SO even though I am not in the market for a laptop, I'm a Apple nut, so I am as interested as anyone to see what the the new MBP's will bring.

+1

Though I hope it's nothing that will make me too upset I didn't wait (when I bought this computer last year I was wondering if I should wait or not. It's not significantly faster than my previous macbook but it is a lot more capable at least and it has all the features I was jealous of when they put out the aluminum macbook that got turned into the MBP).

How difficult is it to find a MacBook Pro at a third-party store then?

Hypothetically if someone wanted to buy one and not wait that is.

I'm just going to wait for the newer models. But this is interesting.

What I'm really waiting for is an iMac refresh. As soon as that is refreshed I'm getting one.

You and me both. What do you think the likelihood of seeing them both refreshed is? They're both waiting for Sandy Bridge essentially. Apple ought to push 'em out at the same time!

There is a 14 day cool off period . take it back!!

Thanks... I'll advise my cousin.... hopefully he'll return it.... I don't think he NEEDED it that badly, he had just been thinking about buying for a few months, and I guess returning it and waiting a week or two wouldn't be the worst thing...:)

Please no Intel HD graphics in the 13". Please.

It's going to have intel HD graphics no matter what, it's part of the CPU itself. What you're hoping for is an additional discrete GPU.

Is it safe to assume the new MBPs will still have a 16:10 screen, and not 16:9?
could go either way. Their most recently updated notebook, the MacBook air, kept 16:10. However, all of their desktop displays and iMacs are 16:9.

Also I hope they keep the optical drive, how will people watch DVDs otherwise?

My guess is that they probably will, but they could always make it optional or external too. Their argument being that with streaming and iTunes, you don't need a DVD (or blu ray for that matter) drive.

Fingers crossed it's more than a spec update, the current one feels like it's been around for a lifetime now

More than a mac pro laptop lifetime. According to macrumors buyer's guide, the previous record for the oldest pro laptop lineup was 309 days--that was the lineup previous to the current one. The current lineup has set a new all-time record for being the most elderly, now at 311 days and counting.

I wonder what this update will bring. This is going to be very interesting.

13 MBP is currently being questioned for.

1. 13 MBA beats 13 MBP in resolution. 13 MBA has 1440X900 and 13 MBP has 1280X800.

2. 13 MBA and all the MBA come with SSD standard. Will MBP come with flash as standard?

3. 13 MBP has to lose core 2 DUO, but it intel GPU good enough to cover Nvidia GPU?

4. Current MBP design is old. It has been around for 2 years and half.

Apple will update this MBP to sandy bridge, but not include SSD. My guess is MBP will see major redesign (But still unibody design) this october for the holidays.

Apple has been doing this with all of their products.

In October 2007, Apple brought out the new imac with aluminum. (major redesign)
In October 2008, they update white Macbook and Macbook pro to be unibody design. (major redesign)

In October 2009, Apple updated iMac again with quad core, LED backlit display and 16:9 display ratio

In october, 2010, apple updated MBA with new design.

In october 2011....? Well, I wonder. It's time for new design for MBP that has been around for 3 years. Time to CHANGE

This update is going to be minor.

You mis-understand me, I mean the design and form could do with refreshing rather than just a spec change.

Think long, and you think wrong I guess !! Bummer:eek:

How right that is. My Applecare for my 2006 iMac ran out in October 2009 and I was torn over whether to get a new iMac but wasn't entirely happy with the glass screen and tinting issues etc and was happy with what I had so I kept it. Now my disc drive has packed in which makes it next to worthless on eBay and I really need a new machine for music production. Had I sold it in 2009 I could've got about £500 towards a new one, now I'll be lucky to even sell it.

3 years on the dot from now on, I'm frothing at the mouth waiting for Sandy Bridge MBPs. Gonna run it through my 32" LED Bravia, Apple can keep their 27" iMirror screens.

no kidding..., avg. is at 208 as well.

I haven't had a personal machine since the ti powerbooks, just piggy backing off a work machine. i'm ready to buy now though.

so I wish they would get rid of the optical bay and even though i really push my machines i just rarely use the odd and wish it was bto. i'd much rather have ssd for everyday speed. external would be fine for me but i know others use it still so i'm on the fence.

everyone suggests just get and air, and i did really consider a 13" air but just too light of a processor and note enough ports with all the virtual machines and other work I do. I also need the long battery life when on the go.

so really hoping for the high 1440 x900 screen to make it into the 13" pro with discrete graphics. basically be a 15" in a smaller package. that would be perfect for me.

I have a feeling I'll be left wanting though. I'll go 15" with an optical drive if i have to but would prefer something a bit smaller. my 15" ti book was about the same size as the current 13" pros. They really have gained a big footprint over the years and that is a shame. thinness is fine but if it's got a big footprint, thinness doesn't mean crap imo. Hopefully they will shrink the bezels around the screen.

i would love a black machine so anodized for me please, but i don't believe that will happen. :D

should be a fun announcement when it comes though.

1. Ditch the ODD and use that space for a thinner body and more battery
2. Res bump, 13 @ 1440x900, 15 @ 1920x1200, 17 @ 2460x1440 (Pipe Dream)
3. KILL THE C2D!!!! SB across the line.
4. Much Improved DISCRETE GPU (base with 335m with 1GB vRAM...like the $600 m11x)
5. Standard SS blade (just like air)...with upgrade of dual storage (blade and HDD)
6. Keep tier pricing the same, cheaper upgrade options...only make us pay the difference in HW upgrades.

The 11" MBA is really a 13" MBP shrunk to smaller size, and the 13" MBA is really a 15" MBP shrunk to smaller size. Just compare specs and prices. Comparing the 13" MBA and 13" MBP is comparing apples and oranges.

And the MBA has SSD as standard because it is shrunk and has no space for a HDD. That's why you have to go with much less hard drive capacity. 250 GB is nowhere near enough for me. So with SSD as standard I would have to pay lots of money for a very expensive SSD drive that I have to throw out because it is too small and replace with a £50 hard drive because £900 for a 500 GB SSD drive is just too much. SSD configurable, yes. SSD standard, no.

When new models came out a few months later I felt bad about having an outdated MBP. Now I just don't care anymore. My late 2008 uMBP 15 with discrete graphics still works perfectly after two years. I updated the RAM to 6GB from OWC and installed a WD 750GB 7200 RPM drive. I never had a computer that is this perfect after a couple years of hard use.

And yes, I'd love a new one.

I think the Liquidmetal rumor with a significantly thinner design is not going to happen.

I believe an Intel graphic that looked like a black MacBook was the reason this rumor gained steam. Intel leaked the last update. Intel for sure knows the processors in the new MacBook Pros but you have to believe that Apple is not going to share any other design details to any partners, especially Intel.

Are there any rumors regarding a new case design? Even if it supposedly slimmer or as significant as a material change?

You're citing two sites that have very ****** track records, they predicted oh so many things in the past you can't even count them. In Italy they have large readership but they're mostly considered garbage blogs (in the sense that they publish EVERYTHING)

The best part of it all? Here it is: "The first report [Google translation] from Italian site iSpazio claims that it has received word from an Apple employee that Apple is preparing to launch five new MacBook Pro models"

From the post about the confession of an Apple Store Employee you published earlier today:

" Apple retail store employees know nothing about future product releases, and find out about them only as they are publicly announced. Speculating about future products is severely frowned upon, particularly in the presence of customers."

The thought that a major consumer electronics company would update and refresh a product after a year; Crazy talk

yeah, because Apple is so behind on refreshing their gear and overcharging for year old hardware up until the last day before a refresh, I guess I could see why the iSheep would be tickled pink. It's like an overpriced Christmas with underpowered gear!!!! Slide down the chimney fatty Woz.. give us a reason to bloat our credit card bill!!!

"Apple employee" doesn't necessarily mean "Apple retail store employee". It could very well be a regular Apple employee, although I'm not sure whether they would have this kind of information. Slidetomac on the other side claims their source is very reliable, claiming they've got information from him before which turned out to be true.

Not every Apple employee works in the retail stores, you know.
