Mockups Imagine What Apps Might Look Like on iPhone 8

That first one (and the last one I suppose) made me think "what a lot of wasted space, having a whole row just for the clock", but then I thought they can put the previous app link there.

I know there's some evidence that strongly supports at least one of the new iPhones will have this general screen shape, but I really hope the notch and rounded corners don't happen. They're just such a huge compromise and constraint from a functional standpoint.

Shoehorning software designed to fit into a rectangle into odd shapes like this is so tacky/hacky/clunky/janky.

Surely this cutout is greatly designed to work well with dark mode? I've seen no mention of dark mode. Could this solve the cut out looking a little over the top?

Is there a reason why there needs to be a notch in the middle, couldn't they just raise it on the upper lip area and provide more screen real estate? The phone looks smaller already than the Plus size so it's not like it'll make the phone more cumbersome.

People are not getting it aren't they... Having a virtual home button defeats the whole purpose behind them removing the physical one in the first place. What good would a single static circle do other than waste space (space that they freed up by removing the physical button). No Good! I honestly think Apple is going to take either of these two routes regarding the "Home button" situation.

1- No "Virtual Bar"... (Gesture Based)

-Going "Home" will be done through a 3D touch gesture, which can be something like force touching the middle of the screen and pulling downwards.

(I suspect that this could be a strong possibility based on the fact that Apple removed the ability for the user to enter multitasking using the 3D Touch gesture in iOS 11, preventing accidental activation by the user)

-Going "Back" and "Options" will be done normally (Pulling from the left of the screen/ a dedicated options or share button)

2-No "Virtual Bar"... (Power Button Based)

-Same as before but with the utilization of the power button into the equation.

---

I see no reason for Apple to remove the home button and then replace the thing with a virtual one with a couple of extra buttons on either side, it just doesn't make sense.

Apple didn't get rid of bezels like Samsung.

This phone has reduced bezels.

Please Macrumors stop saying it's bezel-less
I'd rather have this with more space top and bottom than Samsung where the display falls off the edge and you can't even see what's over there. It looks cool until you use one and realize it's just poor design that does nothing but grab attention. Maybe they've fixed it with the newer ones but the first ones I tried had icons, the clock, etc going off the side of the display. It looked real bad.

There's a few things I don't get from this new (leaked) design.
The ugliest things are the top notch and the rounded corners especially on the bottom. They just make no sense, too hard to handle UX-design-wise and not "clean", as Apple design has always been in the past.
There's something we're missing here in the puzzle. I do hope they will surprise us with something that will make us look at this awkward thing as something unpredictably brilliant!

Everything will be squeezed into the two gaps on either side of the notch, but I believe Apple will remove either of these to make it work.

1- There will be no clock in the status bar. (You can access it easily from the NC or by going home)
2- There will no "Carrier Name" (unless it is required by law or something...)

The so called "revolutionary" 10th anniversary iPhone, should have a behind-screen camera for FaceTime (saw a patent apple filed for that back in 2009, 8 years ago), and some kind of engineous solution for the audio and other sensors to be hidden.

I was really hopping for a real edge to edge screen! That thing on the top is hideous... Steve would never allow an iPhone like that! But that's just my opinion... I mean... the richest company on the planet with billions to invest in research and we get that... thing..

Or, you might be able to press either one of those items and they'll toggle to show the time. And you'd be able to customise the corners and choose what's displayed by default and what gets toggled.

a phone with real edge-to-edge screen should be more than just hiding the sensors and camera/s. it should also be made with a very durable glass without compromising weight and price too much. one drop and, boom, shattered.

I don't think it already exists now. maybe someday. who knows

The "no notch" with rounded corners looks the most visually pleasing to me. Having the status readouts against black on either side of the notch makes perfect sense and keeps them off the main screen. I hope that's the implementation.
