world series: rays defeat cardinals in 6

I don't see the Rays getting that far this year, I think it will be a let down year for them. They will still be good but not as high as they were last season.

I do see the AL east as a 3 team race. Who wins what depend on who remains healthiest.

I'm with you, I think it'll be a three team race, but I don't see the Rays going as far this year. I think we differ in who we want to win the division though. :p

A new season begins, every team hopes for the post season. It's the best time of the year, Opening Day.

Play ball.:)

For some dumb reason (probably broadcast related) the Dodgers season opener in San Diego was scheduled with a 4 PM start time. Maybe they thought people on the East Coast would want to watch it.

The only west coast game on ESPN is in Oakland and that starts at 9 est. Are they attempting to get everything finished by midnight?

Maybe they are scheduling around basketball tonight.

I haven't checked the Angels schedule but it's possible that they wanted both games to be broadcasted on the one FSN HD channel. Why we have only one HD channel for baseball never made any sense to me.

world series: Yankees defeat Cubs

For me, the big deal is the Giants make it back to .500 and fight it out with the D'backs for second place in the West. I think the Yanks bought the Series in the offseason - horrible, but true.

How 'bout dem O's!!

Sure it's just one victory, but if only for pride's sake, it was a great game. Great to see Sabathia chased away. Great to see Teixeira go 0-for. Great to see contributions from so many.

Does the same FSN channel have a monopoly on both teams?

No, some of the games are shown on other channels. Not many. What I don't get is why, with space for 900 channels, FSN still has only the one HD channel.

Good first game for the Dodgers though. They beat Peavy for only the second time in many years, and for the first time ever at San Diego. Not sure if I entirely believe it, but according to the radar gun, Jon Broxton threw several pitches clocked at 100 MPH. Accurate or not, those are really tiny baseballs (as Vin once said).

BTW, our own hometown LA Times predicts that Arizona wins the NLW. Thank you LA Times.

then why have the yanks gone almost a decade without a ws win?

I didn't mean to say the Yanks haven't blown a lot of money in the pursuit of another World Series ring over the last decade, but rather that this time I think they have succeeded in spending enormous amounts of cash that will actually payoff with a WS victory. Much to my disappointment. I HATE the Yankees almost as much as I HATE the Dodgers. ;)

I'm getting way too much like SI here. Soon I won't be available at a newsstand anywhere nearby! :p

Other random predictions: The Padres look awful and I'll be surprised if they don't unload Peavy. The Tigers will have a fire sale. The Rays will be good, but come down to earth. The Cubs will win their division by the largest margin. And a team we don't expect will announce that they can't afford to compete any more because of the economy.

Stupid Giants! Why did they have to squeeze in an extra exhibition game and start the regular season on Tuesday? Now they're likely going to get rained out.

The Mariners are another likely candidate for a July fire sale. For sure Peavy will be moved, but probably to a team outside the NLW.

I expect one of the 3 contenders in the AL east that needs help will make a run at Peavy.

I expect one of the 3 contenders in the AL east that needs help will make a run at Peavy.

He will have a huge market when the time comes, but the issue as it was over the winter will be what the Padres demand in trade. Also complicating the issue will be the no-trade clause in his contract and his desire to remain on the West Coast. He also probably won't be the only quality pitcher available before the July trade deadline. But probably this discussion should be held off until July. ;)

Peavy would be awful in the AL East. And none of the Sox, Rays, or Yanks would need him anyways. They all have ace prospects waiting in AAA (Buchholz, Price, Hughes) if they need more depth.

Great debut for the Yankees $300 million free agents yesterday.. 6 runs for cc in 4 innings and 0-4 for teix.

I knew you'd go to town on statistics of the first game of the season. Basing the opener on our investments and ignore the 161 games remaining. Brilliant.

Now that I moved to Marlyand, I can no longer watch Yankee games...

So I sprung for MLB.TV and so far it's effing brilliant. HD Quality Games. The image does get slightly pixelated on my 15" MBP Screen when put in Full Screen mode, but otherwise glorious.

Currently watching Dodgers take on the Padres :D

You can always get DirecTV.:p

Why bother watch the Padres. They will probably lose.
