I would be pretty bummed now if I was a Cubs fan. Losing both the tie breaker and wild card when they could have been on the top of their division.

You're right. The bats went cold again at the wrong time, but this happened throughout the season. What's amazing is that they somehow managed to win 95 games.

Yanks... :)

Now on to the big, bad, and mean team from Bean Town... If the series is anything like the regular season series these two teams had, it should be an interesting series.

You would think so but often the series people look forward to fizzles.

I predict some blow outs and the series determined in four games.

Watching the Boston / New Your game last night it was almost like watching the Tigers for Boston has a lot of former Tigers players. I guess I should not be surprised with Dave Dombrowski being the President of Baseball Operations for Boston. However, my favorite former Tigers player is Justin Verlander, so Go Astros!!!!

So is Boone catching or even Cashman (for hiring him) heat for the failed season? I believe everyone expected the yankees to dominate the division, and go all the way to the WS. Since neither occurred, Boone with zero managing experience, and no track record may be an easy target for fans and management to vent their frustration. I mean he benched Andujar in game 4 and he's probably going to be winning the rookie of the year

I can see the Yankees giving Boone a pass for the first year of managing. I can't say that he did a terrible job (won 100 games) but I can't say that he did a great job either.

Cashman stacking the offense with homerun hitters didn't help either (i.e. one dimensional offense). I'm also not sure of the strategy of stacking relief pitchers (the Yankees would have done better getting starting pitching).

I hope Cora gets the manager of the year. I think he's the main reason why the Red Sox have done as well as they have this year.

The thing is, anyone could probably have gotten a hundred games with that team, so we really don't have a good test on how well he is as a manager yet.

Yeah, no question, I think those he's a product of the times. home runs is what everyone is after right now and so he's just following the crowd so to speak. That doesn't excuse his failures to improve the bullpen.

Had Judge not missed most of August they could have won the division. But that doesn’t excuse losing to horrible teams like the Orioles. Win the games you should win and things would have been different. They did rely too much on the home run and not enough small ball. That said the Red Sox ran away in a horrible division. This is why I say their 108 wins in inflated and I think Houston is the better team.

I'm hoping the Brewers can beat the Dodgers, its nice to see a small market franchise compete like this.

Ha, really? I know your a NY fan, but you're really stretching on that. August 15th they were 10 games back. There's no way the Yankees were going to win the division, with or without Judge.

I don't think the Yankees were the only ones captivated by the allure of the home run. I agree that you need to be proficient with the small ball, especially as you come into the playoffs. You need to be able to manufacture runs. I think some of those finer things of the game are disappearing.

You're biased against the red sox, you can't take anything away from winning 108 games, just like you can't take anything away from the yankees winning 100 games. In both cases, it was an incredible feat.

I think Houston is the better team.
They are the world champions and as such, its up to the Red Sox to prove they're the better team by beating them. Only time will tell.

The AL East was maybe the weakest division this year. It was the Red Sox, Yankees and everyone else. Yes the Rays made a late run but it was essentialy a 2 team race. You could argue that both teams had over inflated records. The 98 Yankees were by far the best team with 125 wins. While the Red Sox won 108 and the Yankees 100 if they don’t produce in the playoffs it means nothing. Look at the Mariners in 03. They won 116 but nobody remembers it. To me the Astros are still the complete team and even if the Yankees were to meet them they were not beating them.
