Holy mother of crap. People here are actually Steve Jobs kool-aid. If youre too blind or stupid to see the genius of the video, Apple will always be behind.

Some of the best advertising ever made no sense. All you need is for people to remember your ad. They are doing that simply because no one makes sense out of it... YET.

Exactly the point i think :) Damn, this topic already has 427 comments on a MAC website. I think they are exactly accomplishing what the ad is supposed to do ;)

Anyway, I love windows.. for games ;) (bootcamp ftw!) and i do think it is a good ad, but not the regular kind of ad that everyone knows.

.....those commercials make my mind itch... What a load of acid inspired trash!

WHO WRITES THIS CRAP?! It's like... "Hmm, hey! I know what'll appeal to the audiences! We'll take random situations in a house without explaining any real reason why they're there to begin with, make really weird, stupid, gross, pointless and disturbing scenes with two people...ahh, just toss in Seinfeld with Gates, neither are really doing anything worth while now anyway, and then have Bill do the Robot!......woah....my hand dude..."

Someone needs to seriously ask the people who make Microsoft's commercials one thing: "Are you on LSD?"
Cuz let me tell you those Zune commercials? Right out of someone's worst acid trip.

Seriously, I think we need to establish one thing.

Appleheads on Drugs=Innovation.

Microsoftys on Drugs=nonsensical confusion...and Windows Vista. Pretty colors.....

Well, I liked that one and its very "Seinfeld", but then that's probably exactly what Microsoft wanted. Its strange though, with the amount of people on here saying they hate them, you do wonder who on earth was watching Seinfeld when it was first broadcast?

For some reason, now I really want to get a PC with vista on it.

I'm thinking about HP DV-5 intel 2.4ghz core2duo, 2gb ram, 250gb hdd... $700 from bensbargains.net

of course i'll have to dual-boot vista and leopard in case i want to switch back to mac.

but yeah, i find the commercial strangely effective at making vista look palatable.

Thanks for that online commercial, if you watch a video of a hot babe drinking some gatorade, do you go out and buy the gatorade?

If so you really are a marketers dream, stay away from car commercials... you'll be bankrupt within a week

Ever read a post where someone said of a video that they watched, where the viewer wanted their 2 minutes of their life back? This new MS ad being over 4 min., I would say, I want my 22 seconds back.

Oh yeah... and I watched it twice so I want almost 9 mins back...

I get this distinct impression many of the people who are disliking the new Microsoft adverts, are those who feel they either have to, or have some sort of reality distortion field preventing them from liking any product other than one produced by Steve Jobs.

I love the Mac Ads, but I have to say they have been done to death now. The Microsoft ads whilst vaguely amusing aren't that great either. But they aren't terrible.

sad ad™ again

it resembled a clip taken from a seinfeld "new" series, but as an ad is very sad...

I found it better than the fisrt one, and probably the third one will be better, but still not very straightforward.

Also, I'm very sad to see Bill Gates do that robot stunt, sad sad...

Um.... I just.... don't get it. I will watch them, I guess they are a bit cute? Maybe? but..... (insert scratching head icon thingy here)

How is 4.5minutes an advertisement that anyone is going to watch, especially when its not funny.

Bill and Jerry also seem really gay together.

Putting Apple and Microsoft aside for a second, this thing is creatively bankrupt.

Which is ok if we're talking about entertainment, because then it's just a waste of time.

But as a form of advertising, it underscores how out of touch with reality Microsoft is in ways not even the Apple ads could have accomplished.

It is different.

I have a feeling it is targeting what apple has not been doing. ms Began this because of Apple, but they are smart(!) enough to pursue different things from average people than apple. It has (great) potential to be successful after all. I realize that ms has smart people, and also money to spend some time around.

Apple has been on negative strategy, and it could gain in short term. I think ms is going on to positive side, to gain positive image. It reminds me of political campaign, regardless of partisan similarities.

these ads are so stupid I hope that Microsoft doesnt think that they are going to sell more product by airing those commercials, they dont really accomplish anything.

I thought the first one was interesting. The second one is awful. Makes no sense. Jumps from scene to scene with no connection or too many to follow. I guess they expect people to watch it repeatedly on the web to gain insight into what they are really talking about.

Maybe the idea was to indicate choices and confusion in buying a PC and Vista.

Is it me or...

are the best lines in the ad reflect both Gates and Seinfeld

"As we discussed, you and I are a little out of it" - Seinfeld ;)

"We need to connect with real people" - Seinfeld

"Are there any monsters in the story"
"Yes, but it is ok, there's a firewall (that's scary!)" - Gates

"How long till it gets warm?"
"It never gets warm" :p

"I'm disappointed in the both of you"

"Hello lame-os" :D

I thought this ad was slightly better, but again, with money to burn, who needs to make sense!

Thing for me about these ads is the Bill Gates comes off well. You clearly see that he isn't arrogant, he really is a nice guy.

The first ad seemed better than the second. I felt that the second ad was a bit unfocussed and lost its way in the middle. I did like the end when Bill did the robot dance thing though.

For me these ads bolster Gates' image, but probably not Microsoft. As evidence from the anti-trust case shows, Gates himself is often not happy with the Windows product experience. And anyway, how much influence/control does he have any more?

But I suppose for people who think Gates is the same as Microsoft, the ads could help the MS image.

I think one of the points in the ads is that they are in fact nice and positive, and may eventually make Mac ads seem a bit.. nasty?

The first one was okay, only sucked in the end when they stepped out to the parking lot. Felt like the obligatory windows promotion part.

At least they aren't dissing the competition, like one company I could mention...

Is their intention to bore everyone in the world to death so that only Microsoft (who will have been warned beforehand not to watch) will remain?

I mean, I don't find the Apple ads particularly exciting either, but at least they're bright and colourful and have (mostly) cool music.

How old? And if they were gay, so what? That is just such a lame thing to say.

I don't know if you realize this but when people call something gay they are saying it with negative connotations.

Some of the best advertising ever made no sense. All you need is for people to remember your ad. They are doing that simply because no one makes sense out of it... YET.

But at least they're interesting to watch. The ol' Guiness horse/wave advert was hypnotic, and other more cryptic adverts have been nice to watch. This is just plotless, aimless, erratic drivel.

Another Dumb Ad

The first one was dumb and the second one was dumber, Sounds like a funny movie I once saw.

Thanks

Another Viewpoint

I like it. Strangely enough this ad makes sense in a strange, peculiar way. it was funny, and spoke to a broad point.

The only thing is that is about 15 years to late.

I love the Mac Ads, but I have to say they have been done to death now. The Microsoft ads whilst vaguely amusing aren't that great either. But they aren't terrible.

I agree. "Hi, I am a PC" and "Hi, I am a Mac" are getting long in the tooth. It is time for Apple to move on to another ad, without people.

The iPhone ads are the best I have seen, IMO, from a tech company. Shows you what it does, and how remarkable a feat for a phone to be doing it. Brilliant ads that get their points across in 30 seconds.

Microsoft deserves some kudos for doing something different. Thinking differently? Sounds familiar to those who love Apple so much, which I do. But I give Microsoft credit for trying a different avenue that hasn't been done yet. Whether or not people connect with it, that is another question.

But

The way I understood this ad is that the two of them where actually squatting these peoples house. Then they get kicked-out. Then, they go out looking for another house (the rose one) which they can squat until they get kicked out that one too...

That feels like some kind of green slime you can't easily get of your fingers and when you do it sticks to something else.. or like some virus.. but not like something cuddly you would keep..

It's probably just me..
