The laptop you want will be out this year. The laptop I want will be out in my dreams tonight :)

No, the laptop I want with the patent that was just published the other day and that multi-touch surface will not be out until at least 10.6. However it will probably get the MBA trackpad this time.

Time Capsule prepared for shipment

Just checked the online store order status and my Time Capsule order is now showing Prepared for Shipment, estimated shipping date 29th Feb.

You have to understand his point. The Mini is a pretty big rip off and not competitive price and hardware wise.

You are right about that. So from an economic point of view, Apple should lower the price for people who want to get in touch with OS X- first time. And if they like it they can go for an iMac ;)

I don't have time to read all 280 posts, but I just got off the phone with somebody from the apple store. I played dumb, asking if the time capsule was in stock.

They told me it'll be in on the 28th or 29th. Any idea if the rumor takes into account Time Capsule shipment? Can we still expect MBP's with this new info??

nvidia 9500

is that any good, i searched a little bit about it on the internet and it doesn't seem to be that much better then the 8600, would it be worth it to update the 8600 to that card or would it rather be smart that apple would put 256 mb in the lower 15" model ?

sry for my poor english

From what I've read they are pretty much identical. Most likely the 9500m includes a die shrink which means lower cost and less power usage.

Also the 9500m includes hardware decoding for blu-ray.

I personally think this might happen. I remember reading that there was a shortage of these new processors, so maybe Apple took the decision to delay the MBP release until the MacBook was old enough to upgrade.

At that point, Apple could then to a massive overhall on the whole laptop range, tieing in the MB and MBP to the new style of the MBA. This would provide Apple with a massive boost to sales, and attract a LOT of attention!

You could be right. A new aluminum case for the MB and a redo for the MBP, all in the Air style. Both would get touchpads and LED screens. Of course, they would get the appropriate upgraded chips and all.

This is all off-the-shelf stuff now, nothing new to invent. Maybe hard to get the quantities, though. Just about what is rumored anyway.

Some may have issues with the Air's utility, but nobody says it isn't modern and attractive. You are right; Apple can and should feed off of the buzz asap and do it in all the price ranges.

Um, Time Capsule. Due data "February".

...

It's not jazzy or sexy -- but then again anything jazzy or sexy would have premiered at Macworld.

Ummm, the Time Capsule and the MacBook Air were the only hardware announcements premiered at MacWorld.

But, agreed that it's not "sexy" to announce an "upgrade" at MacWorld that forces people to buy new Apple hardware to get a feature that they'd been told their existing kit would support. (E.g. having to buy a new 802 access point with builtin disk in order to get the backup features that had been expected with the existing 802 access point with USB disk.)

I did not describe a particular computer. In fact, you seem to have trouble understanding words like "any". Let me thus rephrase it for you. The cheapest MacBook has ALL of:

  • Core 2 Duo 2GHz
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Mini-DVI
  • Good quality headphone port
  • FireWire 400 with up to 8W bus power

Please show me a single non-Apple laptop available now that costs the same amount or less and has all these features.

I was referring to the Mac Minis thanks. They are a rip off and far behind where they should be. It is not secret that they have been very neglected by Apple.

if anything needs updating it's the macbooks, not the mbp. even though the mbp's need updating too, i just think the macbooks need it more.

they still don't have a led screen selection.
still are plastic casing.

these 2 things alone go against the general direction apple has been going with lately for their product designs. recyclable materials and aluminum styles.

their insides are pretty good, so not much updating needs done there, except for maybe a base ram bump up to 2gb.

I think the only feasible multi-touch approach to a workstation, that I could see now would be something like this

21Z0mXEddWL._AA200_.jpg

A wedge of sorts which perhaps the angle/height could adjust to the users comfort, drives and everything inside and behind.

Haha, now you are on the right track. Microsoft loves you :)

I didn't mean fiberglass. jesus. my bad. i just meant a glass-type material similar to glass that is lighter than glass.

Yes I know. But there is a reason why Apple upgraded the iPhone to glass at the last minute. It is because all your other potential transparent materials are very scratch prone.

What is stopping Apple from putting LED screens on all their laptops?

Nothing. Unless Apple for the same reason Apple made the iBook unable to span monitors (i.e. to make people buy the PowerBooks), they will all have them in the next update.

Although, come to think of it, I think there's an issue with the size of the 17", IIRC.

Oh I hope this does ring true. MacBook Pro rumors have been scarce in the last couple of weeks (since the flurry mid-Jan) but this arrival makes me think that this Tuesday is the magical date. It agrees with my gut rumblings from last week.

I've got the cash waiting, I know what to expect, and I'm ready. Not that this 12" PB 1GHz (that I'm writing on now) has any problems, but I finally want the iSight, etc - oh and that damn transparent menu bar! :D;)

Yup, and some tint or even craze very fast if exposed to UV.

its wouldn't be the "apple way"
apple has allways been for a slow aproach.

Like with the Bondi Imac, when Apple "slowly" removed legacy ports and "slowly" moved to support USB?

Or like with the PowerMac G4 "Yikes!", when Apple realized that the new generation "Sawtooth" PowerMacs with the new graphics interface didn't in fact have any available graphics cards?

Or like when the PowerMac G5 went overnight from PCI-X card slots to PCI-Express slots - even though none of the third party pro cards were available in PCIe?

Sorry, but "go slow on hardware changes" is *not* the "Apple way", not even close.

I think both the MB and MBP both are in serious need of some overhaul. However since the MB still sells incredibly well, I think its update will wait until later in the year, nearer the beginning of the US school year.

As far as casing and stylistic approaches, my thoughts for a long time have been that the MacBook will mimic the iMac (perhaps with a colorized option to follow the iPod palette, which funnily enough is a palette apple has used before, sage, ruby, lavender)... MacBook Pro will be black aluminum. My guesses, can only hope the later is correct because I'm waiting to buy a new MBP.

Haha, now you are on the right track. Microsoft loves you :)

Hey hey hey, not talking Surface ridiculousness here but more so like a drafting table, a natural and ergonomic conventional approach that has been used for decades, centuries probably.

No one needs a multi-touch coffee table.

Reading all this stuff about touch screens on laptop has gotten me imagining a Nintendo DS-like MacBook with no keyboard or trackpad at all.
Instead a second identical screen which is a multi-touch interface ala iPhone is in it's place.

Keyboard displays when you need it, off when you don't, etc.

Could even have Optimus Keyboard-like changing keys.

That'd be pretty cool.
