Does anyone pay for mlb tv package? I got a strange email about it being through ESPN now?

Why is that, especially given how MLB has been so displeased with ESPN's baseball coverage.

I have a free one and ended up buying the cheapest one last season.

I'm not going to purchase one this season

Thanks for responding. My confidencee is low on this. I absolutely hate how sunday night baseball is handled, I know its a different animal, then letting us watch any out of market game, but I don't trust espn
But all of this is temporary. 2029 all the media rights come up for bidding. That is probably when the price will really increase/more paywalls added.

I may be in the minority but for years, I didn't understand that MLB Network was different from MLB.TV. The Network is something I have with my cable package through Comcast/Xfinity. The MLB.TV is apparently entire games out of network and costs more. I happen to like the way the Network does it. They dip in and out of games, occasionally running an out-of-market game (usually involving the East teams in both the AL and NL which is fine with me). The nightly show has Greg Amsinger, Harold Reynolds (meh) and Dan Plesac (who is exceptionally good). I'm more than happy to keep this going again in '26 and see no need to add the streaming service MLB.TV. Oh and ESPN is terrible. They seemed to be on the verge of getting out of the business of baseball by way of treating it terribly and having some of the worst broadcasters (Eduardo Perez) elevated while dismissing their best (Jon Miller). Ultimately, they glommed onto a face-saving measure that only keeps them in the MLB business because they're afraid of having someone else swoop in and doing a better job at it, and then not being able to capitalize on baseball's sudden popularity.

Yes, if you want out of network games, you needed to subscribe to mlb.tv. Football has the same thing, and I suspect MLB saw the success of the NFL, they copied it.

So if you're a fan of Phillies, and live in Boston, then the only way to watch them is by way of paying for subscription.

I really enjoy watching small market teams, like Milwaukee, detroit, etc, and so it was something worthwhile for me. Also for years I felt that John Kruk was a great announcer though I think last year he had health problems and wasn't in the booth as often.

I'm on the fence to renew my sub this year, and if it was tied to espn unlimited, then I'm definitely out.

Yeah, I subscribed to ESPN+ just to get the tennis grand slam coverage of all courts and matches (except for the French which had been NBC but flipped to TBS/HBO last year). Anyway, this year all those grand slam matches were moved to ESPN Unlimited. So, I was ticked off! Why do I pay for ESPN"+ for that one thing and you pull the rug out from under me right after I renewed my yearly subscription. ESPN seems to be in the business of screwing people and not interested in serving the sports fan. It's like what would happen if a three-card monte game grew up to run a cable channel. You think you found where the right card is and lay your money down. Ooops. Sorry, you missed. You lose. You want to go again? No thanks. Lesson learned.

What to make of the news that Tony Clark is resigning from MLBPA apparently - if you believe Marcus Semien who is quoted in the Athletic - because of the federal investigation into the misuse of licensing fees for 'personal enrichment. Every one of us who follow MLB know this is not a good thing for union headed into what appeared to be critical negotiations and an almost certain lockout should the discussions not end in a new CBA. Angels pitcher Brent Suter, a member of the executive subcommittee is also quoted in the article saying "the ship is strong"

That to me conjures up one of the greatest quotes in all of sports history namely "The ship be sinking" by NBA player Micheal Ray Richardson in 1981 to describe the struggling New York Knicks.

MLBPA needs a Marvin Miller type....fast. Someone who can unite the players and talk sternly and honestly about the players positions. The most vocal players are not doing them any favors. I'm thinking of Bryce Harper running his yap, yelling at Manfred in the Phillies locker room to get the f- out if Manfred wanted to talk salary cap, and then getting into a beef with the Phillies chief Dave Dombrowski because he labeled Harper as having less than an 'elite' year. It's too bad Harper is the loudest public voice for the players he simply runs too hot and comes across as self-absorbed. Ohtani doesn't speak English to the media, Judge is not a table thumper and players like Freeman or Bettes are all smiles and sunshine. Can anyone serve the role of speaking for players at this critical moment ? I'm open for anyone to offer a name or two (?)

looks like it was an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law

Tony Clark resigns as MLBPA director after internal inquiry

Major League Baseball Players Association executive director Tony Clark resigned Tuesday after an internal investigation revealed an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, who was hired by the union in 2023, sources told ESPN.

Yeah, I know but what does it mean for the new CBA negotiations? The financial shenanigans are the major impetus and the personal stuff is just the ewwwww (dirty laundry) aspect of the charges. I don't care about that.

If - like me - you simply want baseball to not to have a strike regardless of if you're pro- or anti-salary cap, I think it's probably good! MLBPA needs to be run by a brass-knuckled labor lawyer not a likable ex-player rep who told the players what they wanted to hear. Tony Clark I believe was just Dr. No. The players need to hear some hard truths about the existing structure of baseball contracts. The tv audience and attendance for 30 teams in markets where half the teams are out of it by Memorial Day doesn't work anymore. The interim MLBPA president is Bruce Meyer and he is a skilled negotiator. Again, that’s good. These negotiations need both sides to fight hard but to know how to get to a deal before the deadline. That means compromise. Both sides know it. I think Clark simply doesn’t understand how to deal. He thinks it would mean getting rolled and would only bend after the season had been lost and the players demanded an end. In short, the worst time to make a deal is when the pot is smaller.

Patrick Bailey is the best defensive catcher I've seen on the Giants in nearly 50 years of following the team — certainly the best since the immortal (ha!) Kirt Manwaring. Like Manwaring before him, he's offensively-challenged. Would love to see Bailey achieve a bit more consistency at the plate to come close to match his work behind it.

100% agreed.

Ha, the Angels are so sorry that they won't broadcast any spring training games this year! So I have to catch them on teams they're playing who's broadcasting them!

Where I lived for 20 years so got to appreciate their efforts, especially in 2021.

In Wisconsin now, but way closer to the Twin Cities than Milwaukee so sort of a toss up here.

Not the biggest fan of recent rule changes but can understand why they made them. I mean, I still sort of miss NL pitchers not batting. Anyway, best of luck to all the teams (except the Dodgers... just kidding).

I have for several years. It is our family's favorite "tv package". From what I understand You can still subscribe to the MLBTV like before, but now be able to watch in the ESPN APP. But if you haven't been a previous MLBTV subscriber you HAVE to sign up for ESPN Unlimited and MLBTV. You get 1 free month of ESPN Unlimited and can then cancel if you want and keep MLBTV. Of course this may change next year. You can also buy local team coverage now for many markets that are blacked out. I hope ESPN doesn't screw it up.
I absolutely hate that everything seems to be going through the ESPN app now, and the ESPN app is complete garbage. I speak from experience since I get the Hockey stuff and it's not good at all. Why did all these sports leagues succumb to ESPN. I usually get the MLB.TV package, but I'm wondering about the T Mobile deal. I am glad this year I can still watch through the MLB app.

Why did all these sports leagues succumb to ESPN?

Starts with M….ends in Y…

They talk about the reach and the widest potential audience and growth but really it’s all about the do-re-mi.

Jurikson Profar late of the Atlanta Braves, has been suspended for all of 2026 due to his second violation of PED use. At least now I won't have to listen to Trevor Scales' unique pronunciation of his name this year on SportsCenter.

When does T-Mobile normally offer the season for free? I've been a T-Mobile Customer for years and never seem to get it, I end up paying for the season
The free signup this year is the week of March 24-30th. If you download the T-Life app onto your phone they'll remind you about it until the signups begin.

Ballplayers from the D.R. who made it to MLB used to say that there was an expression back home that conveyed the hyper-aggressive nature of hitters "You don't walk off the island". In short, if they had a noticeable weakness it was they would swing at damned near anything and needed to learn the strike zone. You could watch hitters become more discriminating once they made it. That was a strike last night. Absolutely you have to protect the strike zone at that point in the game. The Supreme Court of baseball in a unanimous decision denies the writ of appeal. The decision of the Umpire stands.

Yes I agree, but when the hitter is on my team, I still cringe when he fouls off ball four, especially with the bases loaded.
