Which probably won't happen.... ;)

I predict the NLCS will be Cards vs Phillies, and unfortunately, I think the Phillies will win.

Count on it...:D:D:D

Home of the World Series Champions;););)

hopefully garland can help boost the dodgers!

If Giants win the wildcard, they will beat their first round opponent

I wouldn't count on that at all. The Giants may have a great starter tandem, but St. Louis does too. And Philadelphia is the best hitting team in the NL.

If those three teams and the Dodgers end up in the playoffs, it's really a crapshoot. Any of them could have a great couple weeks and go all the way.

The Phils pitching isn't to shabby either (Lee,Hamels,Blanton and Happ) and how can I forget Pedro/Moyer;)

Peace

Nice win for the Sox last night..The Trop has always been a house of horrors for the Sox..What happened to all the Ray's fans??World Serie's runner up, you're fighting for your playoff lives in a playoff type game and only 17,692 people show up??Many of which were Sox fans..What a bunch of bandwagon frauds.

GO PHILS !!!...

what makes u think i like manny!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????? (a lot)

i don't get excited when he goes up to bat! all the time, (okay maybe when we r set up for a grand slam!)

but i don't even keep track of ur players, the only player i know from phil;)

is the subway commercial guy.... ryan howard.:D

Brad Penny just threw eight shutout innings in his Giants debut in Philadelphia. He even had a couple of strong at bats.

I was thinking the National League just suits him better, or perhaps Dave Righetti was able to find a flaw in his mechanics. No matter, I'll take that kind of performance out of the fifth starter's slot any time.

NLCS FINAL

dodgers vs cards: winner dodgers! :D

Uh, no, I don't think so. The Dodgers have been playing poorly lately and the Cardinals are on a roll, they've only lost 1 in their past 10 games.

If the Cards win today and the Dodgers lose, they can no longer claim the best record in the NL. And if they keep choking the way they have been, they'll be fighting for the wildcard.

And I still think Manny is a disgrace to the game.

i saw this interesting gem at wsj.com today about chatty announcers. some of you may be surprised at what announcers talk the most. i thought chip caray talked all the time, but there are plenty of announcers that talked more than him.

also, if the rockies win today, the natinals will be officially eliminated from the playoffs. we're getting close to the end folks.

So it is nothing to do with the pitchers sucking it is just that the Red Sox don't know how to use them?

Hah! I am not at all surprised that Duane Kuiper is the "quietest" announcer. He's always been a pretty laconic guy, but I've been very impressed with his improvement as an announcer over the past 10-something years. Mike Krukow fills more of the dead air, but even he isn't exactly a blabbermouth by baseball announcer standards.

In general, Giants fans have been spoiled over the years by the announcing teams. It wasn't always that way: I grew up listening to such mediocrities as Lindsay Nelson, Ron Fairley, and Gary Park. I still miss Hank Greenwald quite a bit, but Jon Miller was a more than adequate replacement, even if their styles are quite a bit different. Kruk and Kuip have really blossomed as a duo -- they were almost painful to listen to when they started out. Dave Flemming is a young guy with a lot of potential, and I hope the Giants hang on to him for the long term. He also does an excellent job calling Stanford football and basketball games.

How did Mike Shannon of the Cardinals not make the list? He talks nonstop and I think he's drunk half the time as well. Makes for an interesting listen.

I think Vin Scully has gotten a bit chattier over the years, but unless he really gets riled up about something, I don't usually find myself thinking that he's talking too much. He is extremely good at stepping aside when a dramatic moment happens, as witnessed by the fact that two of the most famous moments that he called (Hank Aaron's 715th HR, Gibson's homer off Eckersley) are usually shown in clips with the other announcer's call instead. It especially annoys me that we usually hear Jack Buck's call of Gibson's homer because Buck fills much of the time mentioning himself.

The description in that article was slightly inaccurate though. Scully isn't the only announcer in the Dodger booth, he just calls games on TV (and the parts that are simulcast on the radio) by himself. Most of the radio broadcasts and east coast trips on TV are called by other pairs of announcers. So it's not like Scully is the only one they have, just that he works alone when he's calling a game.

I was thinking the National League just suits him better, or perhaps Dave Righetti was able to find a flaw in his mechanics. No matter, I'll take that kind of performance out of the fifth starter's slot any time.

More likely he just got more comfortable getting out of Boston, where he'd had enough bad outings to turn the whole fanbase against him. I think he was just able to relax in a new environment.

On the other hand, I think it's a matter of a blind squirrel finding a nut. Penny hasn't impressed anyone since his 2007 season in LA. Last season the Dodgers got tired of his crappy work ethic and his hiding his injuries from the coaches. He was a fine pitcher before that.

Don't even think for a second, the dodgers will be the wildcard team, the giants are in the bag!, the dodgers only have pittsburgh, giants, and rockies, left in the rest of the season. We will be victorious in the NL WEST. and NLDS.

and for manny, well i really don't care, he is just another player...;) the man is getting old, can't even run fast. lol

Maybe this will jog your memory...:D:D:D

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH EVIL MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D

That describes Brian Sabean's recent track record to a T. I still think he and Bochy ought to go, though I would not complain if the Giants made the playoffs this season and they got new contracts. Results are what matters most.

And I might have to take back my earlier call for Carney Lansford's ouster. He's actually trying to preach the importance of patience at the plate (not that the guy took many walks during his own playing career) and situational hitting, but many of the Giants' older hitters (Uribe, Rowand, Molina) just have a long-standing lack of plate discipline. I think the message is starting to finally get through to Pablo Sandoval, who is obviously Lansford's most important pupil.

[Edit] Well, tonight's game proved to be another point of evidence that Bochy should be let go. Weird lineup to start the game (Rowand batting eighth? Really!?), a typical unwillingness to call for Renteria to sacrifice after Velez led off an inning with a double, and a very dubious decision to go with Fred Lewis as a pinch hitter in the top of the ninth. In the end, the Phils only scored three runs in the entire series but won two out of three games. Sigh...

I just got home from tonight's game:) Playoff atmosphere:D The Bank was a ROCK'N... Two Cy Young winners going head-to-head. Great game...
Sorry dude, tonight the better team won:)

Peace

The Yankees will have to do something about Joba and the 5th starting position if they want to contend in the post season. If they will lose in the postseason, it will be on their hands, IMHO. As much as a great job as Hughes has done in the bullpen, he needs to be the 5th starter. Joba can go to the setup position. So who will replace Joba is the question? CC, Burnett, and Andy are starters that probably won't blow the Yankees chances for a WS run this year. It is Joba and Mitre.

I think too much is made of a few of Sabean's horrible mistakes (the Nathan and for Pierzynski trade and some busts of Free Agent signings) and not enough credit is given for building one of the best young pitching staffs in recent major league history. It's easy to criticize Sabean for trying to win at all costs when Bonds was still with the team, but while that led to signing and acquiring some folks who hurt the Giants in the short run when they didn't work out (Benitez and a few others,) it is also true that throughout that period he poured resources into pitching. It has finally paid off in a big way. Add onto that the development of some young position players (Posey, Crawford, Villalona, etc.) in the minors and you have a pretty damn good record, imho. The starting rotation and the back end of the bullpen mean a team that can compete for years to come - baring injuries, knock on wood (Kerry, where are you?)
