I don't like these as much...
The Seinfeld ones were more entertaining. It was kind of like TV show. These are kind of...typical...

Pass me the salt please...

I think this one is better than the ones with Seinfeld. Although I must say that from a creative perspective it is cheap and lacks innovation. For that amount of money they could have blown us away with a whole new concept instead of just reacting to the Apple ad format......that's what bugs me the most....so many creative people out there in the advertising industry and THIS is what they choose?

Even the local coffee bar around the corner tries to innovate more than this "No Walls" company.....guess No Balls is more suitable...excuse my french..

And for all you windows lovers out there, NO this isn't an attack merely because I am a Mac fan, I am judging this from a whole different POV...thank you very much
:D

great advert. great response to apple and much more adult in portraying people rather than the game of who is better.

microsoft are still in the position to be adult about it though they have reason to really tighten up on design as they are woefully behind.

as to the mccain and obama stuff: 50% of your customers are not in the united states so who the bloody hell cares what is mentioned ever. there are people outside that country no?

I'm a PC

I think they're solid, direct and from now on everytime someone who has seen these see's the I'm a PC Mac commercials they'll think about all the other people and how Apple is sterotyping PCs/PC users. Yeah, I know Hodgman is playing a PC, not a user, but that's what people take away from it.

not bad ads, I think they're quite good, although slightly unoriginal.

It reminded me of the Beijing 2008 Olympics ad that has been playing for quite some time, where everyone said "I'm not xxxx" one by one, in different languages and then towards the end they say "I'm an athlete".

(can't find it...)

p.s. and that I'm a PC... there was one accent sounding like "I'm a pissy" lol

maybe it would be better if they said "I'm (name) and I use/love/(whatever verb) a PC".

How many of them are using Vista ?

in a way it's back to classic MS. can't come up with anything original that is good, so just riff a response copying off someone else's original idea.

Pleasantly unobjectionable

Solidly okay, I'd say. These ads are pleasant, with a touch of wit at times, but there's sort of a "wide-appeal blandness" to them. Ironically, that's partly the point of the ad, I suppose.

Rather than Seinfeld, in this case Microsoft is being endorsed by "diversity". However, note that the product itself is rendered irrelevant to the message: "A whole bunch of people around the world use it." The end.

A fair response to Apple's ads, but still nothing groundbreaking here. I doubt very much that anyone will be talking about these ads once this initial push wears off.

I dont mind the ads.. Couple of strange things though; The presence of Bill Gates in their adverts at all.. I mean, whyyy?

Big fricking surprise you're a PC, BILL GATES. And Steve Jobs also "wears glasses", but the Apple adverts weren't about *you*.. They weren't about your userbase either. What part of "I'm a PC/Mac" is hard to understand?

What I'm saying is they might be more convincing if they fought how the platform was being represented rather than the users, considering the Apple ads *have* misrepresented the platform repeatedly.. But they go off on a tangent about the users instead. Hmm.

Nobody went around after the Apple campaign referring to themselves as a Mac or a PC, apparently MS expect you to think of yourself as "a pc" if you use Windows? Or they expect us to pidgeonhole everyone we meet into "Mac" or "PC" boxes.. Whaa.

Screw you guys, I'm a Newton eMate 300! Or a cup of tea..

More seriously though, Imagine if Steve Jobs did Apple ads. :D Who thought putting Bill in these was a good idea? It's amusing, but.. Strange!

I think they're probably reasonably effective as ads go conceptually, the delivery is ok, it seems a little pointless though? I don't see them affecting anyone's thoughts or buying plans. Who doesn't know about windows? Who cares? This isn't going to make anyone care.

Well at least I'm not clueless after watching this one. Actually, I think it is a pretty good plug for Microsoft and their massive share of the computer market--seems the right approach. Maybe it will help inspire some gains to my small holdings of Dell and Microsoft stock that I bought back when "I was a PC".

I do see your point, mixel--using Bill Gates can be seen by some to be an act of desperation.

These are pitiful. The whole point of the "I'm a Mac" ads are the fact that they tell you why to buy a Mac. Why Macs are better. Obviously, they're showing off Mac's features. In these commercials, the PC people talk about nonsense. Why would these make me want to buy a PC?

Coz one of the guys had a beard! It means PCs are wise!

People seem to not understand that Microsoft/Apple aren't exactly direct competitors. Apple is a Hardware/Software company, Microsoft, for the most part, only sells software. If someone who owns a Mac is running Windows (which, if the law is being followed, means MS sold them a license), Microsoft isn't going to complain. They've sold their product.

Your Dells/HPs/Toshibas would be the ones that have a problem with that scenario.

You make an interesting point, but I thought Apple typically claimed to be a great software company that also made great hardware. In other words, it made hardware to ensure the integrity of its software.

No more Hodgman commercials. Apple just got their ass royally handed to them. They would have to be crazy to continue with those ads, they cant respond back without insulting people further.

Im just surprised it took this long to come out with a commercial that gives Apple the finger. Any PC manufacturer could have done the same thing.

Funny, I think the exact opposite. Microsoft already got their azzes handed to them and now look pathetic using an un-funny John Hodgeman look-a-like to prove what point? That the REAL PC is less funny than the look-a-like?

HAHA!

If they'd not used the Hodgeman look-a-like, the ads would be much more effective. As it stands, they look petty and pathetic.

Wow. The bias and arrogance of some of you people is so thick that you would never like a Microsoft ad. These ads are really good and the really humanize Windows. Its a great response and kind touching because it circles the globe.

Oh and these ads aren't meant to sell product!

why can't people who obviously prefer Microsoft just accept criticism without stereotyping Mac users as stubborn, single-minded, arrogant and biased? I mean most of the reactions here address the ad, and yeah it is no homerun....nice, decent but nothing worth an emmy or so.......

let's not be sore losers, hey!

Good advert. Better than the HP PC adverts. I like it. I think "I'm a PC and I live without walls." would've been a better end though then fade into the Vista tile.

So true. At the opening I thought it was an apple commercial.

I can see the panic and hysteria in homes across america...

"Hi I'm a PC"
OH LOOK A NEW APPLE COMMERCIAL WHERES THE MAC THIS IS GONNA BE A GOOD ONE EVERYONE GATHER ROUND
<bill gates> "I'm a PC"
HUH WTF?
<random people> "I'm a PC"
(everyone turns off tv)

Nope, that's just to support users who switch during their transition. Web designers have to support Internet Explorer 6, does that mean they're all stupid? No.

No, it's not. I'm pretty certain that a lot of people will be using Bootcamp on a long term basis - myself included. Obviously, you seem to be Steve Jobs himself if you can be so sure that people only use it when they switch.

And the IE6 logic is tenuous. The developers aren't going out and making adverts like "IE sucks because it crashes" or whatever, and then promoting it. Apple is just using unrealistic situations and lame old myths in their adverts recently.
