What's the IMAP work around?

Setup your account as other
We were able to delete the account and them re-add it as an IMAP account as follows**.

User name: full email address

Incoming server: imap.gmail.com

Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com

yep this works thanks all... nice workaround for the time being until Apple/Google resolve issue...

I updated to Mojave 10.14.4 yesterday and all seemed good. This morning I woke up to most (5 of 7) Gmail accounts "offline" and prompting for login credentials "in Safari".

I went through the process of entering email addresses and passwords, and the accounts are still offline.
Whenever I try to take them online, I get prompted for the logins again, but they won't come back online.

Rebooted twice, but no go.

What did Apple screw up on Mail with this update?

Same problem.

Since updating my Mac to 10.14.4, I have not been able to access my Gmail using the Mac email client. I can access my iCloud email but not Gmail. Here’s what I have tried so far.

Deleted the Gmail account and reinstalled.

Reset my SMC and my Pram.

Set up a new administrative account and tried to access Gmail on that account using the native Mac email client.

Reinstalled MacOs

None of this helped.

I installed the Thunderbird email client on my Mac and have been able to access gmail with no problems. I can access gmail on my iPad and iPhone with no problems.

Apple chat tech support had no solutions other than reverting to 10.14.3

I just filed a bug report.

Have you tried the manual IMAP set up? It works a treat. Just need to generate an app specific password server side and your G-Suite email accounts will work. Good temporary measure until fix is released.

In previous MacOS versions, adding a Google account would display the Google login page within System Preferences. In 10.14.4, adding a Google account causes Safari to open. Why do we need this additional complexity?

Furthermore, the Google login page to appears in the bottom left corner of the screen. This is further proof that Apple engineers:
1. Assume that everybody uses a 12 inch MacBook as their only display.
2. Assume that people who connect external monitors position them so they are always looking directly at the bottom left corner of the screen.

Below are examples of working with applications and Finder windows on a MacBook Pro laptop screen, then connecting a 30 inch, 2560x1600 monitor as the main display. Documents or application windows that were in the center or the top left corner of the MacBook screen are vomited into the bottom left corner of the 30 inch monitor when connected. Furthermore, some applications such as DVD Player put windows in the bottom left corner regardless of the monitor resolution. I first noticed these issues in Yosemite 10.10 and they continue to this day. I have never seen an operating system handle window positioning as STUPIDLY as MacOS.

How do you generate an app-specific password for a Gmail account?

I have to accounts (own domains) with Gmail for the mail - both went offline, but only one will revert after re-login with 2FA, the other (my business account) just loops in failed auth :-s

Thank you Tim Cook...

F*** your iToy company

Edit: 31. March. I tried to re-authorise via System Prefs -> Internet Accounts (open Safari) and this time it stuck for the non-working GSuite account.
I also noticed that it saved the Oauth token to my Keychain - which it had *not* been doing the past week, so something was fixed somewhere in the web chain...

Same problem here. Mail.app won't login to Google Apps/Suite accounts.

Oh well. Until this gets fixed we can read some magazines or play games ...

Yep, Apple took off and nuked my gmail from orbit with this update. Apple has achieved effed-up update parity with Microsoft, yay! Each change is a fresh opportunity to leave your machine a smoldering crater. Thanks, Apple.

I was just now able to manually add my broken custom domain/G-Suite address to Mail by doing the following:

1. Delete account from System Preferences -> Internet Accounts
2. Open Mail -> Preferences
3. Click "+" and choose the "Other Mail Account..." option
4. Follow the steps here to generate a Google App Password: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en
5. Enter in your email address and the new App Password
6. Voilà!

This problem seems to be only affecting certain G Suite accounts. The IMAP workaround is a good stop-gap until Apple and Google can figure this one out. Add your frustrations to the Apple support page below to maybe get some speed on it.

Thanks, but that won't help. Apple reads and interacts with those forum pages about as much as they do MacRumors, iMore and the other Apple-centric forums. And the @Applesupport account on twitter is equally as useless... constantly throwing knowledge base articles at you when you report an issue.

Spent two hours on the phone with Apple and finally ended up sending my logs to Engineering.

THIS IS INFURIATING. It's also affecting iOS 12.2-- I can't re-add my GSuite email account on there either. I guess Macrumors doesn't find this newsworthy enough to create a front page story though...

Yeah I feel like Macrumors should post about it.

After in installed the update it asked me to re-authenticate my Gmail & 2 Suite accounts. I use two-factor on all of them tho and had zero issues in doing it. Haven't had any issues at all.
I wish Apple would support the Gmail API instead of using IMAP still. A lot of issues would likely be resolved if they supported it.

Yeah, really infuriating. 2 out of my 3 gmail accounts won't work even with the IMAP workaround. Thankfully, iOS 12.2 is fine for me.

The instructions on the Google page say to enter the app password in the password field in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > (account) ... but there is NO password field after updating to 10.14.4. Apple really screwed the pooch on this one.
