The irony is it's an issue with el capt!
Yep. If an issue has anything to do with an Apple product, it's always Apple's fault.

I wish people would stop trying to analyze issues and just blindly blame Apple. Life would be so much easier!

Additionally, we're already collectively getting a bit "short-changed" with Office 2016, in the sense that Microsoft is trying to unify the iOS codebase with the OS X codebase this time around. You're not paying for them to develop a new OS X app. You're paying for them to port over what they already wrote for iOS so it works on the Mac.

I believe all the Microsoft Office apps share the same engine code. The work is in the UI, and ensuring the engine works well on each platform.

I can't really see Microsoft perfecting the Office engine on PowerPC and iOS, and then try to port it BACK to x86 and OS X.

I've been using office since beta on my Mac and was lucky because I didn't had many crashes.
And yes I use it extensively, I link to a SQL and analyse data.

Lync 2011 on the other hand crashes very frequently.

I hope Microsofts reign on general office apps is soon over. But I doubt it... I mean apple could have released a good upgrade to their iwork apps a long time ago. But they never did, I bet they have some secret gentlemen's agreement going on for 'saving ' apples ass in the nineties

Well good new/bad news.

Lync has been abandoned as far as the new "Skype for Business" is concerned. Bad news is they are only just working on a replacement. Its should only be a year or more away and probably 3 years before it is stable.

Yeesh. This is the first time I haven't updated on release day, and it sounds like it was a good decision.

Whats the use of releasing a beta if there are major hurdles to fix after the public release?

The issue is not about updating to El Capitan or not. It has to do with updating to Office 2016 or not.

I am using Office 2011 with El Capitan, and I am having no problem.

Two things:

1. developers can't really start debugging till the GM is released as each BETA build might break a fix that someone spent all day on so it's kinda pointless. Also, I believe the GM was out for like 1.5 week so not much time to fix bugs.

2. Office 2016 was just released a few weeks ago and has it's own bugs that need fixing. I don't think the office team needed a new OS to introduce even more bugs at this point.

Please note that my views and opinions do not officially represent Microsoft. I partake in this forum as I appreciate the community.
A voice of reason finally.

Good for Microsoft? They’ve known about these issues since the very first El Capitan beta. That they couldn’t be bothered to fix things until after the official release is abominable.
I really don't know how to respond to this without this dwindling into a contest of who has urinating prowess, but I just like that they've acknowledged the issues and have said that they're working on a fix. I do have my reservations about Microsoft (especially Excel not having stock look-ups in the Mac version), but to castigate them for not fixing stuff makes me look at other options (Actually, Office works on my Macs without these issues), like OpenOffice, Numbers, or other options.

Voting with your feet is the best way to express dissatisfaction.

I know several outfits that have been using Libre Office and Open Office for a few years just to avoid this crap. Internally, they save in ODT format and export to MS Office 95 as needed. Eventually these office suite file formats will be as standard as TCP/IP and format data exchanges more fluid.

I certainly hope so.
Tho I'm afraid most (local) business are very...very conservative.

I work at a top 50 worldwide construction company, and ms office is just THE standard for reporting, analysing and everything else, it's sad and frightening. And this is not a special company, a lot of them do it and this will change only very slowly.

Yep, should surely be fixed by SP3.
Remember though that Apple have had the EL Capitan OS since alpha, never mind beta and they haven’t addresed all the issues……..
greed, but since 1984 every OS has had it's issues.

It's just not possible to foresee all the things people do with their apps (From using outdated to "customized". And, not every developer adheres to Apple's guidelines thinking they have a better mousetrap or taking shortcuts.

Plus, security issues have made any OS more complex.

If MS Office wasn't an essential app not working properly, nobody would make a big deal about it.

I feel like I am using win95 or win98 when I use mac office 2011 or 2016.

Well good new/bad news.

That entire lync becomes 'skype for business' was so confusing also!
I thought I could log in with my business account on a regular Skype...haha

I assume the iOS version will be first. and as you said maybe a decent version in a couple of years :D

I am still on Yosemite with Office 2011. Over the past year Office 2011 has been less and less stable, getting worse with each update (seemingly) to either Office or the OS. In particular, slide show mode in PowerPoint crashes fairly often. I often give full-day seminars and can now expect 4-5 crashes in PowerPoint each day.

Last year they started trying to sell Office 365 for the Mac, which was pretty comical given that they hadn't updated the product apart from security fixes in over 3 years. Now that 2016 is out, I am faced with the question of whether to purchase a single license or get the subscription. If any other office-type software could actually produce and consume MS Office format files for interchange with everybody else in the world, I would use it. But I have tried OpenOffice and I have tried the iWork suite, and both are basically crap. Office, being the de facto standard, is an evil I have to live with.

The killer for me is that One Drive for Business is officially completely incompatible with 10.11. If they don't come up with a patch soon I'll have to install Yosemite or Mavericks. Never liked Yosemite, El Capitan is faster but still buggy. I had no idea it was such a major upgrade.
I had to trash the One Drive for Business client and (try to) work with the web app. I did see that they just announced a new trial client on the way that you can sign up for here:
https://preview.onedrive.com/sync

Hoping to hear something soon.

Apps like Bartender are advising people to disable SIP, install their app and run it, then enable SIP. It's a bit crazy.
Bartender 2 has just been released, it's fully compatible with OS X El Capitan and does not need the below steps performed. If you own Bartender 1, you can upgrade to Bartender 2 and save 50% on the full price!

Bartender 2
13,85 €

I think some are missing the point. It's fine for developers to have the time to get the Apps and Packages ready to present to the world but why put something out that obviously isn't ready and can't even sustain basic operability?

I don't think anyone is pointing a finger "You..yea you, get it done and get it done now!" Why rush to failure? Why not a simple statement, "While we understand you're patiently waiting to use our wonderful MS Office 2016, we want to ensure you have the best experience as possible. Please allow just a little more of your time and we'll have you up and running."

Just my thought of reason.

This version will not let you customize the ribbon or the toolbar. That's a deal breaker for me. Hopefully MS will address this. In the meantime, I had to go back to Office 2011.

What are you talking about? El Capitan is fine. If Microsoft wants to make their software available for Mac users, then they need to prepare their apps for under the hood changes that the new OS X presents.

Works fine with other versions of OS X, so the issue is changes at the OS level as you say.
How many betas did Apple go through? So given MS can only fully test once it goes GM they will clearly need time to correct anything apple have changed..

Par for MS....1 step forward and 2 steps back. But we always pat them on the back anyway and say..."good boy, now roll over...".
