On ASB, yes they might be restricting the missed challenges to keep the game moving, but the delay it causes per instance is less than that for a pitch count violation. The number of ABS challenges could be expanded without adding much time to a game. As far as ABS leading to a de- emphasis of framing by the catcher: meh! I have always considered that to be an urban legend. I have witnessed it being effective at a little league game when the umpire was a teenager. I don’t think it influences a professional umpire. Many will disagree with that, and this is fine. I won’t be changing my mind.

I saw this on FB and couldn't resist 😛

The Johnsons really are the root of the problem, but the Giants are such a cash cow for them despite the middling results on the field — they're not going to let go.

I really do believe in Posey and Vitello though. IMHO they just need a little time... and better players... lol

I don't believe in Devers. Overrated af. Even though it's still very early I'm not expecting much from Hader.

Adames same boat

They are all underperforming right now, but I also never thought the team's ceiling was very high this year. I expect they'll start hitting a bit better overall, but the bullpen isn't very good, and the rotation past Webb and Ray is iffy.

Maybe Daniel Susac is the savior.

It was Soler vs Lopez last night. I hope this isn't a recurring theme of the season, the league will have its say of course.
I watch a jomboy video, and he implies that Lopez's lack of English was the contributing factor, i.e., Soler asked did he throw a head shot on purpose, and his response could be interrupted as an incredulous/sarcastic reply but Soler took that for admittance.

Looks like Soler got a 7 game suspension, and Lopez 5 (which for pitchers may be just 1 game). I'm not sure why they ding'd Lopez when it was Soler charging the mound.

Apple TV's MLB coverage is still not very good, but nice to see the Giants' bats come alive in Baltimore last night. Woohoo three game win streak.

As I was watching the Red Sox vs. Cardinals last night, I noticed the St Louis catcher was framing every catch, i.e., a low ball was raised to be into the strike zone. The Issue in 2026, is ABS, batters can appeal, and umpires seem less likely to be fooled. The catcher was framing like crazy (as the starting pitcher started having control issues, but nothing came of it, AFAIK

I always questioned the validity of this, since the catcher is behind home plate, the umpire is behind him. The Ump is looking at home plate and he has to see him raising his up, but his attention is in front of the catcher.

They all do that though. All the time unless the pitch hits the mark. Does the ump fall for it is the big question.

For the first time ever in my life i don't have a favorite player on the GIANTS ...

I don't even like this team. ugh.

😕🙁

Yadier Molina was probably one of the biggest framers.

In some ways, I think it might have worked at one point, but I think at this stage, all the umps know and generally don't fall for it - at least that's what I'm telling myself.

See post #127 - starting almost in the middle of the post
Ahhh, I missed that - my apologies. As I said, I think thanks to Molina who is a HOF catcher, don't get me wrong but he was one of the folks that did it the most. I'm hoping with the ABS, we'll see this foolishness recede

Yadi was a monster framer. It didn't matter most of the time, but sometimes he got the benefit of the doubt in close calls. I guess that's one of the privileges of being a HOF-level player.

Bring back Joc Pederson? I remember he was quite the fan favorite with his pearl necklace for the Braves in their 2021 run. Eddie Rosario was also liked with some clutch AB's down the stretch, but he didn't show up until mid-season so maybe it's still too early to have a favorite on the Giants just yet?

Interesting take on whether MLB is slamming the door on something that seems rather new with pick-offs

I saw the game in the first half where Altuve was picked off at first partly because the 1st baseman juked and was off the bag, the second game the umps were not letting that happen a 2nd time and called a balk on the 1st baseman

Thought?
