What the hell are you talking about? How in the hell did I insult those in 'interactive'??!! I never even mentioned you. Neither did I attack or insult anyone for liking damn glossy screens.

If you want to have a pop pick on the right target next time buddy.

Mostly I used the word insulting because you did previously. But in reality your statement said that guys girlfriend might be no good at her job for liking glossy screens. I'm not saying I do like glossy screens but I do know that there is more to professional design work than pantone books and color chips. I work purely in interactive and if all my users have a glossy screen, heck it couldn't hurt for me to have one too to see things how they do.

Daring Fireball confirms the leaked MacBook Pro photos from earlier this evening and adds some intriguing details about the new notebook.

Specifically, Gruber confirms that the new MacBook Pros will have "buttonless" trackpad which is made of glass. However, it appears the entire trackpad is one large button:In addition, he confirms what some have suspected -- that the new MacBook Pro is not available in matte-finish, only glossy. There will be no new 17" MacBook Pro immediately available, and it's unclear when/if it will be revised. The existing 17" model will still remain on sale.

Gruber also confirms that regular MacBooks will be revised and that Engadget's footnote is wrong. The MacBook will contain the same buttonless trackpad and similar case design as the new MacBook Pros. MacBook Airs will be updated with a larger 120GB hard drive and larger 128GB SSD option.

CPU speeds are expected to remain about he same, however, the MacBooks will benefit improved graphics performance with built in NVIDIA 9400M GPUs. MacBook Pros will also contain a dedicated 9600M GT GPU, which should provide a large performance benefit as we've previously detailed.

Finally, Gruber addresses the pricing confusion from today. Apple apparently will only be offering two new MacBook configurations

- $1299: 2.0 GHz, 2 GB memory, 160 GB disk
- $1499: 2.4 GHz, 2 GB memory, 250 GB disk

The existing $1099 2.1GHz MacBook model will apparently remain to fill a $999 price slot but will not have the advantages of the new machines. Gruber was the first to accurately predict the October 14th announcement date for the new Apple notebooks.

Wow. This is GREAT to know. Thanks OP. *Goes to remove current 15" MBP w/Matte Screen from Ebay listing*

I'll be keeping my current MBP if this is the new MB update. In 2-3 years when this goes out I'll see what Apple has updated then. The only thing I like is the weight of the new MB, but I can wait until they hit the refurb store.

With these new changes I'm thinking the current value of my 15" MBP might actually increase to those who'd prefer a matte screen on the pro.

90% (or more) of the users are not PROs...so basically its a wise choice making it glossy.I like glossy too and never had problem with it..BUT im not a pro in colors pantones and stuff like that...:)

where do you get your stats?
And if your not a professional and you still don't want the gloss?

 Call me crazy, but I think $900.00 is still a bit much for a 24" display. You can get a 1080p 32" LCD TV for about that much.

Well, I'll be scratching that off my list.

Sorry but I call you "crazy". :D. But seriously it is LED so it will be expensive but will also look better. It could be 1080p because there are some 24" monitors that are just starting to come out that support full HD.

A clickable trackpad was my first thought when I saw those pics of the trackpad without a button. Sounds like it could be nice.

Hello Everyone!

I have read this site for over a year now, ever since I bought a 2.16C2D macbook.

I, like some others here, don't quite get the qualm over the glossy displays. For starters I'd like to add that there seems to be no reliable source saying that matte won't be an option this time. However, even if there are no matte options, I am guessing that for Apple to feel confident in making this move, they must have perhaps improved upon their previous glossy displays. (Not that I can see a single problem with that on my macbook - and yes I use graphics programs, engineering programs, photography programs and so on...).

I just feel that too many people, who claim to appreciate what Apple have stood for all this time, jump to negative conclusions before any facts are substantiated! So far we are only presented parts of the story and the rest have been assumed or made up by disappointed people, therefore this gives a rather negative slant on it all.

I dunno people, just cheer up...and as many others have said, if you don't like what they're doing, simply complain to them and move on to the great Dell.

edit: oh and to add - I am considering buying one of these new MBP's. I like the look of the new one I think (though waiting for high quality pics). To be honest, for the past year or so I have thought that the current MBP's have looked outdated.

 Call me crazy, but I think $900.00 is still a bit much for a 24" display. You can get a 1080p 32" LCD TV for about that much.
Well Apple's displays have always been even more overpriced than the rest (just check the price of the current CinemaDisplay 30" released in 2004... the Apple Store lists it at $1,799.00, acceptable 24" nowadays can be had for ~$300, you can find good 30" for ~$1000

Moan moan moan... no one will ever be happy... all these dudes moaning about glossy screen, simple... go buy a different brand if Apple doesn't offer the matte version. They're not going to offer the matte version if only a few want it, at the end of the day, they're a company who wants to make profit otherwise its useless.

Alternative options includes buying other branded laptops or perhaps invest in a Hackintosh if you love OSX so much...

and those moaning about chicklet keyboards... oh please, its not the end of the world...

Well I'm in the "moan, glossy screen" camp. It won't stop me from buying a new MBP but I don't believe the as-of-now rumor that the MBP will only be available in glossy.

But I could believe that the retail MBPs; i.e., the ones in stores, will only be glossy because companies abhor stocking multiple SKUs of the same high-end product. That does not preclude a CTO option though. It would be a flip from when the glossy screen first came out and it was the CTO option and matte was the standard for retail.

But seriously it is LED so it will be expensive but will also look better.

They don't look better, they just use significantly less power.

It could be 1080p because there are some 24" monitors that are just starting to come out that support full HD.

The current 23'' already has 1920 x 1200. These displays have a higher resolution than Full HD. That's why they're more expensive.

where do you get your stats?
And if your not a professional and you still don't want the gloss?

My stats are from the forums im registered and from people around me. probably you think otherwise.
If you are a pro and you still dont want the gloss then you have a problem mate..its that simple.I didnt blaim anyone for prefering matte over glossy or otherwise. Its just my opinion and when i said its a wise choice from apple i ment that if you cant offer both choices (matte, glossy) then you will offer the most selling one...

You, on the other hand, seem to be under the impression that people should just take whatever is offered and otherwise keep their mouth shut – even on a forum like this.
Not at all, just stating the facts. People should keep venting their anger. But a more productive way of protesting is to switch to another brand that already offers the things that Apple refuses to offer.

I, like some others here, don't quite get the qualm over the glossy displays.

It's not a qualm, it's a preference. Personally, aside from the glare issues, I don't like the oversaturated colors a glossy screen produces. However, most consumers do like this comicbookish look as is evident in poor calibration of most LCD/Plasma TVs. Somehow this peacock-in-heat look got mistaken for accurate color.

They have been posted previously but the discussion moves on at such a rate it is easy for them to be missed.

I'm quite excited about what may be released today. Just hoping for a little something extra.

Yeah, I spotted someone else posting the link but I think it went unnoticed.

Never before have I seen so much Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) surrounding a product launch. Can't wait for it all to be cleared up as it all sounds so scrappy at the moment!

Honestly even if one wanted to switch to Windows it's pretty tough to find a matte PC notebook these days. IF Apple goes glossy only it'll just be following the pack. But you don't find professional "glossy" monitors and that is the core of Apple's base so it would be a pretty risky decision to knock off the matte screen completely, i.e., not even offer it as a CTO option.

It could be 1080p because there are some 24" monitors that are just starting to come out that support full HD.
Is that a joke? Pretty much all 24" to 28" screens have had a resolution of 1920*1200 (== higher than full HD) for years. Hell, I even had a friend with a 1920*1200 15.4" laptop a few years back. And quality 1920*1200 24" screens start at $300-$400...

$800+ for a 24" display, it better give blowjobs at that price, because it's highway robbery.

I don't get it....

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

the 2.1 ghz existing baseline will only drop $100, and not have the features...

- $1299: 2.0 GHz, 2 GB memory, 160 GB disk <- slower processor than the existing baseline??? That gotta be a misprint...

$899 for an LED display at a notebook event???, oh that better be a dock with an additional harddrive, own speakers, an awesome display, and includes keyboard/mouse - otherwise what's the point - I would not pay $899 for a display, give me my VGA converter and I will go buy a high-def LCD TV with PC port? Or since most LCD TV's have a diplsay port, I'd go with that - after all for $899 I can get something larger than a 24'' that has a use when my computer is not on.

 - sigh...

I really hope this information is wrong and we see better than these last set of rumors...... If not, looks like my worship pastor will stick with a $500 PC laptop as that is all he can realistically afford (unless the refurbs with applecare included come in at $700 max).

Right now, I am sooo disappointed......
