Does anyone know how updates affect education discounts/promotions? In the T&Cs of the 'free iPod for students' promo it says nothing about new products, just that it needs to be purchased before May. what about the pricing?

I'm hoping that the MBP gets revised, and because of this revision the macbook gets some new features too - as thats what I'm more likely to buy (on size).

Just would rather the LCD/backlit keys/multi-touch pad as mentioned above - thats pretty much what I'm waiting for. 2.2Ghz is quick enough at the moment, altho a speed bump would be nice.

Hmmm is the 'free iPod for students' promotional still going on? I'm a student and I will be buying my NEW MBP tomorrow (I say this confidently), and I'd take a free iPod if I could get it.

strachanjm: yeah it's going till may, like I said. You can probably find the details, but the ed discount plus the iPod makes it cheaper than the 10% most places will spring to.

Only way I'd sell my MBP I purchased in September is if the new one has 200 GB+ hard drive, better video card, and a higher res screen standard. Anything less wouldnt be worth the effort/ money right now IMO. How much would I get for an almost 6 month 2.2ghz MBP with installed Leopard (Tiger installtion included) 160 gbs and 2 gbs (keeping my 4 gbs:p) anyway?

it wouldn't be much of an update if anything less than that was included

EDIT: I'm talking about the Aus. store

Did'ya see the last one? (November or whenever it was)

I don't think a model number denotes anything nearly enough, since Apple changes them at will.

However the MacBookPro4,1 system identifier in 10.5.2 seems to be the biggest indicator of the next release coming.

every tuesday

I've been looking for a definitive list of all the releases on tuesdays this year, and i can't find one. i'm looking at apple's press releases to try to list the release for every tuesday, but don;t see anything for a couple. am i missing something or is the "release every tuesday in 2008" just urban legend?

1/1 - ?
1/8 - new mac pro/xserve
1/15 - macbook air/time machine/apple tv take 2
1/22 - pink nano (woohoo!)
1/29 - ?
2/5- new iphone/ipod touch
2/12- aperture 2
2/19- new ipod shuffle
2/26- ???? tomorrow ????

Did anyone see on 9to5mac that Apple may update the iMacs along side the MacBook Pros? I don't think that Apple would update these machines at the same time myself, but who knows.

I don't believe the MacBook nonsense - it just doesn't make sense. MacBook Pros are much more in need of updating (and are more profitable for Apple) than the MacBooks. Not only this, but any update in hardware such as multi-touch pad (which surely must be coming) realistically has to happen to the MBP first. That's always been the case in the past (except for the introduction of the Combo drive, which the iBook got before the TiBook, but I think that was due to size constraints IIRC).

Not only that, but there is nowhere for the MacBook to go without moving up to the same specs as the MacBook Pro. Add to that the fact that there is some obvious upgrade path for the latter to take (i.e. Penryn processors).

Unless: consider this... both MacBooks and MacBook Pros are updated tomorrow!! It has happened on many occasions in the past, and would make sense if they were adding multi-touch and new keyboards going forward.

Whatever happens, I just know that I'll be clicking the refresh button a hell of a lot tomorrow afternoon at work... Apple Store usually goes down around lunchtime in UK time and can pop up anytime, but I'm hoping for one of those last-minute internet page 'leaks' with a titbit of something.. anything...

Sheesh, this is reminiscent of the old G5 PowerBook Tuesdays.... :D

last update? Yeah.
I just mean there isn't many things they could do to the laptop that wouldn't include those things at the moment without making every seriously mad and losing stock values IMO

is this promotion only on the aus store?

What is taking Apple so long to integrate Blu-Ray across it's line?! For a company with computers focused on media, this is unacceptable in my book -- at least make it a BTO option!!!

It's because Toshiba just last week annouced that they would be withdrawing from HD-DVD production

Even though Blu-Ray seemed to be in the lead there was still the uncertainty and it wasn't until January when Warner Bros decided to stop producing HD-DVD did it even become clear that Blu-Ray would be the next standard - can you imagine how stupid Apple would have looked if they had put Blu-Ray into computers and then the HD war went in favor of HD-DVD?

I'm still finding amusement in all of the Xbox HD-DVD players that are now obsolete...

yeah it is I guess!

It's a back-to-school promo that Apple usually holds mid year in the US I believe.

For me, I get 6% off with education discount, and a free iPod. Which makes it all up with external 4gb ram and selling the iPod, around $1700 aud, not a bad deal at all. I'm just holding off for a minor update, as rumored in this thread, but I figured it's worth waiting to see if I can do without it for now.

The free iPod promotion for the US is not until sometime in the summer. It's a back to school type deal.

The way I see it, if there is a major revision to MBP, Apple would rather do it later than tomorrow. MBP needs updating on multiple fronts, processor, multitouch, keypad, video chip set, bigger HDD, etc etc.. and if these are to be done for the next update, they would rather call a press meet and update MBP along with the release of iPhone/iPod Touch SDK, instead of a calm web/store update.

MB and iMac on the other hand would get minor upgrades (AL MB(?), bigger RAM/HDD for iMac), which could possibly be done as part of these ongoing tuesday updates.

Page 2 Update: More evidence from a Canadian reseller (prices in Candian dollars). Mid range MB403LL/A is described as MacBook (MACB) and sells for Candaian $1349.99, $100 cheaper than the current midrange MacBook.

About when does the Online Store go down ??

I am in San Diego, CA (Pacific time).
I was wondering what's the usual time that the online store goes down. I am aware that it's brought down in the US first. I might be up waiting to see if it's the new MBP. So would be good to know if there is a definitive time frame (like between 2 AM and 4 AM) when this has happened historically.
