the rays are going nowhere, especially with the way they have been playing lately. 5 game losing streak and have lost 6 out of 7 after a great run before this. what a shame, this team is too streaky. defense isn't as good as last year's, hitting has off nights at the wrong times and the pitching is just horrible (esp. price, kazmir, and sometimes garza and shields). yeah, they are over .500 and it could be the old devil rays again, but playing like this won't make the playoffs.

the braves look like they aren't going anywhere either, the issue isn't pitching, it's the lack of hitting. chipper and mccann have been slumping for a while and i have no clue what's going on with the lineup.

sigh...looks like october won't be fun this year for me, and espn gets the teams they like.

Honestly I don't know why the hell your GM picked up Pat Burrell. I thought from the beginning it was stupid. He can't field, and you basically have the same hitter in Pena. He was an expensive garbage player who only hit homeruns because he was in a small stadium.

The Rays could have used the money put towards him and sign a decent reliever or possibly Randy Wolf or something next year. But no, they are stuck with Pat the garbage Bat for another year. The Rays totally went out of what got them successful in the first place and went for Pat.

Obviously that isn't the only reason why the Rays are streaky. Missing Aki has hurt, because his defense at second was spectacular and Zobrist in Right is a monster, but below average at second. Pena atleast had a lot more plate dicipline in 2008 and 2007 than he does now. Upton going the polar opposite of what he should be doing. Balfour losing velocity on his fastball most likely due to age and he doesn't have an offspeed pitch to make up for it. The starting rotation is struggling.

My guess is that most of that stuff will be fixed by next year, sophomore slump for a winning team.

to add, pat the bat has gained weight. that seemed like a bit of a dumb move. rays need pitching help, should have gotten a wolf type instead. i think next year the rays will be fine if they don't go fire sale (which they shouldn't).

You know who I think has a chance of being good in 2-3 years? The Orioles. This is what I think needs to be done:
The problem is that the O's owner is cheap. That is why they are not any good.

From bad to worse for the Mess, after getting hit in the head by a pitch David Wright could be out for the rest of the season.

alright everybody!!!! we all know the los angeles dodgers are going to win the world series,

we are better than the yankees.

i predict that by october we will face yankees or our freeway rivals the angels. in the world series:D

this is mannywood!

The Dodgers are in a weak division. I don't see them coughing up the division to SF or Colorado. The Dodgers will most likely make it to the LCS again, but the WS might be pressing luck.

Manny is a worthless piece of garbage and so is any team that would allow him to play.

Well then, tell us how you really feel. :D :p

Besides Manny, why do you think you can beat the Yankees?

Manny is junk really but he's a player and that's all that matters. Despite what Manny may think, he can't win it alone.

I won't lie, i was mad at when he was banned for 50 games, for steroids or whatever they r called.

but the team, is not just about him, it's about the rest of the squad too!

we have orlando hudson, juan pierre, jonathan broxton, kuroda, russell martin, andre eithier and a bunch of other all stars!

and we are not a weak division!, SF is just trailing us a couple of games,

I can't tell you in words, but all I can say is that the dodgers are capable of beating them in a series. The team is full of all stars and future ones too.

The last 20 games i have seen, on average the dodgers outscore their opponents by 8 runs. We are averaging well.

That's because the Dodgers haven't been winning. They are cooling off right now. The Dodgers are playing the Cards, last time they played each other it didn't end too well for the Dodgers. The division is weak, Colorado and SF got hot and capitalized on the Dodgers when they haven't played their best baseball.

They got a pretty solid rotation for the most part, which will be dangerous in a short series.

What does it matter it if they have a bunch of all stars? The Yankees have fielded all stars since 2001 and they've have no championship to show for it.

Dodgers are 6-9 in August and the Cards are 10-3, not to mention that Carp and Wainright will be starting the first 2 games for the Cards and they're two of the best in the major league. (My guess is Piniero for the 3rd game and he can be hit or miss) The Dodgers are cooling off while the Cardinals are heating up, it's definitely not looing too good for the Dodgers for the next 3 games ;)

^Thanks, I knew the Dodgers were under .500 this month. I didn't know the cards have been on a nice little tear.

Boston looks like they are falling off the face of the planet at the moment. Rangers got .5 game lead in the WC. Tampa Bay is right behind them as well.

Hey guys, just a quick survey, who do you think are the top 5 hitters of baseball?

1. Albert Pujols
2. Joe Mauer
3. Manny Ramirez
4. Hanley Ramirez
5. David Wright

Honorable Mentions:

Alex Rodriguez, Todd Helton, Pablo Sandoval, Derek Jeter, Michael Young, Justin Morneau, Mark Texeira, Chipper Jones.

It's just like the pre 2004 years all over again :p Start off quick, build up a lead by the Fourth of July...Then have the Yankees overtake us for first in August. In seven weeks the Sox have gone from 5 games up to 7.5 back. And they were a clutch hit away from being swept in Texas. The bottom of the order can't hit,the back of the rotation sucks and there's a tense clubhouse.Ahh,just like the old days..

National League Standings
LAD is 70-48 1st in NL West
STL is 67-52 1st in NL Central

don't tell me that the dodgers have won all their games against under .500 teams!

ohhh and don't get me wrong, after the cards, the dodgers will cool down,
in sept dodgers will only face under .500 teams, (time for some spring training)

even though the cards have been a huge rival in the NLDS, most likely we wont face them, I hope we face the wildcard. hahahahaha:D

Well, the Dodgers don't have any superstars aside from Manny, but their lineup 1-8 really has no weak links. You've got a bunch of guys that'll hit .280-.300, get on base, hit 20-25 homers, pick up key RBIs. Kemp, Ethier, and Loney wont scare the pants off most opposing pitchers, but they've produced so far this year. Unlike my Giants who have way too many easy outs in their lineup.

I'd say the same is true with their pitching. Billingsley, Kershaw and Wolf have been above average to very good, but the rest of the rotation and bullpen has been solid enough.

I'd rather have a team that's pretty solid from top to bottom than one that's overly-dependent on a couple of superstars.

The NL West is weak? It's the strongest division in the NL this year so far.

Teixeria is going to be in the MVP running.

That doesn't mean anything when it comes to who the best hitters are, he is maybe in the top 10, but definitely on the lower part of that list. He is grossly overpaid and overrated. Justin Morneau plays just as good D as he does and has just as good of a bat, better in some regards and worse in others, and he does this without the price.
