Come on, Bill Gates doing the robot! I think it was great! And even people on Apple forums are talking non-stop about Microsoft. I'd say something is working.

I was a little perplexed by the first ad, but I really liked this one. I don't think it needed the first ad, but I like where they are going.

I agree. "Hi, I am a PC" and "Hi, I am a Mac" are getting long in the tooth. It is time for Apple to move on to another ad, without people.

The iPhone ads are the best I have seen, IMO, from a tech company. Shows you what it does, and how remarkable a feat for a phone to be doing it. Brilliant ads that get their points across in 30 seconds.

Microsoft deserves some kudos for doing something different. Thinking differently? Sounds familiar to those who love Apple so much, which I do. But I give Microsoft credit for trying a different avenue that hasn't been done yet. Whether or not people connect with it, that is another question.

I agree. I think the long ad is really funny, and while not really 'telling what a product does' it has a pretty broad theme. I also think if the "I'm a MAC I'm a PC" ads were like this, all the fans would probably think they were awesome.

The old lady was great! Too bad M$ doesn't just give me some of their money instead of making commercials that make no sense.

w0w?!?

There is already nearly 500 comments on this and I don't want to read them all, so I am sure someone has said what I am thinking but, for the second time WTF?!?

If M$ wants to spend $300 million on this-let them-this is NOT doing anything to help.

How is this supposed to be selling Vista-or even computers?

I dunno-maybe M$ should give me 10% of the $300 million, I am sure I could make something more effective than this...

I work in, and have worked in, advertising for 20 years. Which, maybe that either means I know more or know less (from being too involved in the process) though still, I tune into the Superbowl for the ads, I read AdWeek, Ad Age, Creative Arts, and other publications that feature ads, usually the best of the best ads.

If this ad campaign gets featured in any of these publications for any other reason that the whole "WTF?!?" angle it will show that somebody paid off somebody. These ads, for the amount they've spent, means either M$ should fire their agency OR if they like it, proves all that is wrong with Microsuck goes beyond just poor management and crappy products. Wow, just ... wow.

As a Long Island boy myself, we'll be disowning Seinfeld now, someone else take him, we don't want him anymore and will be turning him away at the bridges. Sorry Jerry, you have been getting less and less funny over the years, we're going to have to let you go.

my response to this is the same as it was to the first ad:
what the f*@!

now if they could get bill to wear a brown suit and jerry to wear a sweater and jeans, and then the two of them could beat each other senseless in a fruit stand while bill says something about having had enough of apples dang it all............... now that makes more sense.
come on....... give me a sign, sigh and say you've had enough. :D

I like it

I thought it was funny, clever and original. Well, not original...more like exactly like "Seinfeld". It was entertaining though. I do have 2 issues with it though.

1. It makes Bill Gates seem just like one of the Seinfeld crew. I don't know about you but I wouldn't trust a single crew member to mow my yard, let alone make my computer run better.

2. Didn't Bill Gates retire from Microsoft? Why are they selling us on Microsoft with Bill Gates. Isn't Steve Ballmer in more need of an image makeover at this point? He's the guy they should be trying to get us to like.

I like that they don't seem to be able to dig on Apple, so they instead just do what they've always done...act as though Apple doesn't exists.

oh, and the "i'm a mac and i'm a pc" ads.

they still pound home in a pretty straight ahead manner some technical facts about pc deficiency to the apple mac in a simple manner each time.

they may appear to be getting long in the tooth but they still work. remember miller's "tastes lite tastes great" jock based ad campaign lasted what seemed forever before they changed it. then there were actually campaigns to bring it back, which never happened.

apple should still run new mac/pc ads and different style ads for specific products. the mac/pc ads still work and should until apple blows it and gets as bad as micro$oft, then they can hire $einfeld for an ad campaign using steve jobs (as the bill character).

just my 2 cents.

The series may never attempt to sell vista/windows directly--more likely just attempting to erase the "evil empire" stigma. It may work. But....one danger for softy in this campaign is parody--maybe SNL doing a similar style bit with Idi Amin or Saddam Hussein trying to soften their public images. It could get ugly.

Well, at least it's better than the Mac VS PC ads (Hi, I'm a pc... And I'm a Mac) which got really, really boring after the 10th variation.

This isn't an ad - it's a MINI SERIES. If M$ can't get their point across in 30 seconds...it's not worth watching.

Did you watch the extended version of Apple's "Sad Song" ad? ...bit longer than 30 seconds as I recall. M$ may have a ~30 second version to run along side this.

Sadie.

they use gates because this guy :

failed the audition

the reason that micro$oft windoze vista is/was bad is just that - they, micro$oft, ignore apple, linux, etc. and they just release new bloated products when intel gets processors out that will run it fast enuf to be semi practicle and when memory chips and hard drives get big and cheap enuf to run/store their new windoze releases.

'nuff said.

It's funny, and I always adore the sight of Bill being "ordinary". Though, so far, the campaign hasn't convinced me to stay with Windows and my Compaq. Let's see how it unfolds.

~3 months more till my first :apple:mac! (first post!)

I don't get why everyone is bashing these ads! I find them to be very funny and was laughing out loud at points. I don't think its effective as an advertisment for vista, but its at least quite funny.

It's always so ridiculously annoying to read Micro$oft and crap like that, seriously guys, we're just showing them the smugness we don't have...ahem. :D

I thought it was entertaining (more than the first commercial), but it still fails to sell me on anything. It seems more like a short episode of a TV show than a commercial.

I don't really think these ads are meant to advertise as much as they are meant to "refresh" the image of Microsoft and Windows Vista. It's a mini-series, as a couple of people have put it, that's designed to be entertaining and remind people that Microsoft is cool as well as carry a (closing) message that Microsoft connects people.

You guys gotta' see it from a more simplistic standpoint. It's (pick one: entertaining, funny, random, ect.), catches your attention, and says that Microsoft connects people. Simple, simple, just like the Get A Mac ads. "Get A Mac" is about as simple as you get. :)

You guys are such a bunch of tools. Microsoft could seriously come to your house, blow you, shove a gold brick in your pocket, and whitewash your fence and you would still find something to hate on. Do any of you read your comments before you post? Do you realize that your opinions are bordering on religious fundamentalism?

I love apple products. I own an iPhone, a Macbook Pro, an iPod classic, an Apple TV, and an iPod touch. I also own a gaming PC with Windows (gasp!) Vista on it. I am happy with all of my technology products, including the functionality I get from my gaming PC. Competition is healthy and keeps technology improving and prices down.

You all need to stop acting like Microsoft is a big bully and Apple is the scrappy little guy working against the corporate juggernaut. Sure, it used to be that way, but you need to face facts. Both of them are corporate giants now, and Steve Jobs is just a more arrogant Bill Gates with better marketing saavy who runs a company with better product design. If Microsoft wants to make ads to change their image (which is what they are doing) and you "Just don't get it," I would keep that to myself, because the people that do get what they are tryign to do (and are doing well, by the way) are laughing at you. Hard.

Very effective

You do not even have to watch it to know they (Micro$oft) is getting great press. Just here, there are over 400 posts, the commercials are causing people to talk about it. "Cute, funny, I don't get it, how does this relates to vista?, Gates has aged a lot, Gates still looks like a geek, Man did you see the haircut, how rude!"

Strong emotions and lots of people talking adds up to brand recognition and good will specially if funny.
