I've never understood the complaint about AT&T. I think a majority of people complain just to complaint. Now, I'm sure some places obviously have signal loss, but I have never had issues with AT&T and my town isn't all that big (Pensacola). Granit, when iPhone 4 came out, I hung up on people because of the proximity sensor bug, but I've never once had a dropped call. I think we just hear the mainstream of people that come on hear complain because hardly anyone comes on here to tell us how amazing their day went because they didn't have a dropped call. Just my $.02.

Dale.

I have the same good luck with AT&T and have had all the iPhones since the first one on day one. When the iPhone came out I switched from Verizon and was very happy with them at that time. When I ported over I was leery about AT&T but have to say I have never noticed a difference in service! C.S is a whole other story, Verizon C.S was absolutely SHI**Y and NASTY! AT&T C.S has been great and I have a family plan with 4 iPhone 4's as well as an iPad with their 3G 250MB plan. I've been happy with AT&T, however I know Verizon is good and I can't wait until they get the iPhone so I can watch my Apple stock go up and I also have invested in Verizon stock. I got my Apple stock a few years back and it's been great, I hope Verizon does the same.

I'm also hoping to see somewhat of a price war as I would have no problem switching to Verizon or staying with AT&T and pricing will be my only concern between the two. I live in southern Ca. just outside of L.A near the coast and both carriers work great here.

You've had better luck than me. There are many times in the city that all I can get is EDGE. 4 out of every 10 calls I get are dropped.

Still, I live in Atlanta. AT&T here is incredible, but the big cities that I go to? NYC, SF, and others? It's seriously hit or miss.

What I find is that each carrier is superior in their areas where they also provide the local access circuits. Since AT&T bought BellSouth, they now access to quick and easy cell site backhaul in the SE (i.e. Atlanta). Same in their footprint in the SW, parts of the MW, and some of the West.

In Verizon local footprint (i.e. NYC), AT&T has issues getting backhaul installed to improve their network. I'm sure it works the same way for Verizon in where AT&T provides the local access.

And you have no reason to believe other than by anecdotal evidence from people you meet on the internet or in real life that Verizon is "flawless" in those areas? Some of which could be biased against AT&T to begin with for not launching the iPhone on their network?

And it sounds like a lot of your football recruits will need good cell service in Ames, Iowa.

If the iPhone had launched on Verizon with exclusivity it would have had the same congestion issues that AT&T is having. There is no way any network could have expanded fast enough to handle the demand for iPhone. People can complain about AT&T but I think they have done a damn good job considering. Now, if I had the issues that some like yourself are having, sure, I would most definitely be sick of it and complain too, but my previous statements still stand. I definitely commend AT&T.

Maybe, maybe not. You or I (or anyone) doesn't know that at all. We are only guessing - which this premise is... a guess.

All I'm saying now is MORE options for consumers is BETTER for all of us. I simply do not understand why so many people on this forum is *so adamantly* against the idea of iPhone coming to VZW.

Makes ZERO sense to me.

Also, different carries are bigger in different places. When I lived in Virginia Beach, T-mobile was quite big there while here in Florida they are the laughing stock of service providers.

Common decency? Disgusting act? Save the melodrama for Dawson's Creek.

You have a scoop? You act on it. This is journalism. iPhone news is big news. It increased their traffic immensely and has kept them at the forefront of electronic/gadget news. Plus, everyone got to see a taste of what the iPhone was a month or 2 before launch. Sounds like a win for everybody.

The only 'disgusting act' was Apple ordering the raid on that journalist's home.

No sympathy for the guy who lost it. Shouldn't have gotten drunk and forgotten the phone at the bar. Maybe he should've left the 4 at home and brought out his 3GS instead. Now that I think about it, we never did hear about that employee. #kanyeshrug

Save the melodrama for Dawson's Creek? It's people with that kind of mentality that allow for things like this to happen, and continue to be accepted. Freedom of the press doesn't mean freedom to be a ****bag. If you were that Apple employee and this had happened to you, you'd have a MUCH different outlook than the one you have now.

And go ahead and say, "but it didn't, so it doesn't matter," because I can almost bet that you're going to. That's the problem with this "me" generation as a whole. Everyone just thinks me me me me, and could care less about the repercussions of their actions on others. It's not just a rude act of journalism, it's all part of a bigger picture.

It's not melodramatic to expect people to treat others how they want to be treated. It's not melodramatic to expect some common decency towards others. And for the record, I'm days away from 23. Thus making me a part of this "me" generation and I honestly don't care for many of the actions committed by about 80% of the people that I know in my age group, including my own friends.

someone had your stolen property, you'd do the same thing, by having the police go in there and find it.

Great point.

Price-wise it depends on multiple factors. I don't think Verizon has an unlimited data plan anymore. May be a consideration if you have AT&T and grandfathered unlimited data (with a soft cap of 5GB). Also, it's Verizon, so in regards to price, it'll be more expensive.

It won't be LTE as nobody knows if verizons LTE is ready for prime time (there's no phones currently out that use it). Apple usually doesn't like experimenting with new technology that's not it's own.

I'm in complete agreement.

When a Verizon CDMA iPhone is announced, subscribers will have a very touch choice. Do they jump for the CDMA phone day 1 or wait until the iPhone 5 (or whatever version it will be) that supports LTE?

Since AT&T was slow to build out from EDGE to 3G, early adopters didn't feel the pain carrying around the original iPhone. Also, early adopters of the original iPhone also didn't have a full grasp of how popular it would be, how many versions would come out in the following years, etc.

If I buy a CDMA iPhone when its released, I'd bet someone a paycheck there will be an LTE version before my two year agreement is up. Sitting on CDMA when a new iPhone supporting LTE is out would be tough to swallow.

I'm having the same feelings as you about the second iPhone that is released on Verizon. I really am hoping that nothing is released for around a year after I get the first Verizon iPhone, but I'm starting to feel that it's not worth worrying about. Yes, there will almost positively be a newer and better iPhone released before I'm eligible for another upgrade, but if I wait for the next iteration, the same will be true in that case as well. If you want one, you have to purchase one at some point. Better to have the phone than not to, just because of the fear of it being outdated.

1. Why the big deal and why all the secrecy?
1. It is just a phone.
3. See number 2.

The big question I have is will the iPhone Verizon gets next month just be a stopgap until June when both carriers get the next gen iPhone or the same model that AT&T will get later this year. Another possibility is different release cycles for Verizon and AT&T versions of the iPhone. However, I think that's unlikely.

ill say it again, i think that they HAVE to have to release cylces. imagine going to an apple store in june to get an iphone 4s, 5 or whatever you want to call it. if verizon customers and att customers are all there tryign to get 2 different phones the store inside and the lines and crowds would be madness, and thats an understatement. just look at the stores for a release just on att. people would be stampeded

I'm not against the idea at all. I am "against" the whole "AT&T sucks" type thing because I truely believe it would have happened to any of the service providers.

It is the classic issue with all Apple products. I was ready to jump on a new iMac, but there is always some improvement coming out 6 months down the road.

I think what makes the Verizon iPhone situation different is that it is just not the iPhone upgrades in play, but a major technology shift by Verizon.

Although I know very few people who can articulate why they need 4G/LTE now, like most technology shifts, demand will develop very quickly.

Although 4G/LTE will be an evolution for both AT&T and Verizon, even a year from now we'll be seeing speeds that are exponentially higher than those available today.

I remember with AT&T when I had the original iPhone using their EDGE network. I was sitting at 200-300Kbps while the new 3G iPhone had people hitting 1Mbps. It sucked to be me.

With Verizon's iPhone on CDMA, everyone will be in the same boat. You'll be locked into your phone and the "new" LTE iPhone will be screaming.

Maybe this is how Verizon can get the iPhone before the time when many say AT&T has exclusivity. Give Verizon a backwards technology iPhone now and AT&T gets the first crack at the 4G iphone??? Rumors, rumors, rumors...

Verizon still has a $30/month unlimited data plan for smartphones. There is no soft/hard cap.

Verizon's pricing is almost exactly the same as ATT.

Both of these facts can be checked on their webpage.

Yeah, that does make sense. It definitely would be a pretty big deal to me if that happened, and my version was left in the dust by the new model. But I still won't be able to help myself when preorder time comes around for the first Verizon iPhone. I'll definitely be getting it, and will just hope that there is not a Verizon update in the summer.

Sorry... didn't mean to imply that you were against the idea. Honestly, didn't think that of you on your post.

Anyway... you may be right. We'll never know though, because in the end it's just a guess.

You touched on one major factor for me? Yes unlimited, and I have that plan on 3 of my iPhones with the exception of my daughter, she's only 11 so I have the 200MB $15 data plan for her. She's mostly on WiFi at home and she has only gone over 200MB once when we were on trip to NYC.

So, it would take a big price difference for me to go away from my unlimited plans. And if you are correct that Verizon will be more expensive on VZ, I'm staying with what has been working great for me and my family.:apple:

I do have some question's for you or anyone that has some input, if it turns out to be true that VZ gets the iPhone?

What will the pricing be on VZ?

Will they start their tiered plans?

Will they try to price people away from AT&T?
:confused::confused::confused:

That tends to be a factor with almost all forms of technology. Everything you buy is obsolete within months.

It seems that most people are expecting an update to the iPhone if a verizon announcement is made. It seems to me like it would make a lot more sense to just change the GSM chip to a CDMA chip. Am I missing something here?

Like everyone else, I hope this is true so that everyone will finally shut up about it and we can move on....

it's a shame that it's simply not coming to all 4 major carriers, then ALL the whining would finally end.

I have been lurking on this site for years. Literally years. I haven't ever been moved to actually join the conversation until now! (I almost posted back in the death of 12" Powerbook days - but thats a different story)

I hope the rumors prove true. Not because I hate At&T, or anything like that, but because I would finally be able to get an iPhone out here in Montana. Granted, there aren't a lot of us, but there are parts of the country who have not been able to join in the iPhone craze. I don't even care if it is only a CDMA phone, it will be years before 4G/LTE is rolled out to us fully. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about living in Montana (I love it). I expect new technology to roll out to big cities first, but please, I think it is our turn.

Everybody talks about the non-stop continuing rumor of iPhone to Verizon - but out here, the rumor of when AT&T will finally be available has been going on nearly as long!

Well.. if it is the iPhone on verizon, my wife will be ecstatic. But too bad she's still have to wait before she can get it.. Red iPhone for Feb 14. Wouldn't that be great ;-)
