I think they're making this s**t up as they go along. Every customer service experience posted on the forum has a different excuse given by an AT&T lackey.

I completely agree. This is ridiculous. AT&T should at least publicly mention this outage, even with a text message to those affected.

50 miles south of Boston and/or 15 miles east of Providence, RI and can confirm no data as of 6 this morning. Working fine last night so between 10pm and 6am some one pulled the plug somewhere. I've been with AT&T since about 1998 and service has been spot on for me. Voice works but this is the first time I'm using a smartphone. Hopefully the data network improves over time (and quick!)

On the phone now...CSR says "the network is just really slow right now so be patient" After 3 minutes of it not connecting to google he had me reset network settings and reboot the phone. Still nothing. So he now has me on hold to see if there are any updates on the "slowness of the network"

Try having a CSR tell you to remove the battery so you can perform a hard reset to have the phone update.......I told him 5 times I have an iphone which means I'd void the warranty, he didn't care.

My data is fine in western PA. I'm in an EDGE-only area so I can't attest to 3G. I'm in a previous Dobson/Cellular One area.

No 3G or EDGE here in Lancaster. As usual. It's been up and down here for over a week. Just sent a nice email to AT&T and about 15 seconds from calling. Assuming that part of their sh*t network still works. I pine for the days of Sprint and that REALLY SUCKS. Anyone who puts me on the side of Sprint should be shot.

So THIS is why I'm getting no data.

Sheesh. What a morning of frustration.

Just talked to CSR at AT&T and was told that as far as she knows it is the entire East Coast but just for iPhone Data. I asked her when it would be up, and she said she had no eta, but they were working on it. When I told her I wanted a credit to my account for the outage, she told me that she would note my account for a credit, and that they would credit me for the amount of time the network was down. She would not give a credit for a specific dollar amount.

Again, relying on an AT&T CSR to diagnose your problem will very likely do one of two things:

1) Create a problem with your phone where one didn't exist previously, and/or
2) Waste your time completely.

The only thing I would do is yell at the CSR for a credit.

the first person told me to do that too....just got off the phone. "The technicians are working on it now" they told me to call back when I have data serivce again and they will give me "some sort of compensation" whatever that means. Meanwhile I have an excuse not to answer any emails when I am out of the office for the next few hours

I called AT&T and the representative I talked to confirmed that AT&T is having data outages in many states. I politely stated my frustration and asked for a partial refund of my data charge.

To my surprise, I was given a $30 credit. For the service we are getting, it may not be a bad idea to call for a refund.

One more thing, the representative I talked to must be having a hell of day. It's only 10:30 AM here in NYC but she had a 6:00 PM voice, aka I-cannot-get-out-of-the-office-fast-enough voice.

Fairfield County, CT... NO 3G or EDGE data either, i guess i'm calling my CSR again and asking for a refund.

The system is failing!!! Cats and dogs living together! Mass hysteria!

IT'S THE iPOCALYSE!!!

Seriously, between ATT and Apple, I've heard every excuse possible, but what really gets me peeved is when I obviously know more about the technology involved here than the CSR yet they still talk down to me. Just give me my credit and thank me for my business!

Good day sir. I said, GOOD DAY!

That's the same as saying "Oh, our network just really sucks right now, be patient. let me check to see if there are any updates on our network sucking"

I'm actually somewhat relieved, I thought it was just me. But I'm glad everyone else is suffering just the same.

How can you be glad at this.
I and other members of macrumors have been saying there has been a problem for a LONG time and noone did ANYTHING about it.
Macrumors site still has nothing posted on this even though this is a major problem.

I just got the same runaround...since it's a "known outage" they won't do anything or credit my account. So I'm about 10 minutes away from paying the ETF and going back to Sprint or T-Mobile or anyone but this two-bit piece of sh*t network.
