As soon as Wifi was off and my phone was restarted, it started working. Anyone techy understand why this might fix it?

My only guess would be the phone is confused and trying to send the message over wifi, which it cannot do. MMS has to go through medianet and medianet cannot be accessed through wifi. What really gets me is....It doesn't matter whether I turn wifi on or off, mine works.

what settings and stuff do you have?
i was able to send mms earlier while wifi was on, and now i can't. and now i can't send at all. I really don't understand why.

What really gets me is, regardless of whether I've got WiFi on or off, mine doesn't work.

I have tried every single method/option/idea listed in this thread (and others) and nothing I have done has gotten MMS up and running. Multiple calls to AT&T have ensured that I have MMS enabled and provisioned for my phone and everything is set up on their end. I've tried restoring from back up, every ipcc I can find, basically every possible stupid method, and nothing is getting it to cooperate. I'm stumped.

What do you mean, my wifi settings? Or MMS settings?

1) MMS? No
2) GB? 8
3) Location? Southern Kentucky(no 3G service at my home)
4) Plan? Family plan with unlimited texting on all lines
5) Restore? Restored from backup
6) Edit any files? Edited the Tethering once, then restored again to test MMS.

ok i am assuming that those of you who have mms working have xcode because you are using the 3.0 Beta. Can you attach your iphone, go into xcode>Devices>Console and send an MMS and see what it says? I'm getting a 403 forbidden error even though i now have the unlimited messaging on my account. essentially my iphone i blocked from sending mms because it is an iphone. also if you can see what proxy is being used. my phone is trying to send through wireless.cingular.com:80

Here's what my messages look like:
<Notice>: MMS: sending request to mmsc
<Notice>: MMS: proxy wireless.cingular.com:80
<Notice>: MMS: binding to context 0
<Notice>: MMS: open completed
<Notice>: MMS: sent 164227 of 164227 bytes (100%)
<Notice>: MMS: connection completed
<Error>: MMS: MMSC response = 403
<Error>: MMS: responseStatusLine = HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden
<Error>: MMS: no response from MMSC

I'm getting the exact same thing. I called earlier and had ATT switch me from the iPhone unlimited text plan to the standard unlimited text plan. I'm pretty sure they did it because I went to check under messaging and it says

"Due to the recent change to your data feature, we are unable to display usage information until after your next billing cycle begins on ...."

So either they did set me to the standard text plan or they changed something else on my messaging plan. **Update: I just checked my features, and I am definitely on the standard text messaging:

I have tried turning wifi on/off, turning airplane mode on/off, rebooting the phone, restoring as a new phone, restoring from a backup and tried both 3.5 and 5.0 IPCC's and no combination has worked for me yet.

Ok so I have a 8GB iphone 3G (duh!) 3.0b2. I'm using the ATT 3.5 ipcc (gives me tether), I also have the Family unlimited texting.
I called AT&T and the guy switched my account to have MMS on. He did tell me that maybe when the billing system goes through and checks the accounts it may turn the MMS off. Anyways after he did that...it did not work. I tried and tried and tried and it didn't work. So today I tried again and nothing lol. Well I went ahead and put my sim card into an old unlocked tmobile razr. I tried to send an MMS and once again nothing. I tried a couple times actually and it did not work. So I said screw it, I'm going to send a regular sms and stuff and see if maybe I can trick the system. So after doing that I put the sim card back in my iphone ( I didnt even restart it) I tried to send an MMS to myself and it worked!!!! It's been working ever since...with wifi on off doesnt matter. Just wanted to give my story...maybe it will help someone.
A friend of mine is going to try just putting in his sim card into another phone and send SMS and make calls and then see if he can send MMS without having to call AT&T. I'll give an update on the result.

That's how it's supposed to be, right?

We have 3 phones on our family plan, I have the only iPhone.

1) MMS? No
3) Location? huntington beach, Ca.
4) Plan? AT&T unlimited messaging. the generic plan
5) Restore? No. from scratch new
6) Edit any files? tried 3.5 ipcc and 5.0 ipcc

Got the plan changed via the sim swap into an old phone trick. But no go as of yet, but at least on AT&T side i should be good.

I may try fresh install start over to see if it works, I have messed with the ipcc files and stuff.

Ok, my MMS is officially INTERMITTENT. It seems to work on and off every hour. I have no idea what's going on.

from all the data we have it is obvious that anyone on a Messaging Unlimited Family Plan can get MMS to work. Thanks for all your help anyone who is on that plan, but it isn't going to help those of us on individual plans.

i have switched my plan to non-iphone unlimited messaging and i am trying to send messages through my old Treo 650. I've changed my AT&T account to show that i have a Treo, but still no luck. It looks like one message sent, but it was never received. I think i'm going to leave my sim in the Treo over night and see if things change.

look at my post a few up, I even posted a screen shot of my details; and I have the right plan turned on. But it still don't work. So NOT everyone.

hrm that's odd. honestly i feel liek i have read every post on the matter and you are the first person with family messaging who hasn't had it working in beta 2.

in other news it did start working on my phone. i guess it just took some time to start working through the network, but i just sent myself 3 picture messages and received them.

just as i was perusing the new posts, I just tried mine again outta the blue and it worked.

it took a couple hours though. I had changed my plan at the time of my last post, around 7pm pst. but i just sent one to my GF on verizon and one to myself.

I did happen to reboot my phone and as it was shutting down it vibrated a lot, like 10 times so i think it finally reconnected to the network and updated itself for all the past mms i had tried to send lol.

again my settings:

16gb white
Huntington Beach, CA
text plan: generic ATT unlimited (achieved by putting my iphone sim in an old treo 650 for a bit ((just called a couple numbers and used the web browser on my treo)), then signed onto att.com and changed my plan from iphone unlimted texting to ATT unlimited texting.

nothing worked so i rebooted a bunch, and nothing, so i left it alone for a couple hours and tried again and no dice, but one reboot later it worked.

hope this helps.

Now Working

Ok...I lied, I decided to try one more time to get my MMS working...not that I use it...so that I could continue with beta testing.

My activation was actually pretty simple.

I went on to my AT&T account and switched the iPhone to the Treo 650 and waited about 5 min.

While I was waiting, I switched the SIM to the Treo 650 and turned it on.

I logged back on to the AT&T account and the Treo was showing.

I made one call to my wifes phone and sent one MMS to my sons phone on the Treo.

The MMS did not send and showed error in the screen.

I called AT&T and told them that I had switched the SIM from my iPhone to my Treo because I needed to send MMS and the iPhone did not allow it. I told her that I needed to provision my Treo so that it would send.
She said that it was already provisioned and asked what the error message was on the first MMS. I went to look and it had sent while I was talking to her. Using the Treo she had me send another MMS to myself (on the Treo). It sent but took a few minutes to recieve. So AT&T did nothing to my SIM/Phone. I did not at anytime bring up that I was a beta tester or using 3.0 Software...just not necessary...Honesty is the best policy.

I powered off the Treo took out the SIM put it back in the iPhone and powered up.
I went into AT&T and switched the phone back to the iPhone.
Sent an MMS to my son and a few minutes later was recieved.
He sent one back and I recieved it about a minute after he sent it.

Can I get the link to the Original carrier file? (3.5) I installed the 5.0 and I got MMS to work for about an hour, then it quit. Im going to see if it works better with the original ippc file.

Thanks

There is a link to one on the first page, but it is not the original, it activates tethering. To get the original just restore (shift + restore) from a back up, a back up doesn't back up the carrier settings so it will restore them to the ones shipped with the beta 2.

Was able to send a picture to my sister on Verizon

Edit: tried again today and is no longer working. I only got it to work on April 1st. Hmm.

Mine was not working, and then I contacted AT&T and had them switch me to a standard text plan that includes MMS and now everything works properly.
