How embarrassing for Microsoft:

"Everyone thinks we suck, but we can trick really naive people into saying anything - and get them to do it on camera!

Frankly, I would have been more impressed had they actually shown some people who had a clue about the product before they got roped into spouting off ignorantly and then being caught doing so....

"So, when did you stop beating your wife? Er, Microsoft?

I've used both Macs and PCs since the 80s and neither company is full of saints or saintly behavior. (They're not all awful people, either.) However, all in all, the Mac experience has been more pleasant and less aggravating than the PC experience most of the time - except for all that "free" software cranked out by "get rich quick" types that make Microsoft machines seem like a "real deal..." Seem.

Apple's focus on "Let's take the cool stuff everyone's trying to do at home and make it actually work for "x" dollars is paying off for Apple and many consumers.

Hooray for that.

Too bad for Microsoft that nobody's cheering for them...

But, it's not like we wouldn't if they did something seriously worth cheering about.

In this case, using Vista daily, I can tell you that Vista isn't the "feel good" product of the year.

That iphone thingy though... That's pretty neat.
From what I've read, it was filmed in an 'Apple' store.

*** just joking ***

May I say the whole ad campaign is failed?

Personally, I have Vista Business on my Mac Pro 24/7 via Boot Camp and it does everything I need at work. However, the ad campaign just doesn't work at all.

One word, try for yourself. (actually, 3 words :D)

Well try to read my post again.

I was asking for the definition on "runs FINE"
And then I told about a frind of mine and his definition of "runs Great"

And then you will notic that I did try it there.
But yes Vista 64 is the best 64bit Desktop Windows, MS have made.

But Vista also demand a lot from the mashine to run it. And then next to that you need to have resources to run you program/game that you want to run.

Hmm..

I've participated in Microsoft Usability Studies that look a lot like these ads. Anyone on here who has also done a study would probably agree.

Here's the thing about those studies: you go in, give your opinion on the software they're showing you and you get your choice of Microsoft software for participating as an incentive to participate.

After seeing just the first ad that came up on the website, I wonder if it was the same sort of thing.

Also.. I have had the opportunity to use Vista. I didn't like it. I found it to be too different from Windows XP. I didn't enjoy the security warnings, the driver error windows that wouldn't go away, etc.

i'm no mac fanboy by any means but...

i just watched this and can't believe this is all microsoft could come up with. i swear i felt like i was watching one of those late night infomercials with very poorly paid actors.

incredible.

Couple notes after watching some more of them:

Microsoft notes the 'Experiment user breakdown' on the bottom of this page that:

Picture 3.png

= 121%.

And one interview I found was interesting
(Lady, bottom row, 5 in from the left [also 4th row, 3 in from left]):
It seems like its really good for its timelength, if its up against other systems, like a Mac system or something. You know what I mean like, if you were deciding between the two, I would say that this one has probably the best and newest features.

No offence to her, but she didn't know what Windows Vista was before she walked in there, but all of a sudden she knows all about the other operating systems?

It would be cool for Apple to do the same. Especially if they could contact the exact same people and say "Look, here's Leopard, I'll show you what it can do." and see what people say after. If these many people don't have a clue what Vista looks like, I would bet that they don't have a clue about what a Mac looks and feels like.

If Vista really was worth it, then I'd rate that ad as very impressive - a great way to swing it all around.

You would have to use it to appreaciate. There are so many ways to do that, that's been there through many versions, I could go on for awhile.
Different users do it different ways. I usually just right click, or box & drag. Like I said though.... MANY different ways.

Not referring to that. I'm referring to the length of time it takes to carry out the copy/move/delete procedure. Example, in XP I can copy files from a USB drive and it takes seconds. In Vista it takes minutes. The same applies when moving and deleting files. I had heard that this had been fixed with patches but I can't see an evidence of this.

Simple operations like this should not take so long - my verdict - vista is fundamentally flawed and should be steered well clear of.

Brown!

The clip on the website of the guy who says he likes the brown on the screen, and that brown is his favorite color... ZUNE CUSTOMER!!! :D

i have a eight year old iMac that runs Tiger perfectly fine.

Yes, it is slower than my MacBook, but that is a given.

Try running xp or vista on a eight year old PC without upgrading. i have a 10gig HD in my iMac... I don't think vista would even fit on that HD.

Windows Media Centre

just watched all of the adds.. i think none of these people actually had the pleasure of using tiger or leopard properly... infact i was surprised they hadnt seen or worked with a vista machine, considering how long it has been out for!.. and if they had used vista on a day to day basis without the help of MS assistants, they would find it whole lot more difficult. :p

HAVING SAID THAT... :D

i do like the windows media centre software that comes FREE with vista premium. i mean, ok you have to buy a tv tuner but those are quite cheap for vista (unlike flipping elagato rip-offs) and the whole recording tv programs would be a nice thing to have as standard on a leopard (software-wise at least).

btw, i have xp and vista machines, previously used tiger (on a lovely iMac G5 isight version:p) and currently using leopard on my macbook. i switched to macs back in 2005 and would never even think of going back to windows for my main, personal computer.

Flash and not Silverligth

Hmm notic that the page is using Flash and not MS own Silverlight.

When MS was ask why they still used flash on there site, the anwser was someting like. It would take to long time to redo it all in Silverlight, and no realy point in doing so.

But this is a new site.

Is this a sign that Silverlight is as popular as Vista?
And they know the only way that people would see the site was using Flash :)

Did they give these people Carls Jr. to eat too, and tell them it was a fancy restaurant burger?

OK, so you interview 500 people, 35 say really good things, 465 say negative things. So you post all 35 good reviews and 5 seconds of one bad one. And it looks like a landslide victory for Vista.

I don't know if my numbers were accurate, but until they give a break down of how many people they interviewed to get this "sample" of people for this website, then this means nothing. You can interview thousands of people and find some that will think Nazis are great, the ford pinto was a great car, mullets are a great hairstyle, the confederate flag should be flown...

While the ads may not be the best quality, the point they are trying to make is absolutely correct. The vast majority of people who bash vista are people who have no experience whatsoever and are just jumping on the bandwagon, as well as mac fanboys who just say anything they feel like because it's a microsoft product.

Ahh, they just didn't want us iPhone owners to be able to see their Ad Campaign. Or, maybe they knew we couldn't view either!

you have to buy Windows Vista Ultimate for that, how in anyway is that free then?

LOL. People I work with come out with stuff like that. I pay £25 per month and I get 600 minutes free!!!

Erm, no you don't - you get 600 minutes talk time for £25!!! DUH SPONGEBOB!!!

How. Sad.

I work for a very large company and the best our CIO and his team can come up with is "Vista...it's not that bad." 99% of the people who have been downgraded to Vista absolutely hate it. Are they really serious that all their millions of dollars in advertising is "No, really! It's not that bad!" I agree with everyone else...they must be showing them OS X. :D

I work in marketing, and I was already a cynical guy before I started down that career path.

So, take it from me that testimonials are horses***.

At best, they were written by copywriters and approved by the subjects/actors they hired to get the results they wanted. Every "um" "uh" or hesitation is more than likely scripted to give the video a feeling of authenticity.

At worst, it's completely scripted and performed by actors.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone believe testimonials anymore? I could be wrong (and overly cynical), but when was the last time you were swayed by a testimonial you read or saw?

to add to your point there only 50 out of 140 interviews are shown

People from the Mojave experiment went home and bought vista. They installed it on their OWN computers...then all of a sudden something funny happened. There computer ran slooooow! Their old printer didn't work. Their old nothing worked! All the fancy effects they saw on the premium (or whatever) vista on the demo laptop didn't work cause they weren't running a fancy arse copy on a fancy arse computer.

Poor people ;)

Do U suppose...... that some used more than ONE??? Now, taking that into consideration, do you still want to add them all together?
Should add to 100%

Even if I use more than one OS, they should record the primary OS that I use, or make a group that captures those who use more than one OS.
