but they're not in dire straits, either.

...and that's the way it should be.

It's install footprint? I think it's down to under 10GB now... Or do you mean memory? RAM's cheap if you aren't maxed out :p I guess we have different things to look forward to in the next version.

I had a PC with equivalent specs to my Mac: my Mac can be slow at times and the PC (running windows 8) was always fast. Also, the PC booted so quickly it was more like waking it from standby. These would be nice. Though I'm sure when I switch to an SSD I'll see an improvement anyway :)

Using a MacBook, I swipe into mission control and click the window I want, or click an icon on the dock. When do you find yourself two clicks away where it's one on windows?

Internet Explorer was a poor name choice, in that it sounds too much like Windows Explorer (because after all, it only runs on Windows). In our minds, we only hear the word Explorer, because we think "of course it runs on Windows." So people have trouble hearing you correctly when you say "Windows Explorer" - it can be challenging in support scenarios.

But Explorer itself is a good name - especially when it refers to the internet. They're going to loose all that name-recognition value that the world's most-used browser has built up over the years. It's not like it's been bad recently - the last few versions have actually been quite good.

Edge is starting all over. It means nothing, and is probably the worst name of any popular browser I can think of.

Microsoft and Apple are both loosing much of their direction and common sense. It's probably because the people in charge don't care enough. They want to make money, but they're not passionately involved.

Nah. Sorry. Everything you said there is useless drivel.

No, but it does explain what people want. Their biggest profit ever for Q1 2015 is certainly not prove of stupidness as you are saying.

As can be clearly seen from the current earnings report (https://www.macrumors.com/2015/04/27/apple-q2-2015-earnings/) the monetary logic dictates that apple is ...well... the iphone company and the rest of the business is just a non essential sideshow.

I think what he was reffering to is that Apple has the chance of gaining much more traction in the other areas if they cater more towards a wholesome experience.

So far Apple is great within it's own boundaries (keeping sync between own devices and own applications only) but the current Microsoft approach is to extend this to all Windows applications (Desktop, Laptop, Tablet and Phone being included) and to a certain degree even multiplatform. If they get it right, which may or may not happen, that could be a pretty awesome experience.

It looks really good. Man, I'm really tempted to get a Surface 3 and run Windows 10 on it...
Maybe you should wait for the Surface 4 which supposably will launch alongside Windows 10 :)

This is funny, because 80% of the computers in the world still use Windows 95/98/2000. I think the US Government still uses floppy disks.
Very odd number there...maybe check this sometime:

I feel just the same than you, having used both OSes or years.

In fact, I wrote a long post about where Windows Explorer lacks, but Mac Rumors really has too short login time and all of the work was lost. Please add some more minutes to that login time, dear operators. Non native speakers need more time.

I hope it is really fluid, lag-less and bloat-less this time. But think I'd better stand disappointed.
