I am not sure why they have so little RAM but I believe the iPhone and iPod Touch have 256mb ram. I believe the iPad has 256mb physical ram and 256 mb either shared ram or virtual ram.

Multi-tasking is at a premium, hence the lack of Flash and always-on background tasks.

iPad

Too bad this aint out in Canada yet, but I've seen some unboxings and walkthroughs on youtube, and man does this thing look cool. The internet experience isn't as bad as the haters say, I could just imagine getting the 3G version of this and browsing in the park. Have fun to the people that got it, haters motivate.:D

Yahoo! Entertainment app

I was already liking my iPad when I loaded the Yahoo! Entertainment app and set it up to show me the TV broadcasts in my area, through "What's On?" An amazing app! And this is only the beginning.

Small World

I arrived at Best Buy around 8:15 this morning and was 5th in line. With a flood in Kentucky causing some brief shipping delays, I was able to buy the iPad at noon.

I played around with a floor model before. It's real nice. This is going to be fun.

Did u know the first five of u that got the size 32 missed out on the new shipment that arrived just after y'all left...

Twenty of the 64GB models arrived shortly after y'all left. The rest of us upgraded from 16 to 64

So what do u think of the iPad? Do u find the virtual keyboard comfortable to type on?

It depends. It's more comfortable than iPhone and less comfortable than real keyboard :D

Just fantastic!

Well I am on my 12th HR. & I can say that i really love this device... I have 4 Macs and I have not touched them since my first sync...it is a great interface and typing is a charm...
I had a couple of app crashes, but considering how long the device has been out it is nothing out of expectation..
Very much worth the money, and I will likely get another one when the 3G one comes out..(maybe then the kids will finally get to play with this one:)

Aftere using iPad for most of the day, I can honestly say that it is the best product apple has ever made. I don't even miss my 27" iMac (at least for 90% of what I do). I still do a decent amount of video encoding and such, but for the everyday activites the ipad is king.

Very happy.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

All the people who don't get it are retarded. Simple. It does certain things better because something without a keyboard inherrantly will not be better for typing or running Photoshop. Other slates and netbooks don't get this and their whole system is an apology for it. "But my PowerPoints... My Photoshop... My multitasking". Listen, retard: accept that you'll need something else for those things. There are a few things that a slate has the potential of being the best at (reading, video, casual games, apps) so this is what Apple made. If you don't get it yet, you are stupid.

Is it me or does this thing make the internet seem beautiful again? Lol. And this autocorrect is fabulous.

I went to the Apple store to play with one, but there was still a line outside at 8 pm, so we went over to Best Buy instead. No line & no wait to use the iPad. I have to say, I was wrong about the device. That thing is GORGEOUS, easy to handle, and fast as hell. I enjoyed every minute of it, but I wish that Best Buy had downloaded iPad versions of certain apps instead of loading the iPhone versions. I tried to explain to my wife how much better the iPad versions of several apps were, but it fell on deaf ears (she thinks the device is neat, but pointless). I still have no plans to buy one of these now (Apple has seen enough of my money for one year, and I still want an iPhone this summer), but I will definitely consider getting one of these in a year or so.

One question - how the hell do you move app icons around on this thing? I tried the iPhone's "hold, wait for the squiggle, move" method and never got it to work.

Got one...

I don't have a iPhone or touch, so some of this might be familiar...

> Its fast
> Screen looks good
> Everybody in the family likes it.. Not just dad...
> Wireless is good, but not amazing
> Browsing apps, you can only do one at a time, and can't go back to where you were were in the store. That's a hassle.
> Wireless dropped once, and though still showing connected, didn't work until I dropped my connection and re-added it.
> On screen keyboard much better than I thought... decided I don't need to use my bluetooth keyboard with it.
> Odd interface when you add apps. Can't seem to drag an app to the first page unless I put it on the dock first. Minor annoyance.
> Downloaded a number of apps.. Most still need some work to fully utilize the standard Apple interface bits.
> Many apps don't allow jumping to a point - have to slide a slider kind of inconvenient. Not sure if that's an app or Apple thing (I have dev. tools, so will check).

I'm very impressed by the Ipad, I've played with mine on and off all day, loading apps, music, comics, books etc, probably spent more thime loading than playing, we went over a friends and the true test was after dinner Isat on his coach, hooked easily to his wifi. We easily slipped between watching a 3 stooges short, playing air hockey, browsing photo's and the web, all effortlessly over drinks, meanwhile his wife had to lug out the netbook, the power supply etc.

My general other impression the Apple case is ok, it fits the unit really snuggly, maybe too much so, its not something I want to be doing alot taking it in and out. But I bought the dock and I don't seeing it getting alot of use while its in this case. So I might have to explore other case options but its protecting it for now.

It's the same method, so keep trying.

Yes, I'm writing this on my new iPad and it's amazing.

To the kid who wondered if this was a suitable laptop replacement for college...

Maybe. It's going to depend a lot on your major, and whether or not you have a dedicated desktop you can leave in your dorm. I've been using my bluetooth keyboard with it all day and typing in pages is a breeze... a little more involved when it comes to changing fonts than on a macbook/imac/or pc but doable, and how often do you change fonts in your notes anyway?

The onscreen keyboard is usable, but I found the pairing to the bluetooth made life even simpler, the dedicated keyboard dock will be nice as presently my ipad is being held up on a plate holder while I work.

I was surprised to find it would not charge when plugged into my Sony Vaio desktop (before you flame me, I need bluray support for what I do so chill, I like my macs too). I've adjusted the settings on the USB controller, no luck, so that sort of sucks as I don't have a spare outlet on the surge protector at my desk... have to rearrange. Would have been nice if it would just slow charge on the lower voltage USB, or even if they had advertised a little better that it wouldn't charge off some computers rather than leaving it for me to discover and suddenly panic that my unit was defective or something.

I can't see this being a computer replacement, even in the long run, even with OS 4.0 and the potential for gestures and multitasking... there are still some things that will just continue to be easier on a desktop/laptop. However, for casual use, note taking, and simple document creation... this thing is definitely capable of meeting the needs for a lot of people. I imagine we'll see an update by Christmas with the number of Android and Windows machines scheduled to debut with cameras, but I think the bar has been set pretty high for performance with the iPad, so it'll be great to see what the competition tries to do to compete.

One last thing, in regards to the questions about moving between apps without any multitasking in the sense of multiple open windows. Working in pages I was able to easily create a document, home button to safari, copy web content, return to pages (automatically puts you back where you were) and paste without feeling bothered by the experience. It certainly isn't as easy or as quick as from one window to another open side by side on a desktop, but absolutely manageable, and very likely to improve with the next update of the OS.

It does collect fingerprints like a champ, but the screen is bright enough it doesn't bother you until you turn it off and realize it looks all smudgy. I worked it pretty hard all afternoon, got about 6 hours of battery before the little 20% warning popped up, so I'm thinking that the 10 hour thing might be a little off, but still, 6 hours on a charge isn't bad at all!

One last thing (really) if you're looking for nice covers/cases... my fiance bought me a leather journal cover from levenger.com last year for my birthday. It turns out that it holds the ipad perfectly, and looks pretty sweet. Just as an option for people.

iPad in Singapore?

The reviews make this device sound fantastic.

As indicated here in a large number of posts the childishness of some folk is rather pathetic, this is a new device that is midway between a smartphone and a Mac. Let us please only have sensible comments taking into account what the iPad actually claims, and what it does do well and what might be improved in future revisions. I liked Walt Mossberg sensible review...

I state again that prospective buyers in some countries (like Singapore) will not be able to make the best use of this device due to the limitation of the iTunes store here which is only available for iPhone applications.Music/movies etc are not available here.

Shame, shame shame....

By the way did ifixit check if the touch capacitive surface extended into the black frame like the magical mouse?
So that virtual buttons can be placed around the edges?
There was a patent for that…

Three cheers for 10+ hour battery life!!! Oi oi oi!!!
:D

The iPad is awesome - better than expected :)

The eBook reader is fast, it's very easy on the eyes (aside from potential glare...I have an anti-glare sheet in the mail, hopefully I'll get it today.)

Apps load super fast, the screen is *crystal* clear - Better even than my iPhone.

LogMeIn Ignition is a FREE update (so you don't have to pay another $30 for an iPad version), and you can set the colors to high quality with no penalty (I didn't notice ANY sort of slowdown going from the default "compressed" to "high quality".)

Some of the iPhone games still look great in 2x - Lightbike, Assassin's Creed (I was waiting to see this on the iPad - looks better than I expected), Doodle Jump...

iPad versioned games like Plants vs. Zombies HD looks amazing too.

VERY glad I bought the iPad :)

When you re-purchased Doodle Jump was it free? I own it on my iPod touch and want it on my iPad but it says it's 99 cents and (call me cheap) but I'm afraid to try! So I guess me question is if I'm signed into the same iTunes account on multiple devices can i redownload them for free? Thanks!

Typed on my iPad! I didn't expect the keyboard to be this good
