I don't want my fingerprint out there in digital form. I will not use it EVER i dont want to pay for it either I am fine with just remembering a lock screen code. There is alreadyWAY TOO MUCH of my personal information out there in the public digital world.

Provided of course they actually use it for anything so useful as payment security, as opposed to it just being a crazily complicated "unlock phone" button...
Well, I 'd rather they deal with the complications of unlocking a screen, rather than entering the same unlock code umpteen times every day.

I just don't see the attraction of payments with cell phones though. You still have to take out some item out of your pocket or bag to make the payment. Whether that is a credit card or a phone does not seem to be all that different to me. No wonder NFC did not take off.

Encrypted in the cloud...

I'm surprised they are adding more hardware upgrades, other than the slight improvements across the phone.

Wouldn't mind seeing it used for App Store logins.

Fed up of copy and pasting my 1Password generated password.

sources claim that the lower-cost iPhone will use the same 4-inch display as the iPhone 5S, but lack the fingerprint sensor and use a plastic casing.

For the first time I actually started thinking I might buy the lower-cost iPhone. Plastic case that won't shatter if I drop it, no useless fingerprint sensor and with the cost savings I can bump the ram up to 128GB??? Sorry, just got a little distracted from reality.

Anyone else hoping that these rumors of a fingerprint sensor are false and that they simply add a true LED notification light like almost every other Android phone has?

Battery life would be so much more improved by having a smaller (color) LED light up rather than the whole screen. Plus it just looks better in my opinion.

(Don't tell me about the rear LED notification. That's not what I want. I don't lay my phone face down.)

Never thought this was a great implementation on Android. Sure it's nice if you miss your screen from lighting up, but if I get a text and all I see is an LED light blinking I have to wake the screen any way. Again, it's nice and novel for missed notifications, but an LED light only tells so much.

iOS 7 with substential redesign and improvement on all lacking services like siri, maps, gamecenter, passbook, mail, improved safari and notification center at WWDC.

iPhone 5s With improved camera, fingerprint sensor Sep/Oct.

Low cost iPhone with iPhone 4S spec (except for the 4inch display) just enough to power all features on iOS 7 Sep/Oct but with new attractive design.

iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 for holyday season Nov/Dec with. Mini with retina display, better camera, fingerprint sensor, the same as the iPad wichi will adopt the mini design as well.

Thas all I can predict based on 7 years of learning Apple every move.

And dont forget the Mac Pro, the Macbook Air and the Macbook Pro which may reseve new design and hardware bump between one of the tree special event I mentioned or with one of them, probably at the end of the year.

Thats a great idea. Build in a 1password-like service into the OS, and have the fingerprint sensor unlock passwords so you never have to type in another password again.

I didn't think of this, but this actually kinda sounds like something Apple would implement.

This whole thread is just hilarious. Wait a month, wait another two years, are your lives *really* going to be "enhanced" by *another* iPhone revision? If you seek happiness, stop seeking possessions that you don't even need, and seek God :)

i think that people are not aware of the revolution a single fingerprint sensor can make. Im sure Apple can make it the way nobody can. Imagine registering in webpage with your fingerprint? Now, many webpages allow you to log in with your facebook profil but with fingerprint will be much more secure and easy. Imagine making payments and web banking with your fingerprint. All data is stored and encrypted on Apple servers Which comunicated with the webpage. No more stolen iPhone, no more *****.

At least the iPhone exists :D

I don't mind the delays. It just means that my iPhone 5 will be "current" that much longer

Fingerprint tech will be revolutionary and we will wonder how we did without it. Now, some people want to remember and type in bizarre passwords all the time and they will be able to with the cheap iPhone version, and of course the expensive one with the option disabled. And yes, release it when it is done right, not simply because it is magical or something.

I really want to put passcode lock, but hate using it. Utility wise i think Finger print will be the best thing, even better than that Siri (in its current form). Cant wait to have it.

What a gimmick. Who's going to drool over a fingerprint sensor once the novelty wears off?

Much rather un updated lock screen, meaning a proper OS update.

I don't think you understand how much trouble passwords and passcode locks cause for everyday people. Oops, forgot my Apple ID. Send an email. Oops, that's an old email. Oops, don't know my Comcast password. Oops, my 10 year-old put on a passcode lock but forgot it and now it's disabled. Even for tech-savvy people, it would be nice to not have to type the same passcode/passwords so many times every day.

It also opens up other possibilities like authorizing file transfers, mobile payments, etc. using your fingerprint. Or your phone/Siri knowing when it's you giving a command, instead of telling you that you need to unlock your phone first. More secure, faster, and unforgettable.

In any case, the fingerprint scanner and iOS UI update are not mutually exclusive. Pretty sure Jony's working on it

I hope one day, Apple will invent how to punch people on the internet in real time. that will enhance my life, for sure.

The combo of fingerprint sensor and NFC will be killer. The sensor could unlock the phone; unlock the keychain and enter passwords on web sites and the app store; can authenticate users within apps like Google Authenticator; can authenticate financial transactions that the NFC can transmit to POS terminals in retail stores. The NFC can do retail as above; can trigger comm links with devices that are stronger/faster than NFC such as Blurtooth and WiFi, making bonjour type polling even lower power than BT 4; and probably much more.

I see this in the next phone, and one other big thing - iOS 7, including a Siri API that will blow it open for apps, widgets that developers can write and that can appear on the lock screen, extensions to Bluetooth that can control much more than the current API, so things like cars, smart watches, and TVs can be much more tightly integrated; and the NFC API. No direct fingerprint API, but keychain enhancements that can call upon fingerprints to authenticate in addition to passwords. Passwords will remain a backup for authentication.

I respect that, but IMO the fingerprint is the least invasive of all. My contacts are in iCloud, my social circles are on Facebook, my credit card is on file with 50 different companies.

That my phone knows the shape of my finger whorls means nothing to me.

Exactly, this could be the start of something huge. Some people just have no imagination

I was with you buddy... but then I read 'God'.

How many fingerprints?

I'm wondering how many fingerprints will be stored on the device. I mean, what if you use a different finger (or thumb) depending on which digit is available; think holding keys while operating the phone.

I use my phone in either hand and, depending on the situation, will use any one of three or four digits.

This does have a gimmicky feel about it.

Unnamed sources at unnamed suppliers, who by the way are never told when the production will actually start.

Suppliers aren't told when production will start? Yeah, Foxconn just has thousands of workers sitting idle just in case Apple wants production to start...
