I'm a PC, but everything everyone is doing in these ads can be done with any type of computer.

Did you notice that not one of those folks say that Windows is the best (fastest, easiest, most convenient, most funnest) (I know, I know) way to do stuff?

So, I guess the story line here is: everyone uses PC's. I think that everyone already knows that everyone uses PC's. I want to know WHY I should use a PC, especially since my last excursion into the world of windows was a complete disaster (lasting several years...)

I liked the ad, but it felt to me like PC was running for president. I think it's funny that the company that dominates the market feels intimidated and is so clearly insecure that they can't even be creative enough to come up with their own original ideas.

I have enjoyed the "I'm a Mac" campaign but they're getting a little silly now. They seem to be missing the mark with me lately.

The commercial begs a few questions.

Through out the commercial, it begs the question, is someone (who?) trying to sell or tell its audience something about the personal computer (PC).

Then at the end of the commercial, a small Microsoft's Windows logo appears. Ah, it's something about Microsoft (or Windows). So now it begs the question, was Microsoft telling it's audience that a personal computer is Windows, or was Microsoft generously promoting the PC for all personal computer makers including Apple whose computer can run Windows and Mac OS X?

By the way, applenewbie, that's a funny quote! I wonder if Jobs quoted Amelio to make a point about something – you got to first fix the hole in the ship before you can point it in the right direction. A sinking ship can't travel far even if it's pointed in the right direction!

:D

Actually - the more I think about this ad, the worse it gets:

I'm a pc - at work (education). The University is a dell/ms colony and does not support mac at all. You have to use pc's, no choice is possible.

Last week, the Uni IT people threw the latest Microsoft office on our machines, creating a wave of confusion and frustration to just about every member of staff (at what is probably the busiest period of the year). Even I was surprised with the mess, because the latest version of office on the mac is quite neat. A few others were literally in tears, and not because they missed the previous version

I'll have to start carrying my macbook at work on a regular basis to actually do some work.

hmmm

At least these commercials have a point.

I own PCs and I prefer doing most of my computing on my Macs. That would have been my response.

Anyways, the only thing I've got from these commercials, is that MS lacks a sense of humor and their idea of what's cool is out of date.

<]=)

i agree they are better, but oh so desperate and copying, and it's really not original, cool, and funkeh.

meh.

thats all i can say, not "WOW' or "holy shizzle!"

no. Just a Meh. Doesn't make me want to buy MS windows. Just introduces the public to what uncreative **** they are buying. I think it's bad, they should of came back with a different sort of come back of their OWN! Not copying someone elses campaign to get your own back. too desperate.

overview:

Just introduces the fact that microsoft copy apple.

New Ad

Mac: Why so blue today PC?
PC: Well Mac, without my walls my windows crashed again.
Mac: Apples have never needed walls, they grow best outside
PC: (holding himself) Was that a leopard, Im scared being outside my walls.

The ads, to me, seem short on substance. I can't think of a global company that doesn't have a diverse customer base, so showing the customers isn't the same as making the case for the usability and desirability of your products. While the Mac ads have been a bit aggressive against Vista of late, there were several that outlined the inherent functionality of OS X versus the need for additional software with Windows XP and Vista. I don't know that the "stereotyping" of the PC nerd and the Mac dude was so much the point as it was a simplified conveyance for the message.

I'M A PEPPER! (You can be a PEPPER too!) :D

LOL...

Anybody else find this an ironic message of how Microsoft feels threatened by Apple's recent success?

Your pics below is my fav...

At work, I'm a PC. When I got this job, my laptop arrived, DELL written on the box - I WAS TERRIFIED....

One screen (original one turned yellow) and 3 Windows repairs later, I still am...

but I don't expect people to rush out and buy a Mac just because they saw a cool TV ad either.

Ahh... but people are sheep.

Remember when PC gaming and modding was all the rage for the last decade? The "cool kids", or so they thought of themselves, were the ones putting liquid cooled towers together with LED and neon lights in them and boast about how long it took them to make the tower and what parts were in them. And then they would try to impress all their friends with the newest game pad or joystick they just bought for $400 to play ONE game with.

In regards to another post someone else had and I'm too lazy to go back and quote him.... people do need to label themselves to one extent or another.

I AM a Mac. No doubt about it. I find pleasure in everything Apple releases and I find even more pleasure in joining with everyone on here speculating about what Apple could release in the coming months.

A well thought out campaign, we are at step 2

Crispin porter has planned this campaign quite well.

Step 1. Do something that makes little sense, and spend tons of money doing it. Generate Hype. Flood the market with press-releases that mention big names and big money. Hence the ridiculous ads about nothing starring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill. It worked, quite a bit of hype was generated. The completely embarrassing and difficult to watch snippets of Bill Gates hip shaking and robot dance did the trick.

Step 2. Now that you have the hype and interest, attack. The current ads that just aired are the meat of this campaign. Whereas, the first round of ads made little sense, the 2nd wave is quite effective. Crispin and MS are focusing on the derogatory nature of the Apple ads. I always was worried about the negative aspect of the "I'm a PC" ads and I think Apple should have phased it out while they were ahead. Ford shouldn't make a entire ad campaign about how inferior Chevy is, Ford should focus on their strengths and so should Apple.

Step 3. Launch something, I think MS will build this campaign some more then have a product launch. In the middle of this campaign would be a perfect time to launch Windows 7.

Microsoft's lack of originality is quite easy to dislike and frankly annoying. But, they are genius at taking others' innovations and carbon-copy them for their success. They allow others to take risk and they learn from it and cherry pick the success that filters through. Even their effective ad-campaign is a spin of the Apple campaign, they couldn't even be original with that.

MS basically acknowledged that Apple is doing a better job by acknowledging the Apple Ad campaign. Again, MS cannot come up with an original idea!

Exactly so. Regardless of how good or bad this Microsoft ad campaign is, the real point is that Microsoft is now in reactive mode, on the defensive to Apple's efforts. That point can hardly be lost on even the dullest TV viewer.

Right now I'm thinking: "I'm a PC, so what?", I mean, any comparison at all?

There is no feature comparison or anything, just an idea that "a PC goes everywhere", almost like "I gotta make an ad or something about it, but I don't know how!".

That my friend was LEDGENDARY! You should work in the marketing section of apple HQ :D

:p;)

I'm no fan of Microsoft but I felt like this was a pretty good ad. First off it wasn't confusing and second it made it seem like real everyday people use and like Microsoft (which happens to be true). I do agree with the fact they are forfeiting brand recognition to market PCs rather than Windows, though I'm not sure it will hurt them since the two terms are virtually synonomous in the American mind.

I'd also add that I agree that MS is basically conceding that Apple has been winning the marketing war for some time now.

yes..

Mac: Hi, I'm a Mac
PC (wearing hip clothes): And I'm a PC! I am without walls, and am no longer stereotyped...
Mac: I connect well and work seemlessly with the new iPods, iPhone, and the AppleTV. The new Macs have the latest Intel processors and have sleek designs...
PC: I'm a PC, without walls, and am no longer stereotyped...
Mac: That's nice...
PC: I just got one of those new iPods....

On screen: "Apple, without errors"

Re: I'm a PC

howbout... "I'm a PC, and I actually paid money for a Zune!"

nah.... no one will ever admit that in public!

Beautiful! Why so BLUE? Get it?

Here is just an homage rewrite:

Mac: Why so blue today PC?
PC: Well Mac, without my walls my windows crashed again.
Mac: Apples have never needed walls, they grow best outside
PC: (holding himself, looking frightened) Was that a leopard? I think I saw a leopard! (looking around, frightened, eyes darting)

They make me think, I should get a PC.

I then remember what PCs are like.

Then I run.

Simply put, Microsoft need to cater to a more creative market. If they did that, I'd get one. Thing is, the reason I like Macs is because they are aimed at creative professionals.

That was pretty legendary too my friend :p
You should also list some more of the things that Mac works seemlessly with. EG. 'Everything.'

Haha :D good job

Well, at least this was better than the Seinfeld ads. It "works," which is probably the point. Cute to see some current events in it, too (e.g. "I blog for Obama," "I broadcast for McCain.")

The only problem I see is that it's adopting Apple's framework. "I'm a PC" isn't a M$ creation, it's an Apple creation - so you could say that it's reclaiming this from Apple, or you could say that Apple has so successfully ran their campaign that M$ has no alternative but to try and counter it.

LOL!
I like the part where the astronaut says that he's a PC.
Made me think of the virus in the International Space Station. (thanks to a pc)
