Not sure why you were down-voted; I think you're exactly right. It makes me nervous to be sure, but that does seem to be the simplified model that Apple is approaching. A lot of their products [MacBooks, Mac Pro, non-touch iPods, etc.] all seem to have headed or be heading in the same direction.
Towards a elegant, mobile computing paradigm.
iPod Touches, iPhones, and MacBook Pro/Airs all running the iOS/Mac OS X. I think there will be quite a hubbub over it - I don't know how I feel about it myself - but ultimately, I think it's just Apple pushing the envelope into a new [Post-PC, to use their words] era. And the complaints will eventually subside when the iPhone 9 has more processing power than my MBP.
And from the looks of Windows 8, it seems that MS has recognized that paradigm shift and wants to be the first with a unified OS. Because after that, it's just getting the power of the portable to devices to the level [and beyond] of the current power workstations. But the company that figures out the best cross-device OS implementation in this shift ... Well, they'll be a very rich company.
