I was surprised to hear that the Giants traded Yaztremski, then I learned that he was about to become a free agent. Thanks, Curt Flood, you ruined the game for fans who love their team's best players like they are members of the family.

Yer right. And I want to be wrong and I apologize because I feel like I've drug you into this conversation before.

I'm venting anyway. I'm just ticked that we got rid of Yaz.

I hope all is well.

I'd Love for him, Devers, to become a potent offensive threat for us. Honestly, imho, it's our ball park and it's locale.

Some of our fans seem to love "triples alley", not me. All that denotes to me is that our park is too big and home runs die out there.

No need. Yastrzemski was about as close to a fixture as they had in recent times, and a team player.

I don't think Devers will really pay off, if he does, until he starts fresh next season and feels comfortable. Obviously someone whose mind has a lot going through it, which can interfere with performance and doesn't make him an adaptable player who can just step in, ignore distractions, and perform.

The park is a pitchers' park, but that wasn't an issue during the winning run. They couldn't get over the hump when they had arguably the best HR hitter of all time, and if Posey is as smart as he's reputed to be, should know that won't work, nor the the string of pricey free agent slugger types they tried before the run.

The team needs to develop a strong, young core, to form a rounded team, like they had, and Posey was a big part of. Lead by a wise manager.

That will take time.

From Sunday vs the mets:

Little dude must've collected 30 fist bumps... in a Mets jersey!

I think Devers can thrive at Oracle. Homers are easier to hit to left field, and Devers' opposite field power really plays. He's also not strictly a home run, strikeout or walk type of hitter, so he'll collect his share of extra base hits.

I'm going to miss Yaz a lot. Truly a Forever Giant. The hard truth is it's better for the club to save the money and look at other options in the outfield, and I'd rather see the team improve than be stuck in a sentimental loop.

He was my fave - Got to see him play here with Vanderbilt too - I feel he's going to be a journeyman unless he finds a park he suddenly hits for average and power in.

Yaz is who he is. He is literally a journeyman, on a good team he's a 4th OF, at best. Contributes in a lot of ways that don't show up in the stat lines and WAR calculations, but still a fairly limited player.

Meanwhile, the Giants are still crashing out badly. After an embarrassing series sweep at home to the Padres, with Wednesday's game being especially bad, I no longer think that simply changing some of the position coaches is enough. Buster Posey has to make a big call on Bob Melvin.

100% agreed.

I'm still not sold on Devers.

And I'm definitely not sold on this team.

4 more wins guys... eke out 4 more...

Well, there are too many teams in the northeast, but climate change will take care of that eventually. Then maybe it won't be so convoluted to do it geographically. It would be reminiscent of the old days when the Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Giants played in the same league and city. Of course, not many who are alive today experienced that. You'd have to have been born in, say, 1948-1950 to be old enough to be a fan following the teams and stars of that era, which was about to be changed dramatically.

saw on twitter that Apple will no longer have friday night baseball after this year and just ran into this post

It never really caught hold, I watched a couple of games during their first season, and it was horrible, the announcers, and the coverage. The only saving grace was some of the metrics they display was nice. The past couple of years the quality of the announcers/color men improved but I really saw no reason to watch the games on appletv.

The bozos who vote didn’t think Rickey Henderson belonged in the hall of fame. For the life of me, I don’t know how that’s possible.

Rickey is the best all around player in the game’s history.

MIL vs DET World Series... Just saying...

Who are we kidding, it's going be the bodgers vs astros all over again.... meh!
