I thought Phillies initially when I read of his termination. They are definitely underperforming and could use a shakeup.
Seeing how they've been playing my knee jerk reaction has been that their world series window had closed. They still ahve some great talent, but maybe not enough. Maybe it is just a coaching problem, but they're 9-19 and are tied with the mets for last place.

Rob Thomson is out as Phillies manager. Don Mattingly is the interim.

I can't say that I'm surprised, given how poorly they've performed this year. This might be one of those situations, where they try to move on Cora before anyone else can

Cam Schlittler is making the delayed return of Gerrit Cole a lot more tolerable. Hell, he might be the #1 starter even after he returns.

They clobbered us last night. 7 - 0

I know it's early and they're destined for a fade (pitching will be their undoing), but this "rebuilding" Cardinals team has surprised me. And Jordan Walker is finally living up to the hype. If they finish above .500 that will be a win this year.

I'm glad to see the Cubs alone in first place! I hope it lasts for more than one day! The NL Central is so tight, and although it's early, I expect that to continue for at least 3 teams right down to the wire. It should be an exciting race.

That was an impressive win against the Dodgers last night. Two out ninth inning four straight hits by the Dodgers and tying run is in scoring position. Nobody panicked and did something stupid, which you often see in these types of ‘crunch’ situations, especially against the current Champions.

Whether you loved him or couldn’t stand him, we lost a legend today-

Always loved Sterling even when I rooted against the Yankees, something I rarely do. Now I just root for the story. Each year is a different season. But, grew to appreciate the Yankees and Sterling epitomized their whole swagger. The city, the fans all of it.

And he signed off when they won a lot more often!
Well, in baseball a .555 winning percentage will get you close, or perhaps in the Wild Card round. That's a 90-72 record. In baseball, only in baseball, that's a lot. 😉

I imagine that in his career, the Yankee's overall pct. was a bit higher than that. Of course, in my construct, that means he was not fine signing off more than he was. All I mean by that is that his over-the-top "Thuuuuuuuuuuuh Yankees win!" was way too much for me, besides not having any redeeming qualities.

Definitely not a fan of Luis Arraez's game. Empty BA, no power, bad defense. I thought this type of player became obsolete by the mid-80s.

Thankfully the deal is only 1 year. I still have some hope that Casey Schmitt can contribute.

20/20 moment:

Imagine what the SF offense would look like if they hadn't signed him…

I've been overly critical as well.

He's become one of my few faves though...

I don't know how the Yankees won yesterday with their 5th starter being scratched last second, but they had no business winning that game.

They called up Spencer Jones yesterday. Some people say he's like a speedier, lefty Judge. We shall see. He's been tearing the hide off the ball in AAA.

Yeah, Arraez has been very good. Even been playing solid defense. Mea culpa, then.

At least I was right about Casey Schmitt.

Very interesting that Buster Posey traded away Patrick Bailey. They could not afford to carry his .396 OPS bat anymore, and they have a couple of stronger hitting catchers on the roster in Susac and Rodriguez (clutch game-winning hit yesterday!). I want to see more accountability for underperformance.

Same.

I believe we are headed out of the forest...
