You're citing two sites that have very ****** track records, they predicted oh so many things in the past you can't even count them. In Italy they have large readership but they're mostly considered garbage blogs (in the sense that they publish EVERYTHING)

The best part of it all? Here it is: "The first report [Google translation] from Italian site iSpazio claims that it has received word from an Apple employee that Apple is preparing to launch five new MacBook Pro models"

From the post about the confession of an Apple Store Employee you published earlier today:

" Apple retail store employees know nothing about future product releases,"

How do you know the rumors come from an Apple retail employee? It just says employee. Could be the Woz shooting off his mouth again for all we know.

My Cousin is gonna be so mad !! He just bought a 13" MBP on impulse last week... had been contemplating the purchase for a while, and decided to pull the trigger.... Think long, and you think wrong I guess !! Bummer:eek:

He should have clicked on the MacRumors "Buyer's Guide" tab to see typical interval times between refreshes. They've been advising "wait" for MBP's for a while now, because they're becoming way overdue for an update.

I wanted to upgrade my laptop last fall, but have been holding out because I knew substantial changes were just months away. So please please update them already, Apple!

I've got 13 days till the return period ends on my recent purchase, so here's hoping they get updated within that time.
just take it back toward the end. Even if you end up being out of a computer for a bit, it'll be worth it in the long run.

Just be super careful and keep the machine in pristine condition.

Built to order MacBook Pros on US Apple Store now showing 3-5 days shipping time (instead of normal 1-3 days). Looks like update really could be next week!

Interestingly, only for the upper end 15s and 17s. All 13s and low end 15s still show 1-3 day shipping for BTOs.

Online store for Apple Australia shipping times has also slipped for 2-4 business days for 13" models and 3-5 days for the 17" model.

Where are the leaked images from China? The cool mockups?

Who will buy a cheap white MacBook that cracks instead of the 13" MacBook Pro?

Cheapies, I guess. When I went to drool on the MBP last time at the local retailer, this young girl bought a MacBook with her mother, even though the MBP was in the shelf above it and the girl actually tested it. If it gets updated like the MBP (even though it's possibly later), I guess it still sells.

Sorry but these statements are rubbish.

There is no merging between the MacBook to the MacBook Pro, for the reason that there wont be any merging with the MacBook to the MacBook Air, which has as likelt to happen as well according to your logic.

Explain this, because I don't see the two as being comparable. I'm also pretty sure you didn't read my argument at all. I was only talking about the 13" Pro model. Read the argument first before replying to it, otherwise you waste everyone's time and thread space.

If there is no MacBook, than "Pro" in MacBook Pro has no reason of existing; there would be only MacBook. You guys are obsessed that Pro HAS to be some kind of level of Professional standard which in fact is not, is just a name to differentiate a product line.

Again, only referring to the 13" Pro, not the others. And for the money you're paying and for the hardware inside, even using "Pro" at all, whether it means anything significant or not, is ridiculous.

The Pro line has different feature, starting with the aluminium unibody, the RAM capability up to 8GB, different connectivity(firewire), more than one CPU to choose from and different size and types of storage. JUST. DIFFERENT. FEATURES.

Aluminum, FireWire, a 2.66 GHz option, more starting RAM (They both max out at 8GB though for the white MacBook Apple only supports 4GB), SD card slot, and an IR port. Otherwise the two machines are the same under the hood, and really all of those features you could add to the "MacBook" with little effort. Again, because you clearly know how to read my argument, I'm only referring to the 13" model.

There is the MacBook as plain as possible, there is the ultraportable Air and there are the Pro.

Stop moaning about that already.

There's the ultraportable MacBook Air, the white MacBook, the 13" Pro which is essentially the white MacBook but in aluminum and with extra connections, and there's the 15"/17" Pro which really is a different beast from the inside out. I fail to see how this is not apparent. Also, I'm not moaning, I'm justifying my arguments to people who clearly CAN'T READ!

No, Apple already had the machine branded Macbook and after a while they changed to Macbook Pro to make it more clear. Why on earth would they redo their undoing?

The more important question is why did they do it in the first place? The answer made sense given their line-up at the time, but it really doesn't now. Also, Apple has been known to undo their decisions, see iOS app store, see the Intel Transition, see the use of integrated graphics. They've defied their own decisions and marketing many times over, and the fact that you don't realize that is a testament to how good they are at marketing.

This is one of the stupidest comments I have every read(one of because of course the internet is full of idiots).

I dunno man, this one may rank higher.

Labeling the High-End Macbook a 13" Macbook Pro has undoubtedly increased sales of Apples overall mobile computing division.

Cite your proof on this. Otherwise your argument has no weight.

Just because you want to feel special and not have people who only spend ~$1k having a model designated Pro is related to your personal issues alone.

Wow, where did you pull that one from? I've seen some pretty far fetched conclusion jumping going on in these forums, but this one sets a new record. I don't care about the 13" laptop segment. I'm going to be buying a 15" MacBook Pro and I could care less about what they call its underpowered smaller sibling, it just doesn't seem to make sense the way it is now. They could call it the "MacBook Awesome" or the "MacBook Extreme" or the "MacBook Express" and I seriously wouldn't care. I also don't think anyone buying it cares about the "Pro" moniker. They see Aluminum and they see shiny, and they see smaller price tag. That's why the white MacBook was the best seller before the 13" Pro was. If it isn't this machine, it'll be another one. The three letters makes little difference to consumers. I'm just saying that Apple tends to keep their marketing cleaner than that on average. I'm not taking my personal problems out on people on a forum.

People seem to forget Apple is in the money making business, why do you think the are still selling their current stock and not just releasing the refresh.

You seem to forget that Apple has a marketing department. No kidding they'll keep selling their current stock. That's not to say that they won't restructure their line to make MORE SENSE.

Sad

.
Oh dear. I wonder if they are moving the release forward due to Jobs health condition and possible imminent demise.... :(

While I see the logic in your original post, I just think it's a bit far fetched. In an Apple community that is stereotypically egotistic, it makes sense to brand the MacBook Pro "Pro". It's an attractive, if meaningless, moniker. If Apple can sell even a few more at a higher margin by calling it "Pro" with (as you point out) very similar hardware to the less expensive white model, why wouldn't they?

My neighbor's daughter asked me for advice when buying her a laptop for her freshman year of college. She wanted the Pro. When asked why, her response was "It's better". Again, asked why, and she responded "It's Pro". (I reccommended the Pro based on the fact that it's aluminum and my aluminum machines have always held up better than my plastic ones).

While the 13" Pro has similarities to the 13" MacBook, it also has similarities to the other Pros (mainly aesthetic). It's like asking why isn't the Audi A4 2.0 grouped with the Audi A5 2.0. They have similar under the hood specifications with different body characteristics. The majority of people associate better by looks than by specifications.

WOW!!! :eek::eek:

Imagine if you put your time to good use instead of writing a thesis on nonsense, for FREE.

LOLLLLZZ

Happy B-day dude...

On a separate note...I dont fully believe the correlation between shipping delay's and new product introduction; IF current stock is dwindling, then that represents a finite number of legacy models that are no longer being produced. So to me, its either available or not...unless Apple manufactures continue to make previous gen models until the day of new model availability. Does anybody have info on their supply MGMT practices? And Yes, I know im a total Nerd Loser. :p

The increase in shipping but continued availability could be due to imbalances in reserves in local areas. A longer time to ship could mean that, rather than being shipped from a local warehouse that's receiving a steady arrival of notebooks, the computer must be shipped from a more distant location with the remaining supply. This is all speculation, of course.

In the first post I put in this thread, I listed the possibility that the 13" Pro might stick around and that they'd just use the higher-end current model to replace the low-end model and just not have a higher-end model. I mean really, only half of my four possible predictions even involve the nixing of the 13" Pro and the least far fetched of those two simply involve rebranding it as the new "MacBook" as people don't care what it's called just as long as it's shiny, aluminum and does things. Only the education market cares about the white polycarbonate material. But again, I could see it happening either way. My second post was to justify the logic of "how could they possibly discontinue their most popular model?", which is usually fueled by someone who either doesn't read or doesn't know what they're talking about.
