I was just now able to manually add my broken custom domain/G-Suite address to Mail by doing the following:

1. Delete account from System Preferences -> Internet Accounts
2. Open Mail -> Preferences
3. Click "+" and choose the "Other Mail Account..." option
4. Follow the steps here to generate a Google App Password: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en
5. Enter in your email address and the new App Password
6. Voilà!

Jona, do you know if deleting the Gmail account from Internet Accounts will also delete the folders in Mail under "On My Mac"? I'm worried that deleting my Gmail account will cause me to lose those folders and the many emails in them.

This is happening for me too... and even worse, the ones that "work" always display "authentication failure" every time my Mac sleeps. I have to quit Mail and re-open it to get them to connect, or click each connect icon individually.

I would like to add more to this problem. This problem occurs not only for gmail.

I find the same problem for tmall.com and IFTTT Workflow login too.

For tmall.com, it is strange that using Private Window solves the problem. I did not test this with IFTTT Workflow login.

I updated to Mojave 10.14.4 yesterday and all seemed good. This morning I woke up to most (5 of 7) Gmail accounts "offline" and prompting for login credentials "in Safari".

I went through the process of entering email addresses and passwords, and the accounts are still offline.
Whenever I try to take them online, I get prompted for the logins again, but they won't come back online.

Rebooted twice, but no go.

What did Apple screw up on Mail with this update?

I have Gmail and use Mail with 10.4.4 and it works fine.

The issue is for paid G Suite email accounts. Presume your account is a normal Gmail account?

My GSuite accounts are working just fine on 10.14.4 Just had to re-login the day after the update. But I have two-factor enabled on my Suite accounts, so I had to put in the extra 6 digit code when it prompted me. Haven't had any issues since...

I use Google hosted email (G Suite I guess?) for my business and it stopped working after the update. I deleted & added the accounts and I still have the issue. I was going to do an OS reinstall but now I see this is a bug due to the update. Do you think we can expect an update anytime soon? This is super annoying.

I also keep seeing this error message:

CdLCTZE.png

I have multiple G Suite hosted domains, and noticed the change the morning after the update.

In my dialogs, ""(null)"" displays the actual, correct email address. And the handoff to Safari (which, by the way, is _not_ my default browser (I have Choosy handle links)) went without a hitch.

I support hundreds of enterprise users; fingers crossed this is a Gmail account specific issue that only bites the unfortunate with cursed G Suite accounts. Otherwise our help desk is gonna be busy next week...

The confusion here, is it looks like Mail is asking for your Gmail password. But it's not. What's happening is that Safari is asking for your Mac login password, in order to allow it to provide your Google password from Keychain.

So to fix it, you just need to type in your macOS password - not your GMail account or google one.

This worked for me on both my Macs...

This is not even close to being true. Read the prompt when it asks for the password in Safari... it clearly asks for the password for the gmail account. It's bad enough that the issue exists without being compounded by incorrect advice.

It worked fine for me :)

1. The box popped up in Mail saying "Enter the password for the account xxx.gmail.com", with the buttons 'Cancel' and 'Open Safari'

2. I clicked the 'Open Safari' button. It went to the 'Sign in with Google' page in Safari. It tired to auto-filll my gmail password (from Keychain), but it couldn't access it- instead it popped up a box asking for my password.

3. I entered my Gmail password, but it kept failing - until I realised that this box wasn't asking for my Gmail one - it was coming from Safari, and asking for my Keychain one. Once I typed that it, everything worked - and continues to work.

I wish I'd taken screenshots :(

You were putting in the wrong password to unlock your keychain. It didn't unlock because you were putting in the wrong password. It is functioning exactly as intended and has nothing to do with the issue being discussed in this thread.

I had to do this too. Didn't bother me, I think it's a good idea to have to re-verify your Login ID every so often. Took may 15 seconds and now it's good to go again.

The issue isn't (having to) reauthorizing your account credentials... it's the fact that thanks to Apple borking the process, it doesn't work for all accounts - especially the G-Suite based email. That falls squarely on little Timmy Cook.

It appear Google have done something on their side to fix this now. The normal way of adding and authorising the account is working again.

I still think this was Apple's mistake, but Google were able to do something to workaround it.

Thanks for the heads up. I was able to add my GApps account and it has stopped prompting.

I can understand your frustration, but that is simply not true. My Gmail-Account works fine with Mail and Calender after the 10.14.4 Update.

And until whomever released whatever behind the scenes this morning, it did not work for some of my accounts... so my statement was correct: it does (did) not work for all accounts.

lol I guess you know more than Apple, because I've been talking back and forth with Apple Engineering as they tried to address a problem that they themselves acknowledged was real. So they'll be glad to know that we've all made the problem up!

(but yes, I'm also happy to report that it seems they've made a server side fix!)

Confirming here, too.

Those having issues, try to authenticate now. It should go through.

Someone made a change, and it conveniently didn't require a software update.

Phew.
