If he really wanted this to gain traction, he should have created a 3D model that lets you scratch them so you can see what the jet black earphones would look like in real use.

Apple does white for a reason. Everybody makes black headphones. My current wireless headphones are black. I wouldn't mind black but not accented with gold. Yuk.

Makes you wonder why Apple didn't include this color scheme

Because the OCD crowd would wear cases to avoid scratches and would look like:

Apple needs to hire this guy. Bring in fresh blood. Too much group think at Apple these days, I suspect...
Why because he can photoshop a color on to an Apple product? Let's not forget this guy also envisioned an aluminum Apple TV with chamfered edges and a remote that looked like a skinny iPhone 5. There is nothing fresh about what he does.

iStraws are going to be a laughing stock! Can't wait to see the first person caught wearing these in public!

"The black color looks beautiful"
"Oh man, these are great. Take my money"

"Apple does white for a reason. Black looks cheap."
"The black color looks ugly"

"Gimme silver"
"Rose Gold please"

Choices. People like choice. If the pods take off, I'm pretty sure they will be color matched shortly thereafter.

Why? Why does black look better, especially when Apple's headphones have always been white? Seems like people are giving this a thumbs up just because Apple didn't do it.
Or maybe people are tired of white.

I guess I'm not the target for the jet black finish, but I just don't see it as a particularly impressive color scheme. I guess I'll wait til I see one in person but I'm just decidedly meh on jet black.

Yikes.
Gold or Rose Gold Airpods.
How guady.
With respect to the person who took time to mock up the black AirPods, they aren't on brand, plastic looks cheap. In fact, the white AirPods look cheap today. I think the Apple brand is moving on from plastic. I'd much prefer to see mock ups in metals or ceramics.
Solid rose gold:

The classic white EarPods are recognizable from a distance. People see those and the automatically think, iPhone/iPod. That's free advertising. Apple won't change those cause they're a marketing company first and foremost.

Wow, the new phone is released in a few days and this is on the front page?

I think all the comments so far indicate that having a choice would be the best idea. Choice of colour, choice of trim colour. Personally I prefer the black to the white, but I prefer the silver trim to the gold trim.

Not that I'd buy these in any colour, as I think the whole concept is an overpriced over-engineered solution to a problem of Apple's own making. But I understand some will like and want these, so for those people, I hope they get options for the colour of them in the future.

Posted about this the second they veiled the pods.. they should have added at least the black colorway.. but could easily add other colors into the mix too.

Since when did BLACK plastic become a new invention? Its not "jet black" its black shiny plastic, like you find on so many accessories and household appliances all over. The only unique thing apple managed to do, is making it less durable. Emperors new clothes is what it feels like when apple takes something we seen a 100% times before and calls it something new.
