Decent? I would fail a uni student for an add like that. It didn't make any sense at all. Glad you corrected youself because it would have not looked good for you to say it was descent.

What happens when you put two losers together to make an add. You get shyt. Wasn't even funny, but then Seinfeld was never that funny.

This allegedly induces us all to "talk" about Microsoft, thereby developing "brand awareness." This tactic surely (sorely) seems to have worked brilliantly with the marketing of their Zune. Since we're all talking about how utterly lame this advertisement is, the ensuing heated discussions are supposedly doing wonders to elevate MS's image, as this event has become a poignant topic of conversation, albeit, in a harshly negative light. Perhaps MS's image will benefit from this vast wave of ridicule in a similar fashion to the way Paris Hilton's image has withered into oblivion in the wake of all of her negative hype. At least MS has been fairly consistent with its endeavors: IE, Zune, Mojave, WMA, PlaysForSure, MSN Search, Web(MSN)TV, CarPoint, MSFDC bill presentment and payment service, LinkExchange Banner Network, HomeAdvisor home buying service, Passport Express Purchase online shopping service, Electronic Wallet, MoneyCentral, Longhorn, just to name a few. So... let's all keep talking here, as MS will be needing more of an image boost now than ever before. Let the resurrection of The Social begin!

humanizing Bill Gates

it makes Bill act/look like a human being and regular guy. No small trick

I found it amusing. I am also a regular Seinfeld viewer.

I don't get the Vista connection but suspect it will get clearer in the future

Maybe I'm missing something, but surely that's the worst advert of any kind, of all time, ever?

Like I said, maybe I don't 'get it'.

Dismal.

Worst ever? Far from it. It's not good, but it's not that horrible. And no, I don't think the problem is that you don't get it, and I'm sure there are more connected ads that will begin to make more sense, but it's still not a good ad. It's not even close to being the worst though.

errr.... maybe the humour is a bit 'high brow' but i liked it, it was funny and dry in the way comedy is going these days, in the UK anyway.

Very good overall i reckon, if anything much better than the Mitchell and Webb mac ones, i had never seen such pompous advertising in my life.

i guess the kind of people who dont get it are the kind of people who probably thought Russel Brand was rubbish at the VMA's.
:)

Hey, did you notice this topic has the most replies on the front page of an Apple fan site? Seems to have worked.

And there's probably much more anticipation of the next ad in the Microsoft series than there is about the next "Get a Mac" or Ipod ad...

The Seinfeld ad is extremely effective, most will agree.

Cmmon

Everyone whos saying "how is that gonna make me buy windows, vista blabla" are u a bit slow? In the us u might still be used to glossy lame commericals with some dude speaking in hyperspeed about the product and showing only pictures of the product... but at least the rest of the world is so fed up with that corporate ******** that thoose kind of commercials dont work no more, thats why nowadays stuff are made more subtle, not honking merc but setting a tone, creating an aura etc. all theese litle signals and tricks they use to familiarize u to a product and create a sense of liking it whitout trying to SELL, SELL it. Thats what they are doing and it might work with this ad. Ofcourse not on us people cause we are in varying stages of fanboyism but on regular ppl with lives instead of forums. That beeing said, vista is a crapy product and microsoft is in many ways the devil in the sense that they dont listen to consumers blabla, although to be fair, they also have a very different targetgroup to cater to, that beeing a rather lame targetgroup = rather lame products.

Seinfeld is ok, he's a bit old and he shoot himself in the foot with the bee movie= not the fresh air microsoft needs. Bill is a god and played his part in the ad well, although his rep is such that its easy to live up to. Bill and Stephen hawkings dont realy have to do or say much to be ****ing untouchable. Much like Steve.

We're witnessing the inevitable decline and death of Microsoft, you bet we can't wait for the next ad!

Best buy and Cirucit city geeks

Rumor has it that Microsoft is spending $300 Million to turn the tide. Well they plan on sending Microsoft Experts (17 year old Gamers) to help sell Vista or mislead old women and men to buying a computer with on of the many Vista titles that they won't know how to use or even need. Even if you wanted to talk to these so called Experts they won't be around half the time. And when you do kinda mention Mac or Apple, they will get this look and then tell you how you need Microsoft because you use them at work. This is going to be really interesting after Apple rolls out Snow Leopard.

The Same "Bling" Music, Attempting the Same "Cool" as Apple Ads -- But No Connect

Does MS have to copy EVERYTHING Apple does, including its advertising? And like all MS knock-offs of Apple product, this one is inferior in every way. Jerry Sinefeld is not Justin Long, not even close. This is just as lame as the "Mojave Experiment" ads. Who's brilliant idea was it to make an ad that advertises the fact that people think your product sucks? MS should just stay satisfied with its enterprise dominance. Isn't that enough?

am i the only 22-year-old left, who knows seinfeld and thinks this may be the most mindblowing statement? i mean its like saying "jack nicholson is no ryan seacrest, not even close.". once again, i cant believe with a set of apple products im "part of that crowd".

Personally I'd take Seinfeld to Justin Long any day. But I'd take John Hodgman over the two. He's the superior funnyman.

Huh?

Most of the posters are saying "dumb", "I don't get it", "worst ad ever", "WTF", "FAIL", ...

And you're saying that it's a copy of Apple? I haven't noticed that the "Get a Mac" ads were staged at indoor shopping malls and their parking lots.

That's for sure - Justin looks great in a bathing suit, Seinfeld not so much. But then again, Justin's a gay porn star in a movie, not Jerry.

I think he means Microsoft is trying to be casual and "hip", like the perceived Apple.

Oh, so any casual ad is a copy of Apple? That's two-thirds of the spots.

I find it very unlikely that future ads will feature Bill and Jerry doing standup comedy against a white screen.

I think that claims of "copying" are premature - so far there's only one scene-setting teaser ad.

Apples all about creativity. They don't has been cool guys. Apples approach-use Ryan Seacrest-that would be smooth advertising-Just Like An Apple! Instead of the give-me-five Seinfeld.

Rubbish. Apple are all about releasing the same set of products with slightly better specifications and new cases.

Don't kid yourself.

Try telling that to all the creative pro's...you might convince a few YouTubers' but that's as far as you'll get!Apple have succesfully created very intuitive and complex programs and that's worth it's wait in gold to us.

However, the specs of the iPhone and iPod Touch seem to have more than slightly exceeded the specs of the previous iPods. Furthermore, most would prefer gradual refinements of already fine products with slightly better specs, innovation, improvements on implementation, and functionality to product releases laden with more obstacles, complications, convolution in terms of navigation, and regression in terms of response and speed.

LOL, are you not old enough to have been able to notice how Apple releases products?

a) they come out with a crippled product

b) they update the specs a little

c) they uncripple the stuff a little, if you're lucky

d) they update the specs a little more.

P.S. it's obvious you're not one of those "creative pros" you talk about. It's amazing they chose you to be their spokesman.

It was kind of interesting watching the latest Apple "King PC" ad then a few minutes later the "Shoe Bill" ad--gotta love football season. At least I know what they were trying to sell in the Apple ad.

Tosser - M. Hands is just rattling people's chains here.

He's just flaming people, and intentionally using terribly written posts to do it.

He'll disappear on his own if we stop feeding him...

I'm an art photographer and have exhibited widely in different countries in galleries where I am represented on a commission basis, which if your not familiar with the term means that I am an established artist. Whilst most of my work is printed on Ilfochrome paper I still use iPhoto and Aperture sometimes.
