Yeah, I agree with that Gregg, I'm usually grinding my teeth when I see that, but the down-side of the close-call bat-on-the-shoulders scenario is what you got. Risk/reward in that instance mandates you have to swing to foul it off at best. Pitcher made the pitch he needed to make, you as the batter have to do likewise.

What did people think of the Netflix broadcast?

For me, I'll be kind and say that I hope live sports remains a hobby for Netflix, and am glad that radio is an integral part of the game.
I've yet to read or hear anything positive about it.

The Red Sox are off to a good start… I just saw that Roman Anthony reached base 4 times on Opening Day, becoming just the 14th player aged 21 or younger to do that. He’s in some elite company, including Ken Griffey Jr, Mickey Mantle and Joe Mauer.

I'm disappointed that the Cubs dropped 2 out of 3 at home against the Nationals. But, it's a long season. There will be some highlights too. Meanwhile, the Brewers swept 3 at home against the White Sox. No help from the southsiders!

First week under our belt and the red sox are looking really bad. Baseball is a game of streaks, and with 162 games, its more of a marathon, then a sprint but with that said, its got to be worrisome to see how poorly they're playing

To be honest I only follow the Red Sox sporadically. In fact I watch a lot less sports these days than I have done in the past. Whole weeks go bye without me watching the television at all…

What's everyone's thoughts on the ABS?
Well, since the top and bottom of the strike zone has been formulated as a percentage of the batter's height, I have no idea how the umpires assess where those are for each batter. ABS is useful for pitches that do or do not nip the outside or inside corner, but the system leaves umps guessing on the height.

I'm not sure that I like the two incorrect challenges and then you're done aspect. But, it's a start. I imagine that will be tweaked at some point.

I think that's there to keep the game moving, otherwise, we'd get challenges left and right. Keep winning the challenges, you get to keep challenging the call. This will be particuarly helpful for really bad umps.

ABS - I don't like it. I'm in the minority for sure and it puts me in the pro-ump category which I am not (especially CB Bucknor). But I think having a somewhat flexible strike zone is one of the things that makes MLB unique. It's not tennis where if the ball is 99.95% out it's 100% in, the strike zone however is being treated like that. De-coding where the strike zone exists on any given day is a skill that everyone playing that day needs to determine. Catchers also will de-emphasize 'framing' skills. Veteran pitchers who 'earned' a certain let's say malleable strike zone won't get it. All of these things make the game more human and more like real life. Handing over this aspect to technology in addition to video replay on safe/out fair/foul calls is a bridge too far. We're now past that and not going back. MLB which comes out of our pastoral origin as a nation of farmers is a game of AI just as we are. And the game like us (like we humans) are sacrificing something basic to our nature, the imperfection is being lost. Yeah, I guess having a screw up like CB Bucknor and retaining the right to forgive him grants us the idea of bestowing grace on those who have trespassed against us.

I like it. Maybe even love it.

In a sport that is loath to change, unless it makes them more money, it is good to see, way overdue, and much needed. Games shouldn't end, or be decided on, bad calls. It's always to good have fail safes.

Just ask Armando Galarraga and Jim Joyce.

Normally I am, but when you have the likes of angel hernandez behind the plate, his horrendous game calling is all but game altering. If the umpires were more consistent and accurate I'd say its an unneeded addition to the game, but some calls are so bad that its

Take comfort in knowing the Giants are even worse this season, judging by the results of this weekend's series.

We did not cover ourselves in glory that is for sure.

Our pitching is pretty weak IMHO.

We still can't hit.

I'm one of the few who isn't all in on Devers.

He doesn't impress me.

I have no proof, but I feel like he's a clubhouse cancer guy.
