Oh no. I don't like this! MS doesn't need to taint the waters of Apple anymore than it already has. If it wasn't for the fact that Windows was so popular and became the big dog long ago we wouldn't need MS Office for the Mac.

I say if you want to Devolop for the Mac OS line then use XCode.

I can see it now, the MS Trojan Horse is about to be delivered in to the city gates of Apple. :(

My first thought was that VS2010 would be able to create native obj-c apps, but it seems far more likely that Office or Bing will be coming to the platform.

Office would be *fantastic*, Bing not so much. Visual Studio + native obj-c would be an absolute master stroke - seriously.

Apple + Microsoft > Google. Google is the enemy of both, and if Apple and Microsoft start putting their heads (and money) together, I think they can take out the Goliath, then go back to hating each other. Remember that old adage, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Google is just becoming a nuisance.

Who says Google is Goliath? It's more like two Goliaths going against one Goliath..

If apple starts working with Microsoft, it will only bring apple down, and give Google a nice edge. Seriously, when was the last time Microsoft made anything worth talking about? Let them sit in Redmond creating ****** software while their stock keeps trending downward. Apple is doing just fine without them.

I also don't understand why everyone is so worried about Google. The only edge they have right now is the fact that the iphone is locked down to ATT terrible network. Once the iphone is available on verizon, its game over.

Aw c'mon - "one analyst is predicting"...

Visual Studio 2010 was just released a month ago with a focus on the .NET 4.0 framework and SharePoint development.

MS is trying to get a big push on development for the new Windows Phone Series 7 coming later this year. With the lack of developers on that already I can't see them having this tasty distraction within their development app.

Calling BS on this prediction - it doesn't make sense on so many angles.

On top of that Microsoft's big TechED event (their version of WWDC) is June 7-11th... Check out their detailed topic list: http://northamerica.msteched.com/topic/list

Excellent point. I just went there and MS has their keynote at virtually the same time and day. Ballmer can't do both.

Also note that I think this misinformation happened because Microsoft's TechED is June 7th and so is WWDC. So if someone heard that Steve Ballmer was talking up Visual Studio 2010 on June 7th it'd TechED - not WWDC. Maybe the reporter didn't know about TechED and assumed June 7 = WWDC...

The keynote at TechEd the is at the exact same time and day as Apple's keynote.

Can't see how Ballmer could be in two places at once.

I change my vote to Fail.

This would be wrong on so many levels. At the very least, Ballmer's appearance could turn in to a public relations fiasco when he gets heckled by the Apple fanatics. Don't see anything good coming from this.

That said, I wish Ballmer good health and a LOOOOOONG tenure as CEO of MS. Couldn't be a better situation for Apple ~~~~~ :D

You mean the same MS that won the OS war over Apple, forcing the latter to make its name (and change its name) in a different market?

MS makes more revenue from just Windows and Office than all of Apple's operations together. It's about time the FB's realize that MS isn't the enemy.

Didn't say "VS for Mac". Rather, it was VS creating apps for Mac but writing it all in Windows. I don't see VS running on a Mac. That would be like Access running on a Mac. Do that and Mac sales jump about 40% overnight while Windows does the death rattle.

Wait a minute! Could it be that Apple is buying Mocrosoft? :D:p:eek:

But Steve Jobs said no cross platform app creation.... He made such a big deal about with with Adobe... Why would he let M$ do it? Makes no sense.
Yes, no cross platform app creation using third party build tool chains. They said nothing against having a ported iPhone SDK on windows.

I don't see this as happening, but if it did it would be HUGE! I have to admit that for me Visual Studio is a better development environment. It is easier to use then Xcode, at least for me.

That being said it would not be impossible for VS to be able to compile apps for OS X. After all Real Studio does it and windows and Linux. And it would not be impossible for MS to make a code translator that translates whatever VS code to Obj-c and the Cocoa/touch frameworks, but that is a HUGE undertaking and I think this analyst missed the boat here.

I hope it is true, but I just don't see it as likely.

Balmer should seriously come out doing the monkey dance.

It is WW*DC*, and what better way to break the ice? Slightly self deprecating to get the fanboys on your side, but also true to yourself. You meant it the first time right?

I have VS 2010 installed under VMWare/Windows XP on my work iMac. I'm not that familiar with it yet but I didn't see anything pointing to this. Maybe an additional download will add this functionality?

If true this will be interesting and shocking!

It could be interesting - I've seen Ballmer be very calm and CEO-like sometimes, but of course we've all seen the bouncing monkey version of him. That Ballmer would make an interesting contrast to the always-cool-and-in-control Jobs.

Ballmer might lift Jobs over his head, spin around, and scream like a banshee - who knows? :D

you all know ms saved :apple: from collapsing back in the late 90's right? and ms owns(ed) tonz and toz of apple stock (not sure if they still do)

Ballmer's not doing the keynote at TechEd. As a matter of fact he's never done a keynote at the US TechEd.

Bob Muglia is doing the keynote at TechEd this year.

So I guess it's still possible Ballmer could speak at WWDC.

Video Conference similar to Gates' Macworld appearance back in the day.

If Microsoft can't beat them join 'em!

The keynote at TechEd the is at the exact same time and day as Apple's keynote.

Can't see how Ballmer could be in two places at once.

Silverlight apps on iPhone would be interesting enough in their own right - recruit a lot of new Microsoft-oriented developers / corporate apps written in .NET / etc - but there's another possibility which would take this to a whole different order of magnitude of coolness:

Apple could allow unsigned Silverlight apps.

Assuming Apple is run by smart people (and it seems pretty clear that they are), the best argument for why they continue to require all iPhone apps to be approved in spite of all of the grief they're taking for it is security: they're running native applications right on the hardware, and a malicious iPhone app could do all sorts of horrible things if given the opportunity; viruses, stolen data, etc. Android apps run inside of a Java virtual machine, so it's considerably easier to block malicious behavior in those. The approval process itself may actually be responsible for many of the app rejections - once Apple's in a position to review and approve apps, if they start approving apps that people find offensive they get into trouble even if those apps pose no security threat.

With Silverlight, however, Apple would now have a virtual machine of their own. Certain performance-intensive apps might not be possible in Silverlight (though you never know, they could support XNA as well and thereby get access to a vast array of new games), but at least for relatively straightforward media-centric apps like political cartoons and, umm, porn, Silverlight should be more than sufficient. People can write whatever apps they want and distribute them themselves on the web, and Apple doesn't have to defend their approval of those apps to the "won't someone please think of the children?" set.

So Apple gets an answer to both the unsigned-app and (to a sizable extent) the lack-of-Flash complaints - HTML5 is still a few years away from being able to do everything that Flash and Silverlight can - and Microsoft gets a vast new base of Silverlight users and a fighting chance for Windows Phone 7 to actually have a decent number of mobile-optimized Silverlight apps to run.

I hope Apple and Microsoft start to realize Google is the real enemy here.

Windows 7, Zune, Project Natal, Windows Phone 7 ? Ring a bell?

I like Apple but Redmond have been churning out some pretty interesting stuff recently

I was thinking about the Apple/Microsoft/Google relationship today, and about the possibility of Apple and Microsoft teaming up.

Think of it in a Matrix analogy. Neo (Apple) and the machines (Microsoft) were at war, and suddenly, Agent Smith (Google) pops up and become a problem for both of them. So they kind of set aside their differences and unite against a common enemy.

Matrix Revolutions sucked, but it fits here.
