I got plenty of PMs too. But I don't really care about any pissing content about it. We clearly disagree on many subjects. Oh.. and THANK YOU so much for pointing out your signature. Because clearly I didn't notice it in every post. (LTD has called himself on more than one occasion a fanboy). You obviously don't have the history on that - so it's "excusable." But the intimation that I'm a troll because I call LTD what he, himself has admitted to - that just laughable. And if you did read my posts (which again - it's obvious you don't and just want to throw an attack in) you'd see that I explained quite clearly my "beef" with his opinion.

Finally - You are bitter. It's obvious by the way you swooped in and (lamely) "attacked" me out of the blue adding no insight into the discussion but rather just a snooze of an attack.

I don't think I'll be engaging you in any further conversation where I can help it. It's quite unproductive.

A swoop in snooze attack, I like that one. Can I use that line? LMAO

I don't know if I hate or love this thread. It's full of junk, but that same junk makes me think Microsoft has done a lot of things right with this OS. Stay classy MacRumors.

The OS actually looks pretty slick. I think they'll grab a little slice of the market if they make the right moves. Nowhere near the leaders, but a slice nonetheless.

Windows 7 is dead when Mac OS X on my iMac allows me to discover other computers in the network.

What the ? Turn off the software firewalls, because I have 0 problems with that, they show up in the Finder under Shared with no problem. Don't blame OS X for something that's wrong in your setup.

I think a few of us have the same problem on this forum. The problem with some posters (not saying HLDan is one of them, but he is defending the type of poster I'm about to talk about now) is that their argument is pitch black and polarised. The world is black and white to them. If you come to them with a shade of grey on something, they see you as the blinding white to their pitch black. Thus you become an Apple hater, troll, "you don't even own Apple products", "Go back to your nokia/kodak/motorola/android/Microsoft/insert any apple competitor/insert any company suing apple forum". The more you post trying to bring logic to the discussion, the more you end up having to go against Apple and the more you sound like a hater/basher instead of an Apple user.

Seriously makes it hard to enjoy MacRumors for some of us Apple users that are not "true believers" in everything Apple does.

Very eloquently put. Kudos

This is Mac Rumors, why are we putting news about Microsoft?

Because it gives posters a chance to entertain themselves by posting about how ludicrous a Microsoft story is on these forums.

That and Microsoft is specifically targeting a market that Apple competes in. Duh.

I agree with another poster - not sure if I love or hate this thread as so much flaming / bashing.

What MS has done with this new group of phones is interesting and may have been their only option to distinguish themselves in this market. What just a few minutes on their website has shown me is that they have not created anything that will compete with the iPhone. Call me a fanboy if you wish, but IMHO the new interface, while interesting, sucks. It is ugly and non-intuitive. Even their own materials say something like "you only get to appreciate it after using it for a while" which is exactly NOT what you want in a product that will be marketed to someone standing for 10 minutes in a cell phone store deciding between phones.

I am sure that you can configure things so that these tiles show you information beyond the "badges" that appear over icons on the iPhone but that configuration process is likely more than most people want to bother with. Most just want something intuitive with basically no learning curve that works. With Apple products there are "under the hood" things you can do if you wish but they are not needed for basic operations - things like grouping apps together, etc. I suspect that the learning curve along with the ugly UI will limit appeal for the Window 7 phone. Anyone even remember the "Kin"?

Though after looking at this I suspect it will go down in flames over the next few months, I am very glad that other companies are at least pushing the envelope - even false starts like this one from Microsoft keep Apple innovating!

I'd counter with the fact that if iPhones and Mac computers were so intuitive and easy to learn as people keep praising - then Apple would have no need for educational classes and genius appointments for people to learn how to use basic functions on their phone. It's clever marketing messaging to insist "it just works." EVERYTHING has a learning curve. If you had never used an iPhone or saw an iPhone and started to use one of these phones (conjecture) you could very easily say the same in reverse. It's comfortable to stick with the status quo. That doesn't mean it's easier from the ground up.

This is Mac Rumors, why are we putting news about Microsoft?

Because with the Epic failures of Internet Explorer 6, Windows Vista, the Microsoft Zune, the Microsoft Kin, and the Microsoft Courier tablet, and with Apple now being worth almost 60 Billion more than Microsoft, it is sink or swim time for Microsoft.

So it is fascinating to ponder what is going to happen with the Window 7 Phone(s)! It is either going to be a really really big success or a really really big failure. Microsoft is at the tipping point!

Like some of the concepts and idea's, just as I love several Android features but as for the Win 7 OS I simply don't care for the presentation of it. I think its rather ugly, then again I guess you can only skin a cat so many ways.

As someone that gets easily bored with gadgets I'll be interested to check out a Win 7 phone and get a hands on feel for it.

Worse case this is just another Kin debacle.

Why the extremes why must it be an extreme success or failure? Couldn't it just be successful or not successful?

Ballmer's head is on the line with that one. To that extent, maybe it would be a blessing for MSFT that Windows Phone 7 fails miserably.

I was thinking the same thing.
I still wouldn't mind having something more than the date/time on my iPhone lock screen (without jailbreaking). I don't see why that is a big deal for apple to allow.

yeah I can imagine this will kill the battery in no time flat especially high rez graphics. Those damn jailbrakers have caused me enough trouble with multitasking that I now have to manage because everything stays open now.

I liked when only the apple apps ran in the background everything running sucks my power dry.

Too many comments from people who appear to be too narrow-minded to consider that M$ might be able to make a decent phone and OS. Pitiful!

Such competition might lower the prices paid for the iPhone and/or the data plans. As well, it might make phones available on more than one or two carriers.

Because Microsoft has had a series of big failures and strategic missteps under Ballmer's reign. Microsoft is at the tipping point. Mediocre wont cut it. Think about it. Apple is worth 60 Billion more than Microsoft. Microsoft's stock holders are almost at wits end with Ballmer! Wall Street is wondering if Microsoft can pull off any new product area successes? Mediocre is for companies that don't know how to play in the big leagues?

The way I see it, as long as I can install/uninstall homescreen items, themes, apps, plugins, hacks, addons, modules whatever - it'll go me. The iphone has Apps. Thats it. You cant have homescreen 'widgets' or extras...its very limiting being confined to an app and a popup box.

This is where I think android hits the nail on the head - apps can run on the homescreen, you can download widgets, etc. Speed isn't an issue as you can close stuff whenever you like (something Apple only just added) and you can make your phone as bogged down, or as slick as you like. Freedom of choice is power. Restricting people to what 1 guy wants is dictatorship.

Forcing a non tech person to manage their phone for running apps is stupid. I hate it and I'm a tech guy. I love that I didn't have to remember what was running. And the apple apps froze where they were when you closed them. Much better than needing to manager apps.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8B117)

Makes no difference what MS does at this point, an they've done nothing compelling. If it's isn't anything earth-shattering it'll just be more flotsam and jetsam in Apple and Google's wake.

This is a misconception.

Apple created the iPhone with no competition (at least none that was even remotely challenging.)

yes the THOUSANDS of models of smartphones listed on this site never sold at all, 1613 models to be exact

http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdachooser (i did a search from 2000-2008)

Same for the iPad.

Apple created the competition.

and of course the millions of netbooks that sold dont matter either, no competition means that everyone is buying an iPad over a netbook and everyone else is out of business. sure...

Now look at these products today. Apple needs no competition to innovate, just a whole lot of bad attempts by others they can obliterate almost overnight.

Look at the iPad competition. What creativity??

yeah its a slow POS that only fanboys and the ignorant sheep buy

your posts are the dumbest out of all of MR, you really need to open your eyes to whats ACTUALLY out there rather than believing what apple tells you

LOL I love Apple but you all sound like a huge bunch of fanboys in here!

I have been saying for a long time how STUPID Steve Ballmer is and that he should have been fired years ago, maybe it will happen soon finally.

However, even though Microsoft is late in the game you can't dismiss everything they have done. Apple didn't have copy & paste either for 2 years. Microsoft will add this in an update early next year, but obviously they have had to prioritize in order to get WP7 to market for the holidays.

They do have a few things going for them, such as Xbox Live integration, and Office integration. Those are two decent pieces of leverage even amongst tough competition. They are also FINALLLLLY beginning to bring their ecosystem together in one cohesive product.

Point being, I don't personally care for it, and I think the Metro UI is ugly, but I will give them credit for the things they did do. The live hubs concept is pretty cool.

I am interested to see if they can get traction and how the market will settle out with the main players. Interesting times! It is good that this time around in the mobile computing revolution we will have multiple players and not a monopoly! So be thankful people!

P.S. I am also interested to see what HP does with Web OS next year!

Is this a real Microsoft commercial or is this a joke?

Whoever said that Microsoft should fire their Ad agency might be correct if this is actually a real Microsoft Windows 7 Phone commercial. Or maybe since I do not play that many games I do not get the point?
