Same issue here, as far as I can tell it’s only non-iMessage group chats. I have the 12 Pro on Verizon, and didn’t have this issue until activating it. Of course Verizon wanted to go through all the iMessage troubleshooting, even though it’s not iMessages that are the issue. 🙄
I have been through hours of troubleshooting with Apple with no resolution. Please send feedback to Apple. I'm not sure its a Verizon issue because I have multiple people in a group chat with different carriers having issues.

I’m in T-Mobile as well as my friend who is also experiencing the issue. Only recommendation Apple support provided was doing a clean install.

Yes thats what they want me to do but I am resisting since I dont think the issue is with the phone as I know many others are having the issue, some without new phones and it all started recently.

I've been having the same issue on my 12 Pro. Verizon store guy told me that he had the issue recently, on his previous generation iPhone, so he thinks it's software related. Said he turned iMessages and Group Messaging toggles off and on occasionally over a period of a week and it eventually cleared up. I have my doubts that his toggling had anything to do with it eventually working, if it even really is working for him. Seems like a very intermittent problem anyways, so hard to really believe him when he says it's been fixed for him. Pretty annoying that they have no real answer and that these messages just seem to disappear and don't go into a holding cell until they are properly received. So far I've only seen it happen in groups that involve an SMS user. Just another reason to not like SMS and Group Messaging.

I’ve done all the troubleshooting except wiping my phone. I believe it has to be software related too. Just frustrating because I am missing important messages from my kids coaches etc that have team group texts. Between what we pay for the hardware and the service, this shouldn’t happen, at least there should be some way to fix.

Just tried this...will report back if I see any difference.

OK. My wife is experiencing this too on her new iPhone 12Pro. We have tried everything short of wiping the phone and starting fresh. I couple of days ago, I reset network settings on iPhone and I thought that did the trick, but it started happening today. I'm not sure what else to do? We are on TMo and she upgraded from an 11Pro.

Interestingly, I upgraded to the 12Pro at the same time (from an 11) on AT&T and I am not having this issue (I did not start fresh either). I also have a separate Android phone & number; I have family group and I also have a group chat with my wife and my two phones and this is where I can consistently replicate the issue. It is very random and she seems to get only 50% of the group chats.

I agree with others - this does not affect iMessage, but has something to do with the delivery of sms messages in a group setting. Since it also appears to be across carriers, it is unlikely a carrier issue.

I’m having this issue on my 12 pro with At&t. Tried all the usual troubleshooting and it hasn’t helped.

Same issue here, but it’s not all group SMS, just some don’t get through. Have only seen the issue with mixed iMessage/SMS recipients.

Stats:
  1. Verizon 12 pro 512
  2. using the SIM card that came installed in the phone via iUP.
  3. 5G OFF, LTE only
  4. Restored via iCloud from 11 pro, same OS version (14.1)
Perhaps we can all share similar datapoints on sim, 5G/LTE status, etc to try and narrow it down. Any other relevant info we should track?

My Stats:

- Verizon regular 12 128
- Using SIM that came installed, purchased from Verizon (shipped from Fresno)
- Had the problem both with 5G on and off.
- Restored via iCloud from 11, same OS

This was happening to me. Try turning off iMessage In message settings. Then reboot the phone. Once it’s back up, then log back in to iMessage. Seems to have worked, fingers crossed. It was happening on SMS group messages only. I’m on Verizon.
I’m glad to finally find something about this. I’m the only one in a couple group texts with the 12 Pro (T-Mobile). The groups are blended with Android and iOS users. I think my friends are annoyed I keep asking what’s funny or what I’m missing. I’ve tried logging out of iCloud and restarting. Turning iMessage off and restarting. Nothing is working and Apple is taking no accountability. It’s terrible. Obviously it’s something with the phone or 5G.

I am having this issue as well.

I posted about it in this thread (this was before someone replied pointing me to this thread).

Everyone, please leave feedback to Apple about this problem. We need to get this fixed.

Glad this is gaining traction, I have spent hours on the phone with Apple support. Keep leaving feedback for them.

Makes me wonder if it’s an iPhone 12 related issue or any new iPhone setup. Anyone not iPhone 12 experiencing issues?

So a little update...I spent another hour on the phone with an apple senior advisor. He uploaded logs from my phone that will be forwarded to the Apple software engineers to examine. We have a follow up call on Monday. Please report the issue to Apple, as he said there are no official reports of this issue in their system.

I just did the same thing. He had me poke around in settings for a bit and I shared screenshots that my daughter sent of the conversations, and what I actually received.

For everyone else, if you are having this issue and have not contacted Apple, please do! The more people that report this, the more information they have so that this will get fixed, and hopefully if enough people report it, they can get it resolved faster!

This was happening yesterday on my wife’s 12 Pro but seems to have stopped. I think it may have had something to do with the data on the phone not fully restored from iCloud. I used Direct Transfer for her from her 11 Pro to the 12 Pro. Once all her photos are synced, iOS will check to see if all Messages conversations shave been fully restored. My money is on that being the problem.

The issue is with new incoming messages. I don’t see how that correlates with a restore.

Having the same issue. iPhone 12 Pro, I don’t get some green bubble group texts. Apple support didn’t really know what to do. Spoke with Verizon, they don’t know either.

On eSIM on Verizon Wireless. Tried 5G, 5G mmWave, and just LTE and the problem persists across it all.
