What about windows XP/ Vista Drivers Support for this "Hybrid SLi" VGA? and power commutation?

I think that people using boot camp will have a lot of problem real soon....

Anyone thinking the same, or just me?

Well, I think that this won't be Apple exclusive feature, so Nvidia probably has Windows drivers ready for it.

This Could Be Why...

Just had a thought...

Maybe the laptops are all glossy screens BECAUSE...

...Apple wants those who really want matte screens to get the new Cinema Display which would be in matte (or as an option).

Also, there will be no 17" Macbook Pro at the event because it does not dock with the new Cinema Display. The event will be centred around the new laptops and how it docks with the Cinema Display to be the ‘hub’ of your creative life.

Glossy designers

Hell people, this isn't even about 'designers' or graphics editors, someone brought that up 8 pages ago and some glossy fanboy decided to rail on it, as if it's the only defence the 'matte lovers' have.

No, just no - I don't design graphics at all on any of the machines I use but I do play games, I do use several completely black websites, I use dark terminal windows, I watch on occassion movies or TV shows with dark scenes (BSG)

Glossy (in my opinion.....) is vile, it is filth, I can not emphasize to you people just how much I loathe it, I absoloutely hate it, I hate it with a passion, it is without any doubt in my mind the dumbest idea I've ever EVER seen in my life! It astounds me constantly that people would ever defend it.
Now I've whined about a lot of things in my time on this here internets, let me tell you, I'm a whinging bast....... but glossy screens take me to a whole new level.

I have NO problem with it being an option, if you people want it, awesome - get into it, enjoy it, love it (although as a tech, when I fix your computer, be prepared for me to whinge about it) but any product sold in glossy only is effectively useless to me.

I mean a dead pixel is annoying but even those you can sometimes stop noticing them and get over it, but glossy is there to stay, it's like that mole on that guys face in Austin powers - you simply can't not notice the damn thing.

In conclusion, glossy displays are faulty, they have been manufactured with a defect, direct from the research and marketing team fiddling with things they shouldn't, they are designed for people who casually use a computer and don't sit behind one for 12 hours a day

Oh and for the record, I do NOT use my laptop or my desktop outside, ever - but every, single glossy display I've encountered is STILL too shiny, I do not want to see ME when I'm trying to damned well read something.

I can only guess those of you who actually like it are looking at bright, white content ONLY all day long.

Here's a random dark picture for you glossy users, have a click.

How do you like looking at yourselves, you're so vain, you probably think this post is about you, don't you?

The first image (the open macBook/pro whatever) seems to be genuine, if you download the image and open it with preview and go to tools -> inspector to get the image details, it says that the photo is shot using an iphone it also shows the GPS loation where it was taken (somewhere in CA), but no details are available for the second image showing the closed notebook besides the box so the second one might be photoshopped

Second photo can't be real. Black, matte flush boxes for Pro products. That box is shiny like the current MacBook boxes.

Well actually... they are moving away from Matte so you never know!

blah blah blah no matte screen

if you don't like it don't buy it. simple.

Is Apple making a marketing/financial decision with these screens? Matte screens don't sell, except to the vocal few in this forum? Are they more expensive to make and hence lower margin? Anyone know?

A = GPS location embedded in the MBP glossy screen picture.

B = location of Apple Inc. HQ.

You can bet your ass I will be one of the first people here to buy one of the new MBP's!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

So I would be expected to carry a display with me along with my MB? Really, really? Are you sure?

Mate I'm with you, unfortunately english is not my mother tongue son I can't exactly explain how much I HATE glossy displays. Worst invention ever.

So, in essence if the rumours are true:

1) The MacBook increases in price by $200 (or doesn't drop in price)
2) The specification changes slightly
2a) Loses Firewire
2b) Gains NVIDIA integrated graphics
2c) Gains NVIDIA discrete graphics with GeForce Boost, etc
2d) Probably has larger HD, etc
3) Gains an aluminium case
4) The low-end remains untouched, plastic, drops by $100, probably retains the combo drive

Ah, looks like I'm sticking with my iBook for another year then. The big rumour was that the MacBooks would get cheaper by a probable $200. Instead Apple has gone for the boutique market-share-restricting option.

Now comes the dilemma.

Do the prospective 15" mbp buyers buy the new pros (if the specs stay exactly as have been rumoured) Or do we go on a mass refurbished hunt and HOPE when our mbp gets shipped that its matte not glossy (on the website it says you may get either)

Is $400 worth a better graphics card and new shiny things?

Why in 200+ post has nobody talked about the weight issue? A mbp already has some heft to it when carrying it around for long periods of time, but a mbp with a big sheet of glass in it will be VERY heavy... and the glass has to be fairly thick to keep from being too delicate...
Apple needs a surprise event since the last few have been lackluster, so maybe this is a case of them just pouring out false rumors except for a few select bits of true info (multiple gpu sounds promising) as a way to wow everyone today...
but let's talk about this weight issue... and this rumored huge battery... once again HEAVY!!!

The amount of misinformation in this thread is staggering.

Reread the article. And then come back and tell me where it says the MBP will have a "sheet of glass."

A = GPS location embedded in the MBP glossy screen picture.

It's very interesting that Google Earth gives an entirely different location (one well outside Cupertino) than Google Maps does for the location of that photo, since we're both using Latitude and Longitude to find the location.

I think this just shows Google isn't really a reliable place to practice cartography.

That's the one I'm trying to confirm. Can a 9400M GeForce Boost a 9600M GT? If not, then this will be a massive underwhelm-fest, if so, then the graphical power of this MBP can be considered high end for sure.

I feel sorry for all you suckas who don't like the new MBP! bwahahahahahahhaahahahhahahaha

I'd really love to know why all of you people hate glossy so much? What's the big deal?

My girlfriend is in her third year studies of graphic design and she's using an iMac 24" at home for all her work. It's glossy and she doesn't seem to suffer from it being glossy? What in fact is there to hate about a glossy screen? I just don't seem to get it all.

Besides she's also in the waiting game like all the rest of us to update her iBook with a new MacBook. And I'm looking to buy my first Mac Notebook! A 15" MBP please. One that will also be capable to play Starcraft 2 / Diablo 3 at high quality with decent fps. And for the rest I'll use in combination with my M-Audio musical equipment / dj stuff.

I hate glossy screens. I work in design and advertising and have done for many years. So your girlfriend doesn't mind? Maybe she's no good.

Your tone is very insulting to all those people here who know that colour representation on a glossy screen becomes wildly inaccurate. A non-glossy screen can be bad enough for true colour matching. Glossy just doesn't work at all.

Get yourself a Pantone swatch book and compare the colours with their screen counterparts and you'll see how ***** it is.

I have to say im pretty gutted if this rumour is right.

I sold my 2.26ghz MBP while it was still worth more in hope of upgrading to a more powerful cpu and now it seems the baseline is 2ghz.

i think he ment this...:
"e "buttonless" trackpad which is made of glass. "

It's those jerks on the International Space Station messing around with the GPS satellites:D

Well, I think that this won't be Apple exclusive feature, so Nvidia probably has Windows drivers ready for it.
And even if they don't, XP/Vista will simply have a lower autonomy what with the 9600M chipset not disabling itself when not required (which is the current situation). Not much of a "real problem" if you ask me, a minor annoyance at best.
