Wait, didn't we have someone in hear say that the Dodgers were the best team?

Their lead in the NL West is down to 3-1/2 games. Rockies keep on winning.

What a huge series this weekend, with the Giants coming in to Denver. Unfortunately, Coors Fields is a house of horrors for the Giants, but they absolutely need to find a way to at least split the four games. I'm not getting my hopes up...

I sure didn't. They haven't been playing like a top team in quite some time. On the bright side, this was a slump that was bound to happen at some point in the season. No one in their right mind could think that they would maintain a 104-win pace for the whole season, since it's pretty obvious they aren't that dominant a team. And if you're going to have a long slump, I'd rather it be after already building a decent division lead and with plenty of time to get it together for October. They've had some bad luck with close games and in extra innings, but they were also overachieving in those areas earlier in the season, so it's evening out.

On the other hand, a slump is a slump. If it gets so bad that they lose the division lead entirely, then all bets are off. They still have to turn it around soon, or they'll have choked away the entire season in one month.

The Mets are good at it too.

such a shame they won't be able to do it for the third straight year, since they are 9 games under and double digits out of a playoff spot (elimination number is 30 btw). yeah, the braves stink too, but we don't blow 7 and 3.5 game leads with 17 games to go in the season, we actually made the playoffs (but usually lose in the first series).

When is somebody going to call out Minaya for some of the signings he's made in the past few years?? He must have pictures of somebody...

3 innings pitched so far in his first start as a Cardinal and Smoltz already has 7 strikeouts. I wonder how long it'll last.

He pitched flawlessly yesterday
Unlike Beckett. Maybe the Sux should trade back for Smoltz.:p
In related **** pitching moves by the Sawx, they may get Billy can't pitch for **** Wagner off of waivers.

Enough of this Red Sox/Yankees ********:rolleyes:Try watching the LLWS,now thats baseball:D

GO PHILS...:):):)

johan santana may not pitch until 2011. the mets have nobody left, i think citi field is cursed, and i'm starting to feel sorry for them.

but this again proves that you can't buy a winning team, as the second highest payroll is in 4th and double digits under .500.

First of all who is Wagner to demand anything, he is a washed up pitcher. Second why do the Red Sox want him, he is a washed up pitcher.
NEW YORK -- Billy Wagner wants to be a closer next season, regardless of which team he's on.

That's why the New York Mets reliever says Boston must guarantee it will decline his contract option for 2010 before he would approve a potential trade this week to the Red Sox, who already have an All-Star closer in Jonathan Papelbon.

"I don't want to end my career as a set-up man," Wagner said. "I'd like to have that option."

Wagner has a no-trade clause in his contract, which includes an $8 million option for next year with a $1 million buyout. If his option is declined, he can become a free agent in the offseason and sign with any team.

Wagner confirmed Monday that Boston placed a waiver claim on him Friday. The fourth-place Mets have until Tuesday to trade him to the Red Sox, pull him back off waivers or assign him to Boston for nothing in return.

If the Mets pull Wagner back, they can't trade him for the rest of the season. If they let him go to Boston, the Red Sox would be responsible for the nearly $3.5 million owed to Wagner under his current contract.

FoxSports.com reported late Sunday that Wagner's agent, Bean Stringfellow, had another condition for Wagner to accept a trade to Boston: He wants the Red Sox to guarantee they won't offer Wagner salary arbitration this offseason, thus making him more attractive to potential suitors on the open market, because those teams wouldn't have to give up high draft picks as compensation for signing him.

According to the FoxSports.com report, Stringfellow said Boston rejected both demands.

He could be decent second lefty option out of the pen after Okajima. But this isn't going to happen. The Mets are going to want a decent prospect (I think I heard top 20) in order to trade Wagner. But the Red Sox won't give up that good of a prospect for a six week rental if they're not going to be able to at least offer him arbitration to get the draft pick compensation.
