wtf? Lol.. 45 degrees? THAT'S INSANE!

Haha yeah. iMac is perfectly VERTICLE he meant and 90 degree viewing angle. Unless he's retarded.

Okay, 45 minutes to go. This is killing me! I've never waited for one of these before like this and I don't know how ya'll do it. So, if I head to Best Buy after work I wonder if they'll be out to at least look at?

Notice how their stock price has steadily gone up the last 10 years? Their marketshare has continually gone up. They're doing something right.

Apple actually spends $0 on research, it is part of what makes them famous and part of what makes their products stand out. They pick an idea, whittle it down, send it to engineering, send it back for approval, and go with it. They make products that THEY (steve & co.) like, not what the general consumer likes. This has been famously stated in an interview with steve a few years back.

I'm not sure if they'll be available today in stores, maybe just shipping, or maybe we'll have to wait longer. But as soon as they are in stores, I'll definitely be checking them out at Best Buy as well.

Definetely not at Best Buy.

I kept up with the first 600 posts in this thread, but actually had to get some work done before I sit for an hour and do nothing! :) So I don't know if this has been mentioned, but...

What if instead of the MacBooks being consolidated into one line (i.e. getting rid of the 'Pro' moniker), the MacBooks are all but eliminated? What if the only MacBook left is the plastic one at $999 and the MacBook Pros now have a 13" version that starts at $1299? That could explain the price jump, the similar looks, and similar features!

From personal experience, my Best Buy won't have them until early November.. Don't know about yours, but perhaps mine is retarded.

That could also explain the rumors of the no MacBook announcement and the reason we haven't seen the MacBook yet (just the Pro).

LOL. Well, then I guess we're collectively insane at my workplace, or extremely tall, because that's how it looks on pretty much all desks around here.

I think you're confused. The iMacs sit at (about) 90 degress with the desk as the base. With laptops, the screen and the base of the laptop would slant past 90 degrees. 45 degrees would mean they were more closed. So they would be more like at 95-100 degrees, thus reflecting the light on the ceiling.

\__ <like that (05-100 degrees). Not this (45 degrees-ish) > /__

Or did I not pay attention in drafting when we went over degrees? I could be wrong.

I beg to differ... whenever you register a product it asks about your age, income, "first, second, 3rd ____ (product)" ... demographic research is part of the process of designing products.

My only wish would be for the 64 bit processor (for snow leopard).
etc

My wish is for the 64bit processor that is newer than the old one, a HD screen, a 5% SLI performance increase, and another gpu api for the spec sheet.

I have no interest in what different components I don't understand make to everyday computing tasks and I assume snow leopard will fix everything

Our Best Buy just started carrying Apple computers like within the last 2 months. I would have to drive two hours to get to the nearest Apple Store or, believe me, I would be headed there at lunch, forget about after work! I'm already taking a late lunch so I can "watch" the announcement. Only 34 minutes to go......

If you have an Apple Store near by I don't understand why you'd go to Best Buy. Apple needs a lot more stores though. There's 9 in Canada. 4 here in Toronto and only 4 out of 10 provinces and 3 territories have at least one.

It's "vertical", retard, and yes, that's what I meant, not horizontal.

As for viewing angle, it's measured from the vertical axis, not the display's angle in relation to the laptop's body, for pete's sake! At a 90 degree angle, the screen is laying flat against your desktop.

I've been working professionally (design, 3D modeling, graphics, presentations) every day with my final generation Powerbook since the month the original MacBook Pros came out (three years in January). That was after the same time on a TI Powerbook. If the "glossy only" rumor is true (constituting a major judgment error by Apple -- appealing more to movie watching over creative production), I might again have to buy a previous generation model (or dare I say a PC laptop) - that'd be pretty f*ckin stupid for Apple and pretty sad for me...

Right. But they're not spending money to do that. They're not using focus groups, they're collecting data about users that have already bought their products to correlate it to "target audience"... they don't ask those people what they should do to improve it in the future. If you don't know your audience, you can't make reasonable decisions regarding how to market to them. They do the research on who their market is, not what that market wants.

Who goes from the verticle 90 degrees and then adds as if that 90 is at 0 again? Completely vertically, it is at 90 degrees, when meeting with the desk or base of laptop. If you slant it more, it is more than 90 degrees. In between 90 and 180 (which would be if it was laid flat)
