If you don’t recall, go look up the price of the original MacBook Air models vs. the prices after the first revision. Cost of parts/production goes down over time and Apple has a huge margin they can work with if needed.
True. But they’ve never done that with iPhone before (other than reducing the price of the original iPhone several months after release). Of course anything is possible but none of this seems to be based on inside information. It’s just speculation. Considering on the past two earnings calls Tim Cook has said iPhone X was the best selling model of all iPhones every week since it went on sale where is the evidence that prices need to be reduced? Of course I won’t complain if Apple does it but I won’t be shocked if they don’t either.

Yes, but the new iPhone 6.1" should be benchmarked against a iPhone 8 Plus; $799, not the iPhone 8.
For some reason I read your post as $649, not $749. Disregard what I said earlier, lol.

Also no mention of the smaller model but I would imagine this would have a price point of around $400-600 (depending on the design). I still think there is the potential that there will be 2 smaller models, with the traditional SE at a lower price point.

Awesome. I will be on the west coast and Hawaii from late sept to October. Will I be able to just walk into a store and buy one on full price as a non citizen?

A friend bought me my iPhone 7 Plus in the US on T-Mobile back in the day but he lives there.

It would save me tons. In fact I would probably be able to get the maxed out storage X Plus for less than the entry would cost here

Having all the new iPhones include Face ID with the new design makes sense, but why will the LCD model be slightly bigger than the standard 10? Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

Also seems odd that there won't be a plus model of the LCD phone, though I suppose this will oversaturate the line a bit with too many SKU's.
EXACTLY! This is what I don't understand. PLUS what about those who don't want larger than a 4.7" screen phone? To me, my X is LARGE and my gosh, there's no way that I'd go larger. I remember he days when people wanted a iPhone Nano. Remember those rumours in the summer of 2009 :) :) :)

That could be where an X style SE fits in. Maybe they can fit a 4.7 screen in the size of the current SE? I have no idea, but it's possible.

I wasn't a big fan of the X anyway, since the notch reduces its real-world screen size for video playback.

I still hear this all the time but never understand it. The vast majority of video content is 16:9, which isn't affected by the notch at all. If you're viewing something like 2.35:1 content, the viewable image is actually larger than on an LCD iPhone Plus model even when the view mode is set to keep the content out of the notched area.

So what is it that people could possibly be watching where the notch is affecting the content?

So the current size X is going to be $150 cheaper? How is Apple going to explain that (that doesn’t come across as the original X being overpriced)?

Sure, us iPhone X users will feel a bit burned but the reality is we will get over it since our upgrades will be cheaper. For everyone else it is just a win. This is a speed bump on the way to a much smoother road for Apple. Try to price their best phones year after year at $1000+ was a recipe for disaster.

I just hope they’ve improved Face ID this year. Needs to work at greater angles and distance, and it would be a lot better.

I'll try to get my aging 6+ to hold out until Fall, I'm sure. A (Product)Red iPhone X+ would be a nice gift to myself at the holidays.

In the same boat, will probably do the same in buying one.

Still, I can wait another year with my 6+ if needed.

Hopefully, though I would have expected pricing was one of the last things Apple would finalize? I'd be very interested in the 6.1 model.

You CAN upgrade as early as 6 months now, if you’ve paid off 12 months of payments. We’ll just have to see if they allow people to do so after only 9-10 months of payments.

my guess is that Apple and all the other phone companies (like mine, Verizon) that have the yearly upgrade plans WILL allow the early upgrade in September but will ding you for whatever is owed on the 12 month schedule. ie. if I upgrade in September I'll have to pay 2 months of payments to fulfill my obligation when I return my X to Verizon. That's a big bummer obviously since I'll be making 2 months of payments for 2 months I don't actually use the phone but if I want to be an "early" adopter I suppose that's the price I'd have to pay. At least my payments next year will likely be going down if its true my iPhone X(2?S?XI?) will be $899 vs. $1149. Apple and Verizon WILL take a hit on the deal though because the resale value of these phones is going to take way more of a hit than normal since the "new" price is dropping dramatically according to these rumors.

If this is true, then current iphone X owners like myself just got the _|_

Really? I got to use my iPhone X for 10+ months longer than people who didn't buy one the first go around, that had value to me. The iPhone X had tech NO other phone in the market had. Sure it will sting more if you bought it outright since the resale value will drop more than usual but at least upgrades won't be a $1150+ (128gb) for me each year, rather $899 which is a significant difference according to these rumors.

and faster. it's not that it is slow but it feels like the 1st gen TouchID sensor... adequate until you saw the speed of the TouchID 2nd gen sensor.

Vote with your wallet and don't be force fed by apple so they can slaughter your wallet for some pate.

Makes sense. Last year a lot of the tech was bleeding edge. Combine that with a new iPhone X Plus model and you'd end up with that model starting around $1199 which is a bit crazy. By introducing the iPhone X Plus model at $999 you can still help keep the average selling price high while pushing more volume at the low end. If that price turns out to be true then I'd expect the lineup to look like this:
  • iPhone X Plus: $999
  • iPhone X: $849
  • iPhone (new edge-to-edge): $699
  • iPhone SE (new edge-to-edge): $499
Additionally they could add a storage capacity option of 512GB on the two X models to bump ASP by a bit.

The X Plus is not in contention for me. Too expensive vs. the only slightly smaller 6.1" LCD device. I'll gladly give up the better camera and a little screen size to save $300.

The 6.1" LCD vs. the 5.8" X is another matter if those prices are close to reality. $150 more for AMOLED and the dual lens camera on the X vs. the LCD model sound reasonable while only sacrificing 0.3" of screen size. What would really sweeten the deal is if the new X has 128GB base storage.

My best guess right now is I'll wind up getting the LCD device if it comes in under $700 as that seems to meet my needs at the best price. It will depend on if Apple deliberately cripples it with limited storage, a previous-generation processor, and an inferior camera.

I'll just say the OLED isn't as life-changing as some people make it out to be. It's nice to have, and maybe if I went back I would be annoyed, but if you don't know any better you probably won't miss it. In a couple years they'll all be OLEDs and the top models will probably be shifting to mLEDs. Now, if Apple announces a dark mode today, the OLED might be more desirable. Especially if you want a big bump to battery life.
