Man, i am kinda bumbed out....I was really hoping for a glass trackpad w/ multitouch. Not saying it isnt there but by the looks of it, it is a slim possibility.:(

Viral

Apple certainly has done a pretty terrific job of viral marketing on this one. What other company could change the way a casing is built for a laptop and generate this much buzz.

I must say, they've handled it well. Everyone seems excited by the idea of a single piece of aluminum. I'm not sure what that does for me, but if the net result is the return of some manufacturing back to North America, I'm all for it.

Go :apple:!

Armed with nothing but a debit card..

Apple Store October 14th....HERE I COME!!!!

Most likely is for a 13.3 or 14 inch laptop, providing that the keyboard is approximately the same width as the Apple Wireless Keyboard at around 11 inches.

It would be idiotic to have a display port in front of the USB ports. It would make inserting and removing the USB devices a pain since the DVI cable would always be in the way. If you look at the current designs, the video port is always closer to the back than the usb/firewire ports.

My 12" powerbook has the dvi port in front of the usb's and yes, it is a pain to remove it

Wow

The refurb section of the German apple store now has a Macbook Air (SSD model) with a 600 Euro price cut...

Original price: Eur 2.379,00
Your price: Eur 1.749,00

Well, as a PC user about to make the change I am obviuosly hoping for an Oct 14th release (in UK pls). If I have to wait a little longer I will, but it is getting realhard not to go out and buy the current gen.

At the moment I am just about scrapin along with sharing my post-graduate coursework needs with my partners on one PC. But it is causing some stress ;)

In fact I just ordered Office Mac version in preparation! This leads me to another point albeit a little off topic. Can you literally use the same *.doc/xls/ppt etc from PC to Mac or do you need to run some kind of conversion?

Apple didn't viral market this  It's the same hoopla that get's generated by all of the rumor sites, every product release.

But how do you know that? He was expressing an opinion that these leaks are intentional to create buzz. Granted, I'm not sure I buy it myself, but I'm certainly not going to roll my eyes at the poor guy.

Bottom bit?

Since its obvious there is no bottom for the laptop in these images, can anyone else imagine a black plastic bottom? Similar to the back of the iMac?

Not sure I would be totally happy with that, but it would have a nice visual illusion of being even thinner than it is...

I made that statement based on an article that I read regarding apples future product configuration from one of the tech magazines in which they stated most likely apple will be dropping the firewire support all together after firewire-800.

I don't see any firewire support on AIR. I guess they didn't need it :D

I highly doubt Apple would drop support for a port which is the industry standard for video camcorders, considering they make FCP.

Then again, there might as well be some apple employees here (or on any other site with rumor coverage) stirring things up.

They are watching!

Exactly how many viral marketing campaigns have you seen revolving around a common manufacturing process? This is way overblown to begin with. Like omgz, the engine in my new car is made from CNC'd aluminum parts. Fascinating! No ones ever done that before!

Yes, you can literally run the same exact files, no conversion needed.

All I'm saying is, take a breath or two, settle down. There's room for more than one opinion.

Is it a common manufacturing process in computer making? Do we have all the details? Is it even real? Let's all just enjoy the ride and speculate 'til our ears bleed. Meanwhile, Apple gets plenty of attention. I'd argue that it's not necessarily good attention, since it raises expectations to unrealistic levels. Which is why I don't think it's viral marketing. But it's an interesting point. And I accept that there are sides to the argument that I haven't thought of yet.

Somebody who are curious about the chinese. I give it a translation:

AN Dafu transfered 3 pics to me which I would like to share with you. Is this the rumor that macbook is going to join in the alumni family?
Notice a reply from the admin:
In order to celebrate double ten (OCT 10, important in chinese political event during second war to Japan), AN Dafu is going to give out more suprise rumor

Hope, it helps.....waiting....

Hmm, 9to5mac is reporting that Ben Folds is performing live at the Apple Store in Chicago tomorrow. Could these two facts be related? Maybe Apple will buck the trend of tuesdays and just launch new macbooks with a webcast event from Apple store(s)? Would throw everyone for a loop, I think.

Thanks mate. Saves me from one worry then ;).

If I was in charge of marketing a product I would certainly rely somewhat on viral marketing. Especially if it's with dubious looking information. It keeps everyone talking about it without actually telling anybody anything!

From the pictures, it looks like we're (finally) getting a 2-buttoned trackpad. Don't know how I feel about the possible mini-DVI port. Does that mean it's being downgraded from a dual-link DVI to single-link? I wouldn't like that. But I'm patient so I'll wait until it actually comes out and see what it's like before passing judgement.

This Looks Like A Brick

People,

If you look at this image, it seems to me that the edges are tapered LESS than the current MB/MBP. Perhaps this is the brick everyone is talking about, perhaps the new formfactor will be more cubic.
