It'll be funny seeing all the people who say "Verizon iPhone!" if this isn't about a Verizon iPhone. It'll also be funny to see all the naysayers if the Verizon iPhone IS announced. Either way, it'll be funny to see all the disappointed/surprised people.

And, of course, if we do get an iPhone on Verizon, we'll just get "iPhone on (different phone company) next month!" rumors to replace all the Verizon iPhone rumors. And of course, if the Verizon iPhone isn't announced, we'll keep getting "Verizon iPhone next month rumors!" So either way, we'll keep getting 'iPhone on (phone company) next month!" rumors!

exactly why i have kept quiet! i dont know what to expect. Although it doesnt really concern me as i am in the UK.

the most interesting part will be if it happens, whether there is a hardware redesign, or whether it will keep the form of the iPhone 4.

Has nobody remembered that it was just Christmas. Where MANY MANY more iPhones were picked up. Is Apple really going to go back on these people and on AT&T and announce it this early in the year.

I would be fairly upset if I was AT&T and I spent millions on commercials and thousands of people all return their iPhones within the first 30 days. I still don't see this as an iPhone announcement because of this and also because it doesn't make (complete) sense.

Sure Apple is gaining millions of customers. But they are doing so on a dying technology that will be out the doors later this year and in nearly full force by 2012. Hey look that's also the year of the end of the AT&T Contract...I'm thinking this isn't iPhone on tuesday.... In the summer of 2012, prepare for the biggest iPhone ever. LTE on both networks, end of exclusivity. This won't be just Verizon and At&T that doesn't make sense either. Why would it be exclusive to TWO different companies with TWO different technologies.

Everyone demanding a Verizon iPhone on tuesday, prepare to be upset.

Also, just because Jobs is going to be there doesn't mean that a new iPhone is coming out. It could easily be a new iPad or something else..

Where are all the idiots that said the iPhone would "never" come to Verizon now. Come out, I got some crow for you. Truth is, once Jobs sniffs a dollar, he's already looking for a home for it in Apple's massive bank. He would never give up on bringing the iPhone to the largest carrier in the US. Simply dumb not to think so.

That makes zero sense. Take a business class. Or a logic class.

Apple couldnt give a rats ass about what AT&T thinks at this point. As for releasing a phone for a dying technology, remember, the first iPhone was EDGE only (another dying technology). It won't be LTE as nobody knows if verizons LTE is ready for prime time (there's no phones currently out that use it). Apple usually doesn't like experimenting with new technology that's not it's own.

The WSJ is pretty credible. They don't publish unsubstantiated rumors. Anyway, if the iPhone is sold on AT&T and Verizon, no one will really care whether Sprint, T-Mobile, or any other carrier have it. It will just solidify the AT&T and VZW as the top two. The bigger impact may be on Android, which so far has found a good home with VZW. If the latter starts shifting more attention to Apple, we might see fewer high profile Android releases through them.

Yeah, I'm more a "Let's wait & see" guy myself, too. I've made a few posts where I just try to say that with these kinds of rumors, there's no concrete evidence going either way. Just evidence that seems to lean a certain way.

I know I am happy

Being on the receiving end of a black listing or angry call from the head of Apple PR is not fun - trust me I have been there and own the t-shirt - long story involving the first Bondi Blue iMac. Sorry Gizmodo but I am sure you will get the inside story another way.

Anyway the part about this story that makes the most happy is the Apple stock price is going to go ballistic. Makes me smile.

I'm in complete agreement.

When a Verizon CDMA iPhone is announced, subscribers will have a very touch choice. Do they jump for the CDMA phone day 1 or wait until the iPhone 5 (or whatever version it will be) that supports LTE?

Since AT&T was slow to build out from EDGE to 3G, early adopters didn't feel the pain carrying around the original iPhone. Also, early adopters of the original iPhone also didn't have a full grasp of how popular it would be, how many versions would come out in the following years, etc.

If I buy a CDMA iPhone when its released, I'd bet someone a paycheck there will be an LTE version before my two year agreement is up. Sitting on CDMA when a new iPhone supporting LTE is out would be tough to swallow.

I wish everyone would stop feeding into this crap!

Now Verizon is getting free press because of this.

The iPhone is not going to be on the Verizon network this year!

If it was, Verizon would not be the one doing the press release.

I can't believe that Verizon would stoop to the same low levels as those case manufactures who leak new case designs before a new Apple product comes out, just to drive people to their sites.

If this is not an iPhone announcement (which I doubt it is), it just goes to show you how much the iPhone is hurting their business.

Wow really? Give it up already. Almost all of your Verizon iPhone naysayer buddies have given it up or have disappeared. I can't believe with everything that came out yesterday some people still think it's not happening now. Even Jav6454 hasn't shown his face since these rumors have surfaced.

Oh Jav6454, where are you? Can you hear me now?

As others have said, the WSJ has a pretty good track record for these rumors. It looks like it's finally happening, this time.

I disagree. The Wall Street Journal has a terrible track record on this.

They reported in March 2010 a Verizon iPhone was imminent.

Again in October they said it would happen by the end of the year.

They will eventually get it right, but only because they come out every six months and announce Verizon will get the iPhone within six months.

I don't work for the WSJ, but I'll make a WSJ-ish pronouncement. Verizon will get the iPhone this year. If not, I'll make the same pronouncement next year.

I've never understood the complaint about AT&T. I think a majority of people complain just to complaint. Now, I'm sure some places obviously have signal loss, but I have never had issues with AT&T and my town isn't all that big (Pensacola). granted, when iPhone 4 came out, I hung up on people because of the proximity sensor bug, but I've never once had a dropped call. I think we just hear the mainstream of people that come on hear complain because hardly anyone comes on here to tell us how amazing their day went because they didn't have a dropped call. Just my $.02.

The reason is because you don't live in San Francisco or New York City. I go there at least 2 weeks out of every month of the year. Guess what, it sucks using AT&T there.

That's why a lot of people want iPhone on VZW. Make sense?

I used to have issues in both of those cities, but I must say that AT&T has really cleaned up NYC. No issues with dropped calls on my recent trips (every weekend from late August through December) and was hitting data speeds of 2-3Mbps as tested from the Speedtest.net app. I wish I could get those speeds from my house.

I know AT&T announced 100 day plans to improve those cities and while I can only speak to NYC, I'd say they made a nice difference.

What is sad is I'll soon have faster data speeds via my iPhone than from my AT&T DSL service. While I pay for a 6Mbps connection, only see 2-3Mbps on a GOOD day.

I'll play your game. I'll just ask you one question:

Why do you care THAT much that VZW (may) get the iPhone?

And you have no reason to believe other than by anecdotal evidence from people you meet on the internet or in real life that Verizon is "flawless" in those areas? Some of which could be biased against AT&T to begin with for not launching the iPhone on their network?

You've had better luck than me. There are many times in the city that all I can get is EDGE. 4 out of every 10 calls I get are dropped.

Still, I live in Atlanta. AT&T here is incredible, but the big cities that I go to? NYC, SF, and others? It's seriously hit or miss.

I'm not saying VZW is flawless. I will say that I carry 2 phones with me. One that's on AT&T (my iPhone 4), the other on VZW (BB). On VZW in those cities, virtually no call or connection issues. iPhone 4? Always.

I do live in Atlanta, however. AT&T in Atlanta is nearly flawless (at least for me). I have almost no issues connecting to 3G at full strength, less dropped calls, etc.

What I am saying is that depending upon where you live, certain wireless carriers will perform better in one city over another.

If the iPhone had launched on Verizon with exclusivity it would have had the same congestion issues that AT&T is having. There is no way any network could have expanded fast enough to handle the demand for iPhone. People can complain about AT&T but I think they have done a damn good job considering. Now, if I had the issues that some like yourself are having, sure, I would most definitely be sick of it and complain too, but my previous statements still stand. I definitely commend AT&T.
