Copycat

I'm glad to see Microsuck hasn't changed over the years. Still has to look to Apple for their ideas. Next ad will be: "I'm a Mac trapped in a PC." They could get Jerry Springer to interview a cross dresser(PC) about how it is a Mac but is really a PC inside.

So is this the first MS news article to ever have more positive votes than negatives?

Thats BS and you know it.

I actually always viewed the commercials as Windows vs OS X. One OS is built for work, one is built for play/entertainment (and if you're lucky your work software works on the Mac too).

I mean, if everybody made their lives just like work nobody would wear shorts and T-shirts on the weekends right? Americans, for the most part it seems, like to separate work and play.

The shark cage is funny because it can be misinterpreted on so many levels, all of which are pretty anti-M$; my own would be: I'm scared of attacks (malware, viruses, etc.) which is why I'm stuck in this cage and can't swim freely (i.e. install any software I like)

Ok Eva and Tony are definately Mac I should know I sold Tony a Macbook Pro and Eva a Macbook. I guess money talks... The whole spurs team is MAC

Really? Then that just proves that money can buy anyone. They are Mac users and have no problem being a hypocrite by endorsing a Windows ad.

PC comes in from left holding a couple small windows in front of him
Mac: Hey PC! What's with the windows?
PC: I have become enlightened and realized I don't need walls!
PC straining to keep the windows held up right
Mac: Aren't you arms getting a little tired?
PC(straining): Can't... Drop... Windows
PC grunts and drops windows
Mac: Hmm, looks like your windows crashed...

;)

Dude, that's pretty histerical... :D

Uh...what?

That's the lamest ad I have ever seen! "I'm a PC"....ok, and????....
Just because a bunch of random people can say "PC", I should go out and buy one?........
uhhhhhhhhhh...no.

AND - If M'soft wanted to answer the MAC/PC ads, they really should have done that a WHILE AGO.

Phase II of Microsoft's $300 million rebranding ad campaign started airing tonight during prime time. The ad showed a series of individuals saying "I'm a PC" in various settings.

The ad is a direct response to Apple's "Get a Mac" ads where Justin Long and John Hodgman play the Mac and PC characters, respectively. Microsoft is embracing the "I'm a PC" line in their new ad campaign. The ad is presently being hosted at Gizmodo.

PC??? Like Politically Correct? That's supposed to sell Vista?! LOL

Really? Then that just proves that money can buy anyone. They are Mac users and have no problem being a hypocrite by endorsing a Windows ad.

They aren't hypocrites, they just have their price. Heck, if MS paid me what they paid them I'd go on the ads! I doubt too many people here would say no, unless of course you're rolling in it that much that you couldn't handle some extra money...

About time that elitist Apple advertising series got the slapdown it deserved.

I'm a PC (five, actually), and still can't afford a Mac...

With all the money you spent you could have bought a Mac and it would work better than your 5 PCs... :p

I thought it was surprisingly good. Less aggressive than Apple's, but Microsoft don't need to be aggressive with their market share, they just need to make Apple's ads look petulant.

Now we just need an "I'm an Ubunter".

Cant wait for Apple's response! :D

Don't think they'll waste their energy on a cat fight they've already won.

What are MS advertising here - is it Gates, who has just stepped down; Vista, the current OS; XP the Windows OS that is most prevalent; Windows 7?

Did anybody else find them to be a bit "We Are The World" or "I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke"?

A little. What made them different - and better - was the use of humor and a less trite concept of diversity. By showing, say, a lawyer and an artist and a DJ and a, what, scuba diver or whatever, they show just how universal Windows really is without falling into that Benetton/We are the world shtick.

Personally, I loved these. These nailed the very thing Microsoft needs: a personal face on their product. The way Apple blasted them, and brilliantly, was to make PC users feel isolated and subject to the whims of the stereotyped PC lameness. These countered them by showing that PC users aren't isolated but part of an interesting, diverse, hip crowd that spans the world.

CP+B really hit this one out of the park. Although, everyone realizes that all of these ads were put together on a Mac, right?

This should be Apple's response...

Mac...Hello I'm a Mac.
PC...And I'm a PC..welcome to a world without walls.
Mac..Is that your new marketing slogan? I like it...sounds catchy.
PC...Thanks...I had to do something, what with more users switching to Mac's every day.
Mac...Just one question though. If I live in a world without walls, why would I need windows?
PC...(look of disgust on face)

As a long time mac user, after the first few "Im a mac" ads I started finding them pretty smug. By the "cheerleader ad" I found myself rolling my eyes every time i hear the silly mac music come on. But they are working. Apple's market share is going up etc. I actually liked the Seinfeld ads, but not as "ads" so to speak. Too fast paced and over the average user's head.

The new I'm a PC ads aren't bad either. The music is worse than apple's music, but that's not saying much. The concept is nice. And it's true, I use a PC at work and get plenty done (XP of course). I'd rather use a mac...but what you gonna do.

For pure entertainment though, i love IBM's ads.

I felt embarrassed for Bill Gates when I saw the commercials. All the marketing in the world isn't going to salvage Vista. Microsoft should concentrate on the version that's going to replace it.

the one major problem ive seen with using pharell as a "im a pc" person.....

ive seen pics and vids (i think) of him with a mbp....

personally, i was a "pc".....then i it was alright....i only used it for the net and email. then i wanted to get a laptop.....and they all looked like crap......

so i got a macbook, cause it looked nice and everyone i knew loved theirs....

now i love mine, and use it for WAY more than just email and the net....

so "i was a pc"......and i realised they're crap!

theres the next mac ad!

Ad is Good but Windows is still Bad

In all honesty I thought that was a good advertisement. However, Windows still has so many problems that I can not honestly recommend it to anyone. The virus and spyware issues are incredibly horrendous. And if you are trying to do reliable audio editing - forget it. It really is not worth the hassle and energy. I have used PC's for about 15 years and provided extensive technical support for them. What I learned is that if you enjoy pain and having to ticker with your machine very frequently and run spyware scans, registry corrections, and virus scans frequently - then purchase a Windows machine.
I really wished for a long time that Windows could do what a Mac could do - but it still can't - at least not reliably or without an enormous amount of maintenance.
I do realize that competition is good and hope that Apple will continue to stay ahead of Windows especially for people working in the creative fields.

I like em. They're quick paced-- and I enjoyed seeing how each person connected to the others-- and then I thought the way the guy says "I have a beard" or "I wear headbands" sorta trailed off was funny.

Are those email addresses at the bottom of the screens real? I guess they want you to connect with em. Im toying with the idea of sending off an email.

I was amused by the Seinfeld ads, but I can see why they moved to these other ones. They're pretty nice.
