That is exactly my main issue for the touch bar.No. Touchbar is an atrocity. I want to be able to touch-type volume & brightness controls without looking or remapping to some obscure 3-key pattern.
As for the changes with HDMI/SD card, I think they make sense, though I do wish they maintained at least 1 more USB-C port.
- Magsafe = power
- 1 USB-C/TB = monitor
- 1 USB-C = mouse
- 1 USB-C/TB = external SSD since Apple storage pricing is pants-on-head ridiculous
- would be nice to have 1 more USB-C for thumb drives or other accessories
Remapping isn't the problem.
The problem is that it isn't a tactile one-touch for the commands I use most.
When I wake up groggy in a dark room, and I can't see the letters on my keys, I need to be able to press ONE key to backlight my keys.
When I'm in a library, and suddenly a notification or sound begins playing unexpectedly, I need to be able to press ONE key to silence my Mac.
When I go outside with my Macbook in one hand, and the screen brightness is too low to see in sunlight, I need to be able to press ONE key to up the brightness. I need to do this without looking down to make sure my finger has activated the touch bar display, tapped the small left-arrow arrow button on the touch bar to expand the sound controls, and is positioned on a tiny brightness slider knob so I can adjust it. Too many touches, visual checks, and hassle. If I'm paying $2000+ for a laptop, I expect to do without the hassle.
The touch bar is too complicated for its own good. Keys just get the job done much faster, with far fewer touches or visual checks like looking down.
