Not when you can get a PC that has better specs, more ports, more featurs, etc than the Macs at 1/3rd the price.<snip> A hobo off the street could have pulled off a better notebook update than this. Steve Jobs = Genius

This guy is a troll I think.
Just took a look at his other posts. He joined last month.
Constantly saying why buying a different brand is better and how stupid Apple is.
https://forums.macrumors.com/search/?searchid=12908056

To be fair - his initial posts one month ago spoke about buying a Mac for the first time, then said he wouldn't. Looked genuine then.

Well, I'm sure that display is the new dock. But why are the new MBs at the $1300 price point SLOWER?!!?!?!? And no 17" model really sucks. They'd better come out with it soon (even though I'll probably pick up a 15" model anyways). I'm hoping for at least before Christmas. Oh, and I was also sort of hoping for a speed increase for the $1500 MB as well.

Perhaps there's no entry-level MB because they weren't selling too well? Sort of how they killed the 160GB iPod Classic?

No matte screens... I really think for a professional machine they need to be given the option.

Although I prefer the glossy screen for games and DVDs I really wouldn't want to design on a machine with a screen like that...

Actually, that's why people who also use their laptop at home usually hook it to an external monitor, a real mouse and a real keyboard... There is just no substitute for a real mouse, a real keyboard and a 24" monitor...
No substitute for a proper docking station either, except there isn't one ;) This makes life very easy with my work laptop which can drive my 30" monitor.

Hopefully apple is not stupid and will have a matte option, but if not Steve is seriously jeopardizing their sales to photographers etc. :(. I think I would happily sacrifice the proposed Blu-Ray drives for matte . Well I want to see what other people think about this and their experiences with colour and light reflections on glossey [I will also search the forum so no need to point me to any links], I'm certain its just apple haven't really tested any with the matte so people are asuming there are none. We have to remember we still don't know anything for definate till later today.
I think Apple argues that video/audio/graphics/photo/print professionals are so hell bent on hating Windows that they will keep using Macs no matter what, so they focus more on consumers who want high-end products. The MacBook Pro has become the MacBook My-Parents-Have-More-Money-Than-Yours at colleges, and now they're taking it one step further by turning it into the MacBook My-Parents-Have-More-Money-Than-Yours-And-Look-How-Shiny-and-Slick-It-Is.

Not to mention that the numpad is used as transport control in nearly all music applications like Cubase, Reason etc. Those are hopeless to use without a numpad.

Apple is done. Only way I'll buy is if the 15" current MBP price goes down to like $500 with a student discount or refub or something. I still should probably go PC . They have a better future for a creative artist than this toy devolper called Apple. Vista isn't the best, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about the GPU possibly killing me anytime I used the computer. Bill Gates is still a G too. If Microsoft comes out with a nice O/S they could shut the door. That's all Apple has going for it and people aren't going to pay 5 times the price just for that. P.C gets a nice O/S and 1-5th the price of these maccrooks with better specs, better ports, etc ? Game over. Everything was wide open, but Apple really threw up a "brick" with this update. Now hopefully they can get out of the computer biz and stick to making their cheap plastic toys.

6 hours to go and the truth will be told. i wouldn't hold out too much on these latest rumors, and im skeptikal about the macbook pro pic, and why would apple only release a gloss screen for it pro model? thats going to annoy too many of their customers. lets wait till the keynote and then we will all be the wiser minus the rumors and then the real moaning can begin:D

That's exactly what I do. Numpads on external keyboards are cool, but on a notebook it starts looking really gross really quickly. Also, where do you put the trackpad then? Do you shift it left of center like all those awkward looking PC notebooks?

The new trackpad is similar to the Air’s, in that it is bigger and supports additional multi-touch gestures. But unlike the Air’s, the MacBook Pro’s new trackpad is made of glass, and is a button itself. You just press and it clicks.

I can see the annoyances with accidental mouse clicks already....

LOL! This is funny! All these people crying over a glossy finish....

I said it twice already I'll say it again:

IF YOU ARE A REAL PROFESSIONAL YOU DONT DO COLOR CRITICAL WORK ON A LAPTOP SCREEN

It doesn't matter if you're a PROFESSIONAL or a MORON or a HAMBURGER salesman or ANYTHING, if you don't like glossy, because it's a stupid stupid STUPID fad then this would make this rumour pretty unpleasant.

I for one, have 0 interest in not being able to see what's on my screen due to stupid reflections, just so some company can try to sell a product because it looks 'slick and shiny'
It was stupid when Sony made the Vaio's like that and it's stupid when any company does it, period.

If I purchased a laptop from Dell, Apple, Sony or any company and I was silly enough (doh) to find it came with a glossy only option, I would return the unit as faulty as in my opinion it is _un-usable_ period.

Stupidest trend the industry has ever latched on to, ever.

15" LED resolution

Don't know if some one ask this already,

But anyone know what the resolution of the 15" LED MBP will be?

Thanks

Same here. Actually, I don't see the point of the BR drive... It's not like software will stop shipping on DVD anytime soon...
Other than that, BR only purpose is to watch high definition movies. Movies at definitions that will be useless on a 17" screen anyway. And movies with encodings and data throughout that will most likely drain your battery like crazy anyway.
If I really need to watch a BR movie on the go, I will just rip it and store it on the hard drive... Less noise and more battery life this way...

An maybe, mate, you should go get a PC, if that's what makes you happy, get off the MAC/APPLE enthusiast website and then go and cry in your corner...

I'm going to bold and increase the size of my question this time so maybe someone will notice it:

Engadget claim that the new MacBook Pro will have "two full-on Nvidia GPUs", what exactly does this mean? They've updated their article again saying that John Gruber has confirmed that "all new MacBooks -- regular, Pro, and Air -- will feature the new NVIDIA 9400M GPU -- the 15-inch MacBook Pro (the 17-inch will remain unchanged albeit with 4GB of memory and bigger 320GB disk) will feature a second 9600M GT GPU making it a true graphics powerhouse".
Why exactly would having a 9400M and a 9600M GT make it a graphics powerhouse? Will GeForce Boost be enabled? Because otherwise, only one card can work at a time, the best being the 9600M GT, which is a 6 month old, low-mid-range graphics card that under no circumstances can be called a graphics powerhouse - it will only bring about 2 or 3 fps improvements in games for example.

What am I missing? GeForce Boost? Is that it? Will the 9400M be able to assist the 9600M GT?

My guess is, the 24 in cinema display that will be announced today will also be glossy and look like the iMac. Apple seems to be doing away with matte displays (which is a shame for folks who need them).

Well if there is a depression then all you "professionals" are going to be looking for work...coz the second thing that gets cut is advertising (slightly after the coffee machines and water coolers).

LOL, do you think that the only people who are "professionals" work in the advertising industry?:rolleyes:

I can see the annoyances with accidental mouse clicks already....

I can too... But if apple sets it to click at just the right pressure so it's not too easy to click and not too hard then it could work really beautifully.

3 years ago I'd've said - don't worry Apple will get it right... Now I am saying - hmmm we'll have to careful with that idea...

Mmm, i haven't got anything against glossy screens, but i do prefer the matte screens tbh.
Buying a last (current) gen mbp would be stupid since I don't wanna risk having a laptop that could explode whenever i use it :)
But the next gen mbps look disappointing.

Ah well, guess we'll have to wait for the official announcement within a few hours. This is just rumour talk anyway

Most people love glossy screens.<snip>

LOL, no - just no.
SOME people like glossy screens, most people I know who actually have a glossy screen were disapointed with them when they got them unwittingly - some end up liking it, some convince themselves they like it and some outright hate it.

It's defective, period - the product is unusable, it's like putting some kind of weird stylish foam over your speakers for aesthetics but in reality it stuffs up your sound.
Ridiculous

The first image (the open macBook/pro whatever) seems to be genuine, if you download the image and open it with preview and go to tools -> inspector to get the image details, it says that the photo is shot using an iphone it also shows the GPS loation where it was taken (somewhere in CA), but no details are available for the second image showing the closed notebook besides the box so the second one might be photoshopped
