Please can someone tell me what happened to Final Cut Server and the IOHD??? :(

FCS is MiA but at a guess it may reappear at around NAB 08 althogh Apple are no longer exhibiting. IOHD is on sale from AJA as its not an Apple product remember.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

I am in the market for a MBP. Fortunately I can wait. Not in a rush. However the child within me hopes for this Tuesday.

No matter what anyone is saying in these forums, Apple will have a touchscreen laptop soon. They will figure out a way.

yeh, a glass screen isnt a problem, just wipe them away... i found it very very annoying when people touched my softscreen

i think this would look cool, for the pro.

they should make the outside of the screen look like imacs front two tone (white, balck) the keyboard shell make that all black, make the keys them self white, with backlit. and the back all black with an illuninous apple logo.

and maybe where the usb eithernet cables r make that all white.
does anyone agree.

That's too much colour for Apple. They tend to keep their products simple. However, I do agree with you that a MBP in the colour-scheme of an iMac would look interesting- similar to the image which was posted before. Except for the hideous MBA Keyboard-style...

All that sounds very likely and exciting, and I agree with it; I'm just saying that we should also have the option to touch the actual screen if we wanted to.

That is fine, but that option would cost a LOT of money and would not have all the tactile touch feedback that is in their patent for the touch surface.

omfg thank god. Im putting all my money on a mbp release and if it doesnt happen i will be crushed. but wait...maybe its the time capsul

Exactly. Thank you! A MULTI-TOUCH MACBOOK PRO WITH A MULTI-TOUCHABLE GLASS SCREEN. Easy to wipe off fingerprints.

Because they've got both feet firmly suck about 5 year behind. Case in point - combo drive on cheap MB and MM. Only once they've stopped shafting customers with that old p.o.s. can they move on and give their pro line ( supposedly the best platform for content creativity ) the optical drive it deserves.

Doug

Right... if Apple is putting a combo drive in their cheapest notebook, they're shafting customers with some old p.o.s., but if other vendors are selling notebooks in the same price range that have any or all of:

  • Pentium or Celeron processor
  • only 100mbps Ethernet
  • no digital video port
  • a crappy headphone port (e.g. hissing or twittering)
  • no IEEE 1394 aka FireWire at all, and even if, one without power pins

then it's business as usual. Not to mention the operating system. Even the Windows acolytes among my coworkers constantly complain about Vista, if they are using it at all.

The way you give your iPhone a quick wipe down, you'd do that to your laptop.
Big deal. What Apple should really invent is a screen that defrosts or defogs :)
This way we can touch all we want!!

:)

Touching your little phone and your entire computer screen is different. I don't care about my phone. My computer screen is my canvas of creation, it is like touching a painting, NO.

Ok, maybe...but if Apple came out with one, wouldn't you like the option to touch your (glass) screen on your laptop if you so desired??

hmm

it would make sense, maybe we'll see the infamous 3g iPhone and the sdk along with the new mpb. An led screen would be nice.

You can't seriously compare touching a painting and touching a glass screen.
You can wipe away the small fingerprints on a glass screen in a sec to look new again. On a painting? Yikes!

Because about 4 years ago I sold my soul to apple. Oh, and because its not a laptop, so I don't mind touching its screen. Can you imagine how obnoxious it would be to be typing on the keyboard and then have to reach up and point at the screen and then rest your hands back on the keyboard. Nope. Not for me. But sure, compare it to an iPhone all you want.

No kidding. It is totally different and not ideal, which is why Apple is NOT going to do it that way lol. You will have your Newton ok.

if your screen has a really solid coating, what is the problem with touching it?
i find it very useful when i am showing someone something, prodding the screen (iMac, glass) then when i am finished, i just wipe it off!

i suppose the only advantage an iPhone has is it kinda cleans its self when it is in the pocket!

That tactile laptop keyboard is far better, faster, and more accurate than a crappy onscreen touch keyboard.
But whatever, the MBA/MB/iMac keyboard WILL come to the MBP.

I'm calling it right here right now, some idiot will ignore this fact and when it happens they're going to be all surprised saying "OMG WHAT NO WAY I HATE U APPLE :mad::mad::mad::mad:"

hopefuly Time Capsule AND MBP

alot of people in the market for a time capsule will own a notebook, so it seems sensible to release them togther.

spent $2000, whats another $300 etc.

Then do you think the touchscreen will be in the iMac first? The iMac Touch. I like the sound of that.

I think the endless number of posts this guy has made regarding wanting to touch his screen has somehow gone even beyond whatever annoyance all of the MBP refresh threads have provided.

We get it, you want to touch your screen.

Exactly!!!!!! You tell 'em all buddy :)

I agree! Time Capsule is aimed at notebook customers, but then again, if apple is to keep up their 'every tuesday of 2008' pattern, they can't release more than one thing at once!

(yay! 500 posts!! MacRumors 6502 here i come!!)

I love that everyone keep suggesting that it is just the time capsule even though arn already said it was clearly not that.

I'm pro MB style keyboard, mag-latch

That is freakin' pretty! but I'd want the normal speakers on the side of the keyboard.

Hah. Arn hasn't stated why he thinks/knows that, so why believe him?

I mean it's thick and old. Apple can definitely thin the thing out by now and make it lighter and it's time that they did. It's a great machine, but it's way overdue for a serious revision. And, Apple must be able to execute this by now.
...

Gotta love posts like this. I'm not sure why you think Apple can make the MBP any smaller than it is now, especially considering the heat issues that still exist in the current form factor.

They have access to the exact same technology as they have for the last year or two. HDD's have not gotten any smaller (unless you count the SLOW 1.8 drives), DVD drives have not gotten any smaller, the SR logic board isn't getting any smaller. Same size GPU, same size RAM, etc.

The *only* place to shrink the current MBP is possibly in the screen. The LED screens are slimmer than the older ones, slightly, with the MBA screen being a prime example. If the case gets revised, it will happen at or after Montevina's release, as that offers a potentially smaller package, and I suspect you won't see a whole new design even then.
