I read your profile and it said you are a student. I'm a student also. Grad school. I'm not in a professional field where I would know if a matte screen is necessary and as a student you don't know either. I think those in the actual field would know and many have said they need matte. Why take offense at that?

I'd rather not just blindly follow people who have experience. It doesn't take experience to know you can probably calibrate a monitor to take in account the glossyness.

i just dont understand how we got away from the 799 laptop when a lot of the news sites (big ones) were reporting it. Its hard for me to believe all of the other rumors about prices and specs.
Because those news sites read these same forums and blogs which make up most of these rumours based on what they want Apple to make.

I will not be buying any laptop with a glossy screen. Ever.
I'll switch back to PC if I have to, I am not buying a laptop with a glossy screen.
I'll wait till the actual event to cry, but this is ludicrous. How hard can it be for Apple to include Matte as an option? I'd even drop some extra cash for it.

If I've learned anything in my life, it's to never say never. Keep that rule in mind, it's a valuable life lesson. :)

And how are you so sure Apple did it because of posts in forums like this, do you work at Apple, as I said if Apple listened to half the useless crap in this forum, they would be gone by now.

While i agree with you mostly that its not mainly little forums that apple listens to, i think they do notice when whining starts at a forum, enough of it is heard by engadget or gizmodo so they deem it "news", and eventually everyones jumpin on the bandwagon. At some point along the line companies do notice.

No, it's the 17" HiRes. And I do have a Samsung 214T (21.4" S-PVA panel). But I rarely use it because I prefer the MBP's display.

Wow, I have a 24" Dell Studio Display (yeah, not the crap consumer line) and I'm pretty sure it looks a hell of a lot better than the 15" macbook pro screen (even tho my screen is MATTE... OMG!!!!!!!)

I will take the advice from people who actually know what they are talking about because they actually do it for a living. Seems like common sense to me.

i wonder how many of these people actually need a glossy screen and are just going along with the crowd ?
nobody needs glossy. There's no such thing as "needing" glossy because glossy doesn't add any value, thinks look better but they effectively are not better.

(EDIT: ^ LMFAO, nice one!)

OK!
Potato Chips and the Coke are ready! BRING IT ON! :D

I am excited to go to the store today and get my grubby mitts all over the new offerings. I will eat a chocolate muffin beforehand and report back on my "fingerprints on the trackpad in real-life conditions" findings.

DJ's care because many use Ableton or equivalent to do live performance and they need be able to see their screen without strobes all around them reflecting on the screen !!!!!!!

Im confused. Your a photographer who shoots DJ's? I can see you caring about matte vs glossy but why the hell would a DJ care?

Im guessing, as usual, that my understanding of your statement is way off. Please correct me:)

24" 1920x1200? That would be gigantic pixels. The reason I do not use my 21.4" 1600x1200 a lot is that I prefer the high-dpi display.

That's so NOT true! It's widely accepted that glossy screens provide a much richer, saturated color. Why do you think the best LCD displays, the Samsung 950 series, are so uber-glossy?

That's awful! :D

But really, when I went to check out the Macs at Best Buy, I had just eaten geasy french fries from McDonalds and not washing my hands (it was an accident) and I still didn't leave any grease prints on a BLACK Macbook! But there were already some on there. That's kind of gross when you think about it. :(

I dont get it. Is he not supposed to like his display because you happen to like yours?

Or are we just doing shout outs here ? If so:

I have a toshiba with a 15.4" glossy. In my room, its main home (simply because I hate this thing and dont want it with me all the time), it looks pretty damn good. I take it to skool and sit in the cafe near windows that never have direct sunlight shining throw. I'm constantly losing productivity because I come to the realization I've been staring at the courtyard behind me instead of seeing whats on the screen.:p

Glossy with some sort of anti glare would be nice tho. (defeats the point?)
