I'm not sure I agree, because yes, the Seinfeld ads got attention, but did they get attention outside the "computer nerd/enthusiast crowd"?

Oh yes. EVERYONE is talking about them, and they've been all over the news from here to Australia, where they didn't even air.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Better this time, but I'm not crazy over them.

Hey, I'm currently a PC, and I'm miserable! lol

Why such the hate?

Why does you guys just hate the Pc?

i am very annoyed people just putting down on vista and they haven't used it, or haven't used sp1. to be honest i never got the Bsod since windows 98

you guys have to cope because apple is just a brand like Hp, Compaq,Dell ect, the only difference is the os .... i cant see the difference between windows and mac os x,,, the only difference is its got a dock and finder ,,,,

Regards

attack apple

Not nearly as lame as Apple's stupid "I'm a PC" commercials. At least Microsoft didn't blatantly attack Apple like Apple does to Microsoft.

what would microsoft attack apple for? "i'm a mac, and i have all of windows' features years before windows' does. and their commercials, too."

We don't hate the PC. I use Windows on my Mac to play games.

We just prefer OS X and the hardware. Both OS's are quite different when you use them for any length of time and OS X is more than the dock and the finder.

I used to use Vista, but whilst it looked nice, it just felt like an updated version of XP.

Perhaps people aren't keen on MS because they don't innovate in the same way and seem quite a stubborn company.

There are more differences than only that. Apple always tweaks it's computer. So there are no same computers as apple's. (they change the hardware a bit etc). Than the os. Mac os x is more stable. It's much more user friendly, you don't need to install drivers (which I found very irritating on windows xp) If something freezes it's often only that program (instead of your entire computer), there are no viruses etc etc. So there are a lot of differences.

i have used windows vista. i've gotten BSOD on every windows from 3.1 to vista, and each version gets worse. not to mention that microsoft doesn't offer anything that mac didn't offer for years.
"hey, let's put 'widgets' on windows. except, lets call them 'gadgets'"
and really, do we really need an OS that uses a quarter-gig of RAM just to look at the desktop?

This was just too much to relate to. Moreover it was quite primitive actually.
Just a plain reference to the fact that everyone, everywhere either owns or can own a PC. Blah. I have a beard? Seriously!
They just thought - if we can't make people understand Seinfeld, let's make something so obvious it's just going to suck.

(1) There is no reason to assume these people actually use PCs. This is a piece of advertising, they've been paid to say what they say. Rarely does the brand of computer you use present a moral challenge to earning money. Even (or especially) for celebs.

(2) The Mac and PC ads by Apple do actually pinpoint features of the software and hardware. As usual these Microsoft ones don't tell us anything about these things.

(3) It seems a bit desperate and also like they've actually felt wounded by Apple. Something they probably shouldn't admit and comes across as negative.

Wow.

As a campaign, I think this will be quite effective in shifting the "nerdy PC" perception, and deflecting the attacks that have been coming at MS/Windows users from Apple for the last couple of years.

Let's face it, Apple can't possibly continue on the same lines now. Well done Microsoft, you just deflected Apple's crude stereotypes in a clever and effective way, simply by (a) acknowledging them, and (b) throwing it back in Apple's face. I think it works well. Now Apple... you have to come back with something even more effective. My advice? Don't resort to stereotypes in the first place. Just show your strengths - OSX and innovative design.

At least the Get A Mac ads listed some of the features of a Mac. This tells me that a PC sells fish, has a beard, is scared, blah blah blah. Yeah.

And I don't think they should have brought politics into the mix either.

Now that I liked.
Good going MS.

But on the flip side it seems they can only make a good advert if they rip off Apple's ad? Heh.
But it still is good. Much better than the first batch.

Did you know you can have both?

I don't know whay it has to be one thing or the other... I didn't sign any exclusivity contract when I bought my Mac. Personally, I have both Mac and PC. I know Mac is superior and more reliable for certain things: that's why I use it for important things like working with it. But you can get a cheap PC (there are no cheap Macs, face it) to use for entertainment. They're more versatile, you can play more games, you can always find that piece of software or codec you need for your specific task (not always true for Mac), and you have literally hundreds of different configurations out there to choose from according to your needs or your budget, which again does not apply to Mac.
