I liked it. I don't see the need for elitest attitudes about it, anyways. It's one of the large reasons a lot of people get turned off from :apple: in the first place

I can't say I ever liked the apple commercials. I'm a mac user and I thought they were pretty lame with an elitist attitude. These commercials give people the impression that apple users are a bunch of schmucks. When I watched the I'm a PC commercial it was the total opposite of what the apple commercials tried to do. It just says that everyone uses a PC whether they're famous, rich, or poor. These commercials crosses all boundaries of our society and proves the point that you don't need a mac to do what you need to do. I hope apple wise up and stop making more of the same commercials.

These are nicely made. Kudos to the ad agency.

But they are a lose for Microsoft. Directly addressing the Apple ads validates Apple's existence as their rival. They didn't have to do that. It also makes them look weak, and a little desperate.

The impression I get is 'you're not alone. There are millions of us out there afflicted with the same disease. Everything is going to be all right.'

EDIT: Not that I like the Apple ads. I don't.

Better than the Seinfeld ads, but since this one seems to be doing the same as the apple ads (I'm a PC, and I'm a Mac) by saying "I'm a PC," They still aren't advertising any of PCs strengths over Macs! I mean, sure we know this commercial is advertising PCs over macs, but it's not telling people WHY to stay/switch to a PC.

Nonetheless, still better than the god-awful Seinfeld ads.

Was I the only one waiting for some kind of a joke in that commercial...like the astronaut's control panel blows up? :D

This ad might have one built-in advantage -- it's not a constant two-person gig like the Apple ads. They can bring in all kinds of folks.

On the other hand, no, it's not subtle at all, and lacks the wit and playfulness of the "I'm a Mac" ads.

f they'd not used the Hodgeman look-a-like, the ads would be much more effective. As it stands, they look petty and pathetic.

I can see the beginning for the next two Apple ads:

"Hi, I'm a PC and I'm not what you call hip". "Hi, I'm a Mac".
"Hi, I'm a PC." "Hi, I'm a Mac. You like genuine to me".

I think Apple might have stole the "Concept" of the mouse from PARC [Xerox], since PARC used a Three Button Mouse for there interface designed desktops, and Apple has always used a Single Button Mouse; up until recently with the Mighty Mouse.

Folklore.org

Xerox PARC didn't invent the computer mouse either. Doug Englebart at SRI in the early sixties did the first device recognizable as such.

Watching that ad made me want to make this...

:p
haha! excellent!

however, i think these new windows ads are very well done and they probably will be effective. but all of these 'apple just had their *** handed to them' responses fall short. the get a mac campaign has done a fine job, you never heard any talk about the switcher ads at the water cooler. and these windows ads won't get people excited or curious about vista or xp. they already know what they want and what they're getting.

as for apple being taught a lesson for stereotyping pc users? well, i don't look a thing like justin long and most pc users don't look a thing like john hodgeman. and i certainly don't think much people were offended by the portrayal of a 'personal computer' looking like a stout, middle-aged, square. was microsoft afraid of the way their userbase was portrayed? or were they afraid of how everyone had to buy a new pc to match the high specs for vista? so far they have 4 ads that only address one of those issues.

Also, other than just stating that "I'm a PC", why doesn't anyone in the ad mention whether they LIKE being a PC???

Very short Apple advert: "Are you a PC? You don't have to." Switches to picture of an iMac. Or "I was a PC". Switches to picture of a Macintosh. Run with differnt persons and matching Macs.

They are meaningless without reference to the Apple ads, and therefore you have to be reminded of the Apple ads - which means these M$ marketing dollars are actually reminding people of Apple products. Dumb.
I'm wondering how many people will watch it and say "this new Apple ad is really strange. Why was there no Mac in it? "

I just watched the first ad, maybe the others are different, but I think not.

By saying "I'm a PC" so many times, they're letting Apple dictate their own brand name instead of Microsoft. It engrains into people's minds that "PC" is a thing. Then, when Apple ads come on, the public sees "PC" as a nerd. While I get what they're trying to do by making "PC" hip again, they're 'sinking' to Apple's level.

What they should have done was have every single person say "I run Windows". Bring back the brand, instead of letting Apple define the Microsoft brand.

Great first start, but could have been better.
Overall: A+/B- [content/mechanics]

Life without walls? Seriously?? Hmmm...I wonder what happens if I disable this firewall this Vista comes {{cough}} with {{sniffle}}. Surely {{hacking cough}} nothing {{sneeze}} bad {{pulse flatlines}}.

Yeah... Because Mac OS X doesn't come with a Firewall and it certainly can't be hacked... /sarcasm

Not a bad comeback, but should have been done a long time ago.

I thought it was a good response, although unclever, clumsy, obvious, tactless, pointed, non-subtle, defensive, immature (what, are they gonna cry?? mean ol' Mac making fun of them??), ham-handed, it was a solid response. A stupid response but a solid response. :D

They took the Apple ads too personal -- their response was like they were hurt, and saying directly, 'hey, i don't either suck'.

They couldn't come up with something a little more clever and fun?

It's like they're trying to capitalize and leverage all the people that feel personally wounded from the Mac/PC ads, trying to rally them all. Still no class. Although Longoria is 'teh new hotness'! :D

Lets see...

How are those "I'm a Mac" ads clever, when they do nothing but re-iterate the same "up our own arse" point?

Clumsy...? Seemed pretty targetted to me. The first ads I would agree with were clumsy.

Tactless...? It's certainly not as tactless as the "I'm a Mac" commercials.

Pointed...? That's the point of commercials. You're supposed to make a point!

Non-subtle... How's that bad again? It's not like the "I'm a Mac" commercials are subtle.

Defensive... I would be too if the competition spread FUD about my product.

Immature... In what way are the "I'm a Mac" commercials are mature? You then go on to say "what, are they gonna cry?? mean ol' Mac making fun of them??" Yeah... "mean ol' Mac" is real mature as well. It was a lot more mature than the "I'm a Mac" commercials.

You already used other words for Ham-Handed.

The only thing I have to say about the commercial is that it was a LONG time coming.

A great add...

I like apple - my main design computer is my Macbook Pro
I like microsoft - my secondary notebook is a Acer Aspire One Netbook (this rocks)

Who said i should choose sides - i get the best of both worlds!

(btw - the Aspire One can run OSX with a bit of tweaking! The ultimate in OSX portability!) :D

My MacBook Pro and iMac can run Linux, Windows & OSX. No tweaking required!;)

You make an interesting point, but I thought Apple typically claimed to be a great software company that also made great hardware. In other words, it made hardware to ensure the integrity of its software.

Oh, definitely - I was just making the point that MS wouldn't care that you are running windows on a mac.

My MacBook Pro and iMac can run Linux, Windows & OSX. No tweaking required!;)

I don't get why people pretend that somehow shows the strength of Apple. If anything it shows the strength of Windows and Linux, and the oppsite of OS X.

I like the ad(s). Much better than Apple's version that's always annoyed the hell out of me. That being said, the internal dialogue of many of these people is:

"I'm a PC, but I'd absolutely be a Mac if my organization used and supported it..."

I'm a PC and I sell fish - something smell fishy to you about that...

I'm a PC and I turn #2 into... - yep that about sums it up, full of cr@pola...

Again MSFT heads prove they're clueless...

Speechless. Various unknown people saying they use the operating system used by 90% of the market. What's the message?

The 'comeback' to Apple's ads kind of reminds me of Bruno Kirby in Good Morning Vietnam when he takes over Robin Williams' radio show and tries to be funny. :D
